Also, I would just clean my oriental rugs on the driveway after vacuuming both sides. I was using diluted oxi-clean in warm water which works great. Rinsing both side top last then USE A FLOOR SQUEEGEE TO PUSH THE WATER DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. [ CLEAN IT TOO] LOL Love that you do this. Recycle, repurpose, renovate, and renew.💦💦💦💦🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Great idea using the car wash! I found a really nice print, free rug as a left over from a garage sale, BUT it smelled of urine! Took it home anyway. Laid it on my gravel front yard. Hosed it down with water and sprinkled it heavily with baking soda and left it over night. Next morning, I again hosed it down then saturated it with white vinegar and left that on all day and night. Again hosed it down. Repeated the whole process again. It worked! No more urine smell! Air dried.

I use a pump sprayer with laundry disinfectant to soak the rugs in after I've washed them; then sun dry them at home. The extra step makes me feel alright with bringing used rugs in. I normally wash rugs at home on the lawn pretty much the same way the car wash is used. Just put a tarp under the rug so dirt/grass doesn't soak into & get embedded in the rug. Use a biodegradable soap, (Dr.Bronners work well & come in different scents or Dawn dish soap, especially if there is something that needs to be degreased,) if you're washing where the soap is not going into a treatment drain. The laundry disinfectant is used as a rinse basically, so very minimal pollutants make it to the ground so it is safe to use even if there is run off.

The issue with picking up stuff off the side of the road is cleaning it doesn't get rid of all critters. Especially bed bugs. Heat is the only way, and it has to be over 140° or they'll still live. Pick up stuff at your own risk. You never know what comes home with you. And for a bed bug treatment, you're looking easily at anywhere 1500-3000. Pest control companies make alot of money from people just like this.

Nice idea but I think the owner of the wash might have something to say when they realise why their brush heads are needing to be replaced so often. Those brushes are designed to actually be quite gentle on vehicle paintwork. Maybe you could take your own brush, soap it up with the on-site brush then use your own brush to scrub out the dirt.
