why not just buy a modern poly fuel tank from a scrap yard with an internal pump...?

Did you consider calling a radiator shop and having them acid dip it? I heard it’s a good way to clean out old gas tanks. I’m dealing with the same issue on my 1975. It’s been sitting for 36 years, ran a boroscope into the filler neck and it looked like a shipwreck in there. Original owner drained the tank in 1986 so all that was left was this awful varnish

I did consider it. But i kind of wanted to see if i could do it my self. There was one spot about 6"×6" that ended up not sticking though. I just bought a new tank from S30 world that i will be doing a review on.

Plz do not use this gas tank rebuild. The gas tank of a 280 is presuried. But what you did was clean, then induce acid to reduce metal, then you induce plastic to shield. I would not use a product that acid etches from the inside.
