I threw up from 6 weeks-till the day my daughter was born. A clean toilet never is more important to you, until your face is in it. So my husband took extra care to love me well, by cleaning the toilet regularly every 2-3 days of my pregnancy. That’s my favorite toilet love-story!

2 more tips. A plunger doesn't always work to lower the bowl water level, or worse can pull stuff back in. As an alternative, pour a bucket of water in the bowl which (counter-intuitively) lowers the water level. Also, the toilet in the video is not calked around the base. It's an easy DIY job that makes cleaning easier and prevents all sorts of nastiness from dwelling in that crevice.

I realised what was about to happen and opened my mouth to shout 'OH NO!' just before the twisty thing uncoiled at speed and sent the nasty contents of the clogged toilet spraying through the air. It splattered everywhere, including me. It's essential to my sanity that I believe I managed to close my mouth before it hit.

A tip for thorough cleansing of the toilet seat: it comes off, and many of them come apart (lid, seat, 2 hinge pieces) You can soak it in a cleaning solution since they're all the same high quality plastic - no exposed metal to corrode or if there is, it's probably brass and thus very corrosion resistant. Takes a fair bit longer, but if you have time for passive cleaning and don't want to scrub, you have that option.

@@rbeck3200tb40 Yes, that's what I'd do. You can get pretty good, heavy duty ones for less than $20 each at home depot. The porcelain itself can be cleaned up easily, unless the previous owners were really disgusting and never cleaned the thing. I'd much rather buy a new washer and dryer than a new toilet, again, unless it's stained beyond ability to clean. All of your clothes, bath and dish towels, baby stuff, etc have to go in the wash and who knows what people had or threw in there before you. Eww, cooties! Plus, in my experience, most people don't air out their machines or they forget wet stuff in there for days and the machines get mildewy and smelly, and then that nastiness will get into your stuff. You can't just close the lid on the dang thing after using it, it's wet in there, air it out for several hours first for goodness sake. And ventilate, that goes for everything in the house that gets damp, every machine and room, leave doors ajar, open windows, and use fans.

My most memorable experience - I was 18 and in Army basic training. We were in line getting our inoculations with the drill sergeant walking around boasting and laughing about how sore our arms will be afterward. She would finish up by saying that she had a cure for that - scrubbing floors! That included scrubbing toilets with a toothbrush.

I know I was in Germany about to go into Switzerland, stopped @ a McDonald's they had attendants waiting until you left to clean the toilet. However, when I stood up the toilet seat started turning and cleaning itself. I was in AWE of all the cleanliness there. Of course, they had a standing up pan waiting outside for the attendants, waiting to be tipped. Very different than here in the states!

If you have trouble with regular paper towels not holding up to cleaning then give blue shop towels a try. They are a little more expensive so try to get them when they are on sale. They are usually lintless too so make for a good towel to clean glass and mirrors. These towels are made of paper, not cloth or microfibers.

You can use products sometimes. Other times the finish is actually eaten away from the seat by the ammonia in urine or bad cleaning. You can purchase replacement seats for about $20.00 I believe. Be sure to take your current seat off and (if you dont want to take it with you) to lay parchment paper down and trace it. Also trace where it bolts on. Make sure the shape and spacing match when buying new. ;)

Cleaning the toilet is quite easy, the oven on the other hand. It doesn’t get cleane weakly, more monthly or less. Because it has to cool down then it is forgotten. It needs rougher cleaning things to get clean and then you need to be extra meticilous to make sure all chemicals etc. are completely gone. So next Time I am using the oven the food won’t be tainted. Getting some rubber gloves to specifically use for the oven helped a bit. I dream of getting something like the H20 steam mop to hopefully clean quickly and chemical-free.

soap water is actually just as effective as disinfection. that's why washing your hands with soap for half a minute is enough to kill all (not 100%, but close to) germs, bacteria, viruses. that's also why doctors and scrub nurses wash their hands and arms with soap and water for a few minutes, it does the same work as disinfectants, but it doesn't dry out one's skin too much. ☺
