    Mate I stumbled onto your channel and glad I did, because I’m new to the hobby and I have a setup similar to yours. Can I use copper mesh instead of the stainless steel and copper saddles at both sides of the sight glass?

    Hallow m8. Just found your site, just subbed. Really interesting. I’ve had my boilers for years (Grainfather G30 & T500 boiler) for all grain brewing. But now I had in storage the AlcoEngine-reflux & pot still and was looking to try my hand. Btw both still have the SS dome. I fancy the sight glass set up, but alas I struggle with numbers, fractions etc. Due to illness. The furthest I got is the K40mm(1inch TC) is that right? Onto the clamps😂 DN40-K64mm-K64mm is that right? I give up on finding the seals let alone the sight glass.🧠🤕 Anyhoo, I enjoyed an amazing 10 years working in Norfolk (I take it your from there lol) still got family and pals there. I’ll try my best to research more on the pc, when I’m rested. Take care Bri 👍

    You dont need the screw in part for the bottom of the column as it already has a 2" flange that will just clamp onto any 2" tri.clamp fitting, adaptor or the lid fitting otherwise nice vid...

    Hi clive, could you care to surmise as to how much (weight) of copper packing media is the optimum (shaken down) in order not to have overpacked & thus causing puking problems? also, why do you mix the media bearing in mind the low cost of the copper top to bottom of a T500, any advantage to be had? I have enough copper to clean one pack one on a rotation so it theoretically slows build up on the walls of the chamber via frequent swap outs (& normal cleaning practise) all copper t500. (people mention packing it in & tamping it down but no-one seems to mention weight range margins)

  • @norfolkhillbilly

    @norfolkhillbilly

    17 күн бұрын

    Well the packs are 100g, there`s no real advantage to using full copper packing some would disagree but I`ve seen no real data to prove it, The stainless packing is designed to increase the surface area, the cost over of stainless to copper spiral prismatic packing is enough for me not to spend the money on a cost pro taste benefit, as taste is very subjective as I learnt in Beer reviewing. I never have had an issue yet, with puking. All the best

    @@norfolkhillbilly I need to worry less & brew more I reckon! ..when I have loaded the copper into my chamber it was more than a packet, maybe I spent too much time tamping & shaking the 1/2 lengths & took it to the extreme.. all this for distilled water eh!

    What is recommended for the weight on the T500 cap 1.5" colon or 2" in tri clamps configuration plz?

    Grwat stuff. Can i ask for the part fitting the extension buts to thr actual boiler itself please? Also, how fo you find the power output of the t500 boiler when extending the column like this? Thinking if fitting a bubble plate to mine just cant figure out the start and end fittings or if i need a little more power. Thank you

    The parts link is in the description you will need to order 2 x dn40 k64 and a couple of 2" Tri clamps you may need a variable power controller to limit the power to avoid the plates flooding, which will be a learning curve to find Your sweet spot to achieve good results
