HOW TO CLEAN A Briggs & Stratton Quantum Lawnmower Carburetor
In this detailed video tutorial I show you how to remove and clean a carburetor from a Briggs & Stratton Quantum lawnmower engine.
This lawnmower came in the shop with an empty fuel tank. You should always empty the old fuel when performing this procedure.

Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

check spark, compression, make sure there is fuel to the engine, I usually spray quick start immediately after a rebuild to get it going quicker

You're the best
An excellent presentation by the mechanic who loves his job to helping others to solve their mechanical lawn mover problems. Thank you.
Your channel is one of my favorite ones. I especially like the way you announce the size wrenches you use. That's very helpful. Thanks.
your instruction videos are outstanding. well done.
I've never commented, but your videos have solved problems for me in the past, and today you taught me what I need to know once again. Thanks for the most informative and easiest to understand small engine repair videos on KZread. Have a great day!

you're welcome Robert!
Hi donyboy73, i could watch you repair machines all day long, because it's art when you do it. Amazing.
Really useful and i appreciate that you showed how to remove the carb before you cleaned it. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video-you (unlike many others) showed EVERY STEP in a way that we could see all of them to understand for those of us who are not naturally mechanically inclined. Thanks so much!

Glad it was helpful!
Excellent clear camera work. Thanks.
Looks very clean, so it's strange the carb would be dirty, BUT, I did follow a video and found mine had a clogged jet, used a paper clip to unclog it and now it starts and runs fine. Thank you, KZread.
Thanks for another great video. As always, it was very helpful, clear, comprehensive, and professionally done. And thanks for making your videos "DIY-friendly". I really appreciate your focus on safety also.

Great job! Took mine apart years ago but this was a good refresher. Thanks for posting.
Used this vid, got my ranch king brush trimmer back up and going again. You’re awesome sir, thank you!!
Thx for showing in detailed, how you performed this work. Kept my full attention thru out the whole video.
That was great. I’m having the same problem. Your instructions were precise and easy to understand. Thanks!
Excellent video, this fixed my Quantum, until now it kept stopping unless I kept pumping.
Donyboy 73 you never disappoint [great video]I wish more videos on youtube were as detailed as yours [keep up the good work]

Thanks for the great videos. Our hand me down mower always had a really rough idle, then wouldn't run unless you pressed the prime button, as you showed here. I cleaned some gelatinous substance from the bottom of the fuel bowl (otherwise the carburetor looked clean), and once I remember to prime it, it started and ran as smooth as in the video; smoother than it ever had for us.
I was just given this lawnmower as a hand-me-down and it looked to be in great condition. I went to fire it up to warm the oil to change it, and had the same problem in needing to prime the mower to keep it going. Luckily I watched this video last night for kicks and knew exactly what to do. It now works like a charm. Thanks for saving me money and allowing me to add another notch to my DIY belt!
Wow!! This video tutorial was just what i needed to help me get my mower back on track! I had viewed several others. But, this one was geared for my briggs&stratton engine. So, KUDOS to Donyboy, for an excellent Mower Maintenance For Dummies video. I will check out any and all of your other offerings. WayneBo in The D
Awesome video.... thanks for the advice. My snowblower works perfect now. It was the bull nose bolt, those little holes were plugged.
Oustanding video. Very methodical and thorough. Excellent.
Another great, detailed video Don! Thanks so much! I can watch these all day!
I really admire how you fix things donyboy, you are a motor wizard.
I keep watching videos you posted weekly. They are very helpful. I learned how to maintain even fix my tool properly.
That was the best detailed video I have ever seen!! Thanks Donny great job!!
Much Appreciated. Your instructions worked perfectly on my 2 year old snowblower which would not start. Turns out the carb was was gunked up with green sticky deposits , which I'm guessing might be copper carbonate caused by crappy ethanol in my fuel. I've subscribed to your channel which are the best quality videos I was able to find. You saved my 120 dollars by not needing to take to my small motor repair shop.

Nice job, best one I've seen on here yet. Thanks for the tips and warnings about what not to do, as well. I had no idea carb cleaner was so dangerous.
YOU ARE THE BOMB! I feel like I could be a success now with my Briggs 6 HP tiller!

I have been enjoying your videos for YEARS.Thanks
A belated thank you for this video: was watching it as a refresher and realized this is where you mentioned using a tip cleaner for the little holes. I'm not a welder so it took me a while to find what you meant (a little $3 thing in the welding department) but now that I have one it's great. As a suggestion, I used a pair of side cutters to snip off the smooth end portion of a few of the files so they can clean shallow holes better.
Great job! Very detailed instructions.
Great video with clear instructions, thanks
Yet again I have to say thank you for this very well done video. You do such a good job filming, explaining etc that anyone can learn from your instructions. I'd love to work in your shop 3 months for free just to learn from you. Thanks again.
Fabulous video. I'm a rank anateur, terrified of internal combustion engines of all stripe, (scared of anything diesel too), but thanks to you I can now confidently yank the carb on my mower and do yeoman work. Thanks. You have a gift for clarity.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the explicit video on rebuilding a Briggs & Stratton carburetor. It made it easy for this dinosaur to be successful in rebuilding my carburetor without fear of screwing it up the first time correctly. 👍👍👍
Me did this the other day!! Your videos are so helpful!!!!
i been watching yours video and you are very good! well explained good voice etc. i wish you were at the corner of my street!😍
thanks dude got an old mower from the previous homeowner didnt even get halfway thru my lawn and the motor started dying on me, came back the next day and did everything you did now its purring
great. I just ordered the carb overhaul kit on Amazon for $9. Very useful video. Thanks!
Many thanks. You wouldn't believe how gunked up the carb on my pressure washer engine was....but cleaned it following your instructions and it started right up.
Excellent video, great camera work. So much more informative and "watchable" than these weekend warrior videographers who hold the camera in one hand and work with the other! Very clear vocals and diction...I was thinking Canadian, then I saw the predominant French on the can of started fluid...that clinched it! The engine on my pressure washer had exactly this problem and I was a little leary about messing with it myself. After this video, I feel completely comfortable pulling the carb off and cleaning it. Thanks. I've subscribed!

+donyboy73.... thanks for your videos Bud. I've learned quit a bit by watching them. I've done a head gasket and adjusted the valves on my Briggs 18.5hp. I've got a Walbro carburetor, Do you have a video on how to adjust the Carburetor?
Thank you for really great and clear breakdown of what to do. I will try and get mine going now.
DIYer here!! Thanks!!! Great tips!!!! I have a DR lawn tractor with a Brigs. 20 years old giving me fits not wanting to run!! Excellent camera work... outstanding step by step!!!
Happy I found a video I’ve not watched, cool thing to watch Never quit learning from others Thanks 🙏
Superb video! I have a similar mower that after 7 years will benefit from a good carb cleaning. Thanks!
I followed you video and it worked first time, Thanks bro.
GREAT, concise and clear instructions donyboy! Unlike other instructional videos on lawnmowers etc, your video quality and narration is highly professional! i'll keep 'tuned' in!! Keep up the good work!

Another outstanding video. Always informative. Keep them coming.
Thank you for your in depth video and step by step instruction.,ihave fixed a rider lawnmower and a snow thrower that was waffling by drilling the removable jet.and a carb cleaning a push mower that wouldn't start. Thank you so much!! Oh I used a o18 micro drill the smallest in the kit!
I have that exact model carb on my lawnmower. This video is a great help:)
Another great video Dony ! I always look forward to your new vids !
I am So pleased to have found this video. I have a "Greenfield" ride on mower with a 6HP Briggs and Stratton engine that will run for about 15 minutes then stalls. If I loosen the fuel line After the in-line filter, the fuel miraculously appears in the inline filter again, the engine starts and runs till the next time it "runs out of fuel!. I now feel confident about taking the carburettor off. Thank You for sharing your knowledge, and the very clear and concise videos'.
Great video - lots of good tips and detail!
Thank you sooooo much for this video! One of three total videos I found that solved my problem! I needed to mow my lawn...the repair people had a two week wait just to diagnose and they said it could be more than $200 to fix it based on what I had described (I didn't pay that much for the mower, new!) Thought I was going to have to trash the whole thing. I ordered a carburetor overhaul kit online (under $7)... which hasn't even arrived yet...and a can of carburetor cleaner, and just went in and cleaned everything out...et voila! I'm overjoyed! Got the whole yard mowed and no more gas leaking out! AND!!!! I now know I won't have to keep buying and trashing lawn mowers on a regular basis! :)))))
I just cleaned my carburetor assuming that I had a dirty needle and seat. However put it all back together still would not run. So found your video and realized that I never checked the passages in the bowl nut. When I checked I discovered the passages were completely blocked. Cleaned them out with carb cleaner and some small gauge wire. Mower now runs like new. Many thanks.
Very clearly explained. Thanks.
Professional technical video. Gained lot. Thank you
very clear explanation, Thanks a lot
That mower is beautiful !
Very well done. I’m doing the exact same thing but didn’t know about the float pin gasket. I hope my carburetor cleaner didn’t ruin it.
thanks man, greetings from Canada!
One of your very best videos. Thank you.
yes and make sure the gasket between air filter housing and carb is good

ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, CLEAR & CONCISE..WELL DONE....
Great videos! Well made and very helpful!
I've watched maybe 15 videos and not one had the same carb that was on my lawn mower or had the same problem. This one does, I already bought the rebuild kit because the gaskets were shot. I'm going to the garage to whip this beotch back in shape. Thank you donyboy73!

Thank you, I have a running lawn mower again :) Not sure what the actually problem was (everything looked clear) but after cleaning it, three pulls and it was running again!

Thank you so much. I'm having trouble with the bowl gasket leaking, but I see I may just have to fully remove the carburetor---it probably needs cleaning anyway---and hopefully will have better luck seating the gasket.
awesome work thanks for the video
Best videos on KZread Don thank you
Using an old tooth brush is a great idea, thanks for the tip.
Excellent video. Thank You
I stand with the rest of you. His are the best.
Another great video from Don. I must confess that at first I did not understand what Don meant when he said that the bowl bolt is also a jet and why he went to so much trouble to clean it. I cleaned my carb body to within in an inch of it's life and could not get the engine to run for more that a second or two. After paying real close attention to the bolt one last time it fired right up. Basically the bolt is hollow and gas gets sucked up through it. If the orifices in the bolt are clogged the engine will not run. After going through this I now understand why Don was so meticulous with the bolt! It does more than just hold the bowl on!! Thanks Again Don! You have a great channel!!

even tho i know this i still watch your videos because they are nice to watch and the video has good quality good job mate!
Another top video Donny. Thanks!
Great video, very helpful
This really helped me! 2 points: 1.next time I'd never remove the needle valve seat! just block the channel to keep the carb cleaner away from the tiny rubber seat. I damaged it on removal. 2. If you do and are replacing with a new one, know that the tube is TAPERED down to the needle valve seat location, at first the replacement appeared too small, but when tamped into place it fit fine.
Another great video Donny!!
Great job learned a lot thanks
Great one Donny .
