HOW TO CLEAN A Briggs & Stratton Quantum Lawnmower Carburetor
In this detailed video tutorial I show you how to remove and clean a carburetor from a Briggs & Stratton Quantum lawnmower engine.
This lawnmower came in the shop with an empty fuel tank. You should always empty the old fuel when performing this procedure.

Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on KZread and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

Thanks for the great videos. Our hand me down mower always had a really rough idle, then wouldn't run unless you pressed the prime button, as you showed here. I cleaned some gelatinous substance from the bottom of the fuel bowl (otherwise the carburetor looked clean), and once I remember to prime it, it started and ran as smooth as in the video; smoother than it ever had for us.

I was just given this lawnmower as a hand-me-down and it looked to be in great condition. I went to fire it up to warm the oil to change it, and had the same problem in needing to prime the mower to keep it going. Luckily I watched this video last night for kicks and knew exactly what to do. It now works like a charm. Thanks for saving me money and allowing me to add another notch to my DIY belt!

A belated thank you for this video: was watching it as a refresher and realized this is where you mentioned using a tip cleaner for the little holes. I'm not a welder so it took me a while to find what you meant (a little $3 thing in the welding department) but now that I have one it's great. As a suggestion, I used a pair of side cutters to snip off the smooth end portion of a few of the files so they can clean shallow holes better.

Excellent video, great camera work. So much more informative and "watchable" than these weekend warrior videographers who hold the camera in one hand and work with the other! Very clear vocals and diction...I was thinking Canadian, then I saw the predominant French on the can of started fluid...that clinched it! The engine on my pressure washer had exactly this problem and I was a little leary about messing with it myself. After this video, I feel completely comfortable pulling the carb off and cleaning it. Thanks. I've subscribed!

If I loosen the fuel line After the in-line filter, the fuel miraculously appears in the inline filter again, the engine starts and runs till the next time it "runs out of fuel!. I now feel confident about taking the carburettor off. Thank You for sharing your knowledge, and the very clear and concise videos'.

Thank you sooooo much for this video! One of three total videos I found that solved my problem! I needed to mow my lawn...the repair people had a two week wait just to diagnose and they said it could be more than $200 to fix it based on what I had described (I didn't pay that much for the mower, new!) Thought I was going to have to trash the whole thing. I ordered a carburetor overhaul kit online (under $7)... which hasn't even arrived yet...and a can of carburetor cleaner, and just went in and cleaned everything out...et voila! I'm overjoyed! Got the whole yard mowed and no more gas leaking out! AND!!!! I now know I won't have to keep buying and trashing lawn mowers on a regular basis! :)))))

I just cleaned my carburetor assuming that I had a dirty needle and seat. However put it all back together still would not run. So found your video and realized that I never checked the passages in the bowl nut. When I checked I discovered the passages were completely blocked. Cleaned them out with carb cleaner and some small gauge wire. Mower now runs like new. Many thanks.

Another great video from Don. I must confess that at first I did not understand what Don meant when he said that the bowl bolt is also a jet and why he went to so much trouble to clean it. I cleaned my carb body to within in an inch of it's life and could not get the engine to run for more that a second or two. After paying real close attention to the bolt one last time it fired right up. Basically the bolt is hollow and gas gets sucked up through it. If the orifices in the bolt are clogged the engine will not run. After going through this I now understand why Don was so meticulous with the bolt! It does more than just hold the bowl on!! Thanks Again Don! You have a great channel!!

This really helped me! 2 points: 1.next time I'd never remove the needle valve seat! just block the channel to keep the carb cleaner away from the tiny rubber seat. I damaged it on removal. 2. If you do and are replacing with a new one, know that the tube is TAPERED down to the needle valve seat location, at first the replacement appeared too small, but when tamped into place it fit fine.
