Cleaning/Maintenance on my Harman Absolute 63 Pellet Stove

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Thought I'd do a quick video showing the basic cleaning and maintenance on my pellet stove. I'm fairly new to stoves and when I was researching it.. the maintenance seemed a little intimidating. But once I got the hang of it.. its relatively simple. I hope this helps anyone who is new to stoves and doing their research.

Thank you for this. I just got an Absolute 43 stove yesterday and I'll probably clean it before the system prompts you.

I find myself doing a quick cleaning daily or every other day. Just scraping the burn pot.. wiping the glass.. etc. About every 7-10 days.. I give it a more thorough cleaning and empty the ash pan. Good luck with your Absolute 43. We love our stove.

Hi Joe! Thanks for a great video. I bought a Comfortbilt hp22 two mths ago and once firing it up, I also was cleaning it out daily, even brushing out the piping, even tho I read these don't need cleaning for 1-2 wks depending on pellets used and the piping cleaned out once every season. I think it's the new-user mindset that motivates us, haha. I also heat my entire house with mine, keeping it on lowest setting and just run it. My stove is in the finished basement and I have 3 floors, the second floor reaches 70-74 degrees! As for cleaning tho, I've relaxed a bit now and I'm allowing myself to just enjoy the heat and the knowledge of how safe these stoves are. As a nice followup to your pellet stove journey, maybe you can do a video on the pellets you use and how they performed? I'm researching differnt pellet brands and these types of videos are very helpful😁👍. Merry Christmas and enjoy your warm winter!

The most important part of the cleaning is done behind the ash pan. There is a blower down there and I have found from my 20 years of using Hartman stoves. What I do down there is to while the fan is running, blow air there with the cap of your stove pipe removed. I keep my shot vac running and inside the stove while I do all cleaning. (It will keep the dust and ash from going into the house)You will see so much ash come out the vent pipe when you blow into it and the stove will burn much cleaner. You don’t need to clean out your stove daily. I have had this exact same stove for 5 years and you are not really helping yourself. The stove will tell you when to do things. I pull the ash off the holes daily but that’s all I do inside the stove on a daily basis.

Your Harmon has an exhaust fan behind the ash pan. You can slide a little door out of the way to get better access. I usually vacuum the fan and brush it with a paint brush at the same time. It builds up with ash.

Yes. I discovered this a few weeks ago and I've since cleaned it several times. Thx for the tip.

This is a good video explaining on how to clean your Harman pellet stove. I just recently purchased a PelPro stove, and am waiting for it to be delivered. I intend to swap out an older wood stove for it. I had been looking into pellet stove maintenance requirements before purchasing. It looks like yours might actually be easier to clean than mine will be. Which might be one of the other perks to buying a Harman stove. Harman's seem to be an overall better quality stove than the PelPros, from what I've seen. I watched the This Old House video about pellet stove installation, and I saw your comment about asking them to perform the installation. From watching your first pellet stove video, I assume they didn't help out. Too bad, that would've been great! Originally, I subscribed to your channel after seeing you comment in a video on the Timothy P. Livingston channel. You mentioned that you had purchased one of the cabin houses that Tim showed. It just so happens that it was one of the ones that I might be interested in buying (maybe in a few years). I liked that you had videos detailing the land preparation, delivery, customization, and the house itself. So, I had to subscribe to your channel. I have been enjoying all of the different types of videos that you produce, too. You seem naturally good on camera and voiceover. Please keep producing them! Happy Holidays to you and yours! Thank you, and stay warm!

Thx for watching and Happy Holidays to you. :) Best of luck with your Pelpro stove. We ended up using a local installer that was recommended to us by the Harman dealer. The Harman is super easy to maintain and its been amazing so far. We haven't even turned our heat on. The stove keeps the entire 2400sf house warm.. even when the temps dropped down to the low 20s. I suspect we'll get thru the entire winter with the stove as our only heat source. And I'm estimating we'll save 50% on our heating expense this season. Totally worth it. :)

I know absolutely nothing about those stoves but have been considering one. I'm sure cleaning is very important and my ADD would force me to clean it every day anyway lol.

Nice stuff joe, I feel like we are twins with our hvac’s haha. I have an allure50 that we just got this fall. As far as cleaning the hopper we only do it when prompted, due to their design it will push out the ashes automatically. As for the ash pan it should fill up when you’ve burned close to a ton. How do you burn yours?

Hi. Thx for watching. I think your Allure model and my Absolute model work similarly. I could probably just wait till my stove prompts me to clean it.. but I guess I'm just overly attentive to cleaning it. It literally only takes me a few minutes each day and I'm comfortable doing it that way. But I have gone several days without cleaning.. and it's never been an issue. I'm currently burning about a bag of pellets daily.. and I haven't had to turn on the heat to my Ecoer HVAC yet. I suspect I'll get thru the entire winter with only the stove heating the house.

@@randomstuffwithjoe very nice!, what temp do you set it at and forget it? Also fixed blower or auto?

@@doom4uall I tend to play with the temps more than necessary. I think the sweet spot is around 74 degrees tho. The stove is located in a large "great room" with very high vaulted ceilings. 74 seems to be a good temp to keep this room comfortable.. and the rest of the house stays 2-3 degrees cooler. If its a really cold day.. I'll sometimes put it on constant burn at around 2.0 setting.

@@randomstuffwithjoe very good, I’m scared to run it on constant burn under a level of 4 because of creosote build-up at the upper most sections of the chimney. (16ft rise) When it’s time to clean your flue, let us know your finding and document how you were burning it, and what type of pellets. The way I’m using my harman is since we let the temps drop to 65f at night, the pellet stove is scheduled to run at 6am to 8am and get the house back to about 68F so the Ecoer doesn’t have to run for 2 hours straight getting back to that 68f constant temp we want to maintain while we are working. When the afternoon rolls in around 5pm it’s back on to 73f until bed time around 9. On weekends we use the pellet stove the most since we are home. Keep in mind our house is 92 yrs old, as well insulated as it can be for its age.
