  • @HeatherBray

Great video. I thought I’d throw in some more info as I work in contamination control in the life sciences industry. Please note, Disinfectants are not efficacious against spore formers; for example, c. Diff. The two types of disinfectants are actually phenolics and quaternary ammonium based compounds (think Lysol). Quats are actually better cleaners than phenolic based compounds. All EPA registered labeled claims are listed on the product labels on the product container. COVID-19 is an enveloped virus, like HIV, herpes etc and is actually much easier to kill on a surface than vegetative bacteria, gram negative bacterial, etc... But what you said is correct that the surface needs to be cleaned first; all residue needs to be removed first prior to a sanitizer or disinfectant being applied. This way the chemical can thoroughly penetrate the surface and do its job. Hope this helps. 😊

The past few weeks have been really hard, especially since I am already a stay at home mom and the way I normally stay sane is take my son out but that has been out of the question. So I started cleaning my house and Illuminating things every single day. Every morning with my cup of coffee I watch one of your videos to get me moving through the day and give me something to focus on. This video has been helpful and thank you so much. This isn’t an easy time for anyone but glad to see some positive in all of this. My house has never been cleaner and every day I throw something away or put it in my “donation” box. Also not sure if you have one of these groups near you, but we have a Buy Nothing group in my city and it’s nice to give something to someone who can really use it instead of throwing it out.

Thank you for this, I've seen so many people that don't seem to understand how to disinfect properly, it was great to hear someone actually explain it correctly, including the wait times needed for the products to work. You mentioned that steam cleaners kill bacteria if they get hot enough do they also kill viruses at those temperatures? I am unable to find any information online about it that I'd call reliable as they tend to be trying to sell steam cleaners. If you do a video on steam cleaning that might be some good information to include

Thank you so much for sharing this vitally important information without any of the fear-mongering tactics we see all too often right now. It's GREATLY appreciated! 💜💚 **I SERIOUSLY WISH my home could look as uncluttered and pristine as yours, but I am down-to-earth realize that's just a pipedream; what I REALLY NEED is a practical guide to minimizing the risk here of anyone getting sick that might've been preventable! So, minimizing the risk on a high-risk homestead that is VERY lived-in, feeling it, and is in a constant state of flux. It is SO DIFFICULT to try and determine a way to keep our home clean, sanitized, AND disinfected at any ONE POINT IN TIME, much less all the time, though I feel that we really need to. My home is a mix of the immunocompromised & mostly bedridden, high-risk due to underlying health issues, elderly who don't come into excessive contact with the outside world... And the youngest and healthiest of us (in the main/family house) who, ironically, travels constantly to un-/install equipment in hospitals all around the country! Added to that, we have multiple families with us (in other areas on the property) through work exchange programs who have young children and teens that often get sick and a couple of the ladies are nurses and daycare staff for disabled or very young children. There is never a calm moment, especially with the children running through the house after playing with the animals or in the dirt, and there are ALWAYS multiple projects active at any given time, added to the logistics of running and maintaining a small homestead and farm. We try to always stay somewhat prepared for natural disasters (mostly hurricanes) as we live in the middle of nowhere, but everyone who can works so much that it's very difficult to try and make them properly wash up and disinfect! Do you have some kind of checklist or schedule to help in these types of situations? During troubled times like these? This would be something I'd REALLY APPRECIATE! (Though I honestly am appreciating them all!)

People are doing the same thing that you are trying to do. It doesn't make them crazy. No matter the product it is always first come first served. If you had gotten there before all the "crazy" people you would have done the same thing. If trying to keep ones family safe from this virus seems crazy to you then you are the type of person everyone needs to worry about. Think before you speak.

@@usfmom2002 spoken like one of the crazy people who feels the need to purchase way more than they need at one time leaving others to have to go without. You sound defensive, as you should if you are one of those selfish hoarders (my guess is you are.) So caring of you with your "first come first served" mentality. I'm sure you are aware that for many elderly people (also most vulnerable), a trip to the store can be challenging so they may not be able to be the first ones there or their health does not allow them to stand in line for an hour before a store opens. Congratulations on your compassion and concern for others. You have no idea what lin would have purchased when she went to the store. You sound like you are accusing her of doing what you did to try and justify your behavior. Just because you are greedy and selfish, disguising it as protecting your family, doesn't mean everyone is. Plenty of sane and rational people are purchasing just what they need rather than joining your group of crazies.

It takes 20 to 30 secs for soap and water to wash away bacteria and viruses. It takes alcohol that is 60% or more straight from the bottle to kill germs and viruses. If you mix a 60% alcohol with water or anything else it will dilute the strength making it useless against germs and viruses. To mix well you need 90% or more for the final product to be 60% and above (this is if you're trying to make hand sanitizer). You don't need any wait time though to make sure you want to make sure you have enough on the surface you're applying it too for 10 secs to 20 secs if it dries up before that then you need to add more. This goes for hands and surfaces. Example: If you made a homemade hand sanitizer with 90% alcohol and half aloe vera gel then the final product would have 60%+ alcohol level which is best. Then to apply it, you apply enough on your hands to spread on your entire surface back and front of hands rubbing for 10 secs to best kill all germs and viruses. If the sanitizer drys up before 10 secs then you need to apply more. Hope this helps, stay safe out there.

Going thru the same thing..bought a steam cleaner and mop. Got a lime sulfer dip from vet. And purchased narural repellent herbs like mullien chamomile sage oregano neem catnip peppermint tyme etc. Can be made into a herbal powder and rubbed into cats fur to repel fleas ticks mites. Also use hydrogen peroxide and acv to clean and sanitize surfaces. They have a good disinfectant product registered with the epa that you can buy. Its a unit you plug in and it makes a disinfectant solution by electrolyzing the water with the little packs that you mix into the water. The packs contain salt vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Its 90 dollars for whole kit but lasts 6 months. Im gonna be buying one as its cheaper then all the vinegar etc i buy now
