Nice, I found a Feuerhand super baby 175, still with the Jena glass in tact. someone placed on the curb as trash, was rusted and cleaned up nice with steel wool and a vinegar bath. The wicking mechanism sprocket is missing, so I had to tear the whole wick mechanism apart to put a new wick, which took longer than planned, but just fired it up for the first time and works great. I love storm lanterns, found a few collectables people had sitting in their attics or basements for free,

Nice when that happens. My mate bought one , rusty as anything. Filled it up and no leaks and everything worked. Happy for her, but it annoyed me. Big time. Thanks for taking a look .

I found my old Deitz lantern on the curb too. Perfectly intact, barely used, just a touch rusty inside. Makes you wonder how many of these beauties got destroyed because no one was there to rescue them from the curbside.

Greetings from West Michigan, USA! Good job on the lantern. I've had good luck with oven cleaner, too. It will take off old paint. Pin holes are always a pain in the neck. Keep up the good videos.

Similar story, Got given an old one a month ago. Cleaned it all up, lovely patina, lit the thing, worked fine then noticed the following morning all the fuels leaked out! -which is how I came across your video… Will try the epoxy for sure.

Does make you wonder how many get thrown out or kept as ornaments for leaking a little? 😀👍

I’ve just been given a lantern and after cleaning it all up and spraying it, it’s developed a leak….. I will try and do similar to what you have done and see how it goes? Great job, mate

How long did you leave the tank sealant to cure inside before adding fuel?

I left it 24hours, and it was fine, would say thats the minimum.

Mine is leaking from the cap and I can’t find an o ring that will work, does anyone have any advice on fixing this?

You shall have to make some sort of gasket . Try cutting a circle out something like a cereal box. That sort of cardboard may do the job .

Dude that is a not so great idea. Neither Marine Weld nor superglue is rated for long term exposure to gasoline or fuel oil. There are specialty paints that are reasonably priced that are designed for this exact purpose...such as KBS Coatings 5200 Gold Standard Gas Tank Sealer.

Thanks for the information. I honestly bought it on a Thursday, done what I thought and could get hold of on Friday and made the video. Never seen oven cleaner used ,in this way before. Superglue cost £1 and the marine weld was the only product I found in an auto shop. Still going strong, though.
