    @@reddawn1873 Yeah but like the main pointers were that Clay was not a good person due to his nature and trauma, him being bisexual is something that he happened to be and im pretty sure that is such a backdrawn information that most people with normal thinking can see he would be just the same with any other sexuality. his character was not exactly built on representation, he just happened to have a different sexuality as we explore his past deeper. And also i dont know why people think making a character created for lgbt representation should be portrayed as flawless cuz if anything thats just bad writing. the community wants characters they would be able to analyze imo, characters which can share their sexuality but still be human and have a psychology behind then that contains a lot of backround nevertheless. im not saying lgbt characters should be now evil or something, im saying that there deserve to be queer characters which dont exist just for being queer and have a downsides which are obviously backed up by their environment and past, thus making it obvious it has nothing to do with them being queer. because making a 3 dimensional character is a part what makes the character good and easy to attach to and exploring their race or sexuality beyond the standard without being forceful is something what most people wish for.

    He's charismatic. If he wasn't so messed up in his childhood...and....well...adulthood....he'd probably be an alright guy. I have a friend like Clay. He married and had kids. Their family is a lot like Clay's. They weren't sure some of their kids were theirs, to the point they got a DNA test. He was messed up by his parents and his wife. He changed a lot in a short period of time. Domestic violence, suicidal tendencies, yes, alcoholism. ......sometimes I wonder if he was always like this, or if he changed. People see him act up and think he's a monster. He was like a brother to me. I saw everything he went through. Even still, I wonder. This show helps me understand. It is pretty accurate.

    He's done too many awful things to be a redeeming character, but he's definitely been portrayed as a _human_ character, rather than a one-sided antagonist. I can't help but feel a bit bad for his childhood trauma, and how Bloberta manipulated Clay into marrying her and coercing him into trying alcohol, which led to his addiction. He can also be funny and relatable at times. To me that's what makes him so scary as an antagonist. Because after you watch a movie about ghosts or monsters, at least you can go home and say, "whew, that was scary but at least I know it isn't real!", but there's people in this world who have parents who are like Clay, and anyone could potentially become like him.

    4:34 Is the most depressing out of all of them. You can see so clearly what could've been. They actually interact with each other like to humans that don't despise each other. They seemed to enjoy each other's company, even if it was for a brief moment. The thing that's so hard about bad people is how they act, but the hardest is when you see a glimpse of potential you know they won't act on. You want to be happy seeing them happy, but you can't when you know that such moments get ruined so easily.

However, the people who'd insist that you have to eat meat had a completely different outlook, instead according to them believing only humans have souls and that everything else exists only for us to use. They have no mercy and no respect, they would laugh about the suffering the animals who fed them went through. They would taunt me for caring about other creatures at all. While I don't regard eating meat as inherently wrong, it does feel very wrong for me to engage in. I haven't eaten meat since i was seven so it no longer looks like food to me. It's kind of similar to my relationship with bugs, regardless of what is "okay" for others to do regarding them, I treat them with as much respect as possible, I offer them gifts and do everything possible not to hurt them even digging ticks out of myself without hurting them. I read about how Clay isn't straight nor gay, bisexual, nor anything. He's just completely consumed with his Oedipus complex where he can only fall in love to those who remind him of his Mom, like how Stopframe puts him on a pedestal or how Censordall straight up tells him she's his mother. That's a really interesting take on Clay.

  • @SergeantExtreme

    @SergeantExtreme

    Жыл бұрын

    Because while he is bad, he's nowhere near the worst. He actually puts genuine effort into raising Orel to the best of his ability, but his strained relationship with his own father means he lacks valuable experience with what it means to be a truly good father. So he fills in the blanks as best he can. I wouldn't necessarily say that Clay is intentionally a bad father. He's genuinely _that_ incompetent at being a parent, *but genuine none-the-less.* There are even times where he both helps and cares for Orel, and he ultimately wants what's best for Orel even if his methods are misguided. No, the #1 spot belongs to Jonas Venture easily; possibly followed by Mallory Archer in the #2 spot. But I wouldn't even put Clay in the top 10.

  • @guldmattbb473

    @guldmattbb473

    @@SergeantExtreme I don’t think I can agree with this point. While I would never say I don’t think Clay loves Orel, he is an incredibly neglectful pans abusive parent. He literally shoots Orel in the leg and then blames HIM for it, and then even goes as far as to tell Orel later that he’s glad that he shot him. He also does not seem to give even an ounce of love to Shapey or Block, and didn’t even realize the two had been switched. While there are a lot of terrible parents in fiction, Clay still manages to stand out as being just an absolute monster of a patriarch. His minimal effort can seep through on occasion, sure, but it is nowhere near enough to honestly say he is not intentionally a bad parent.

    I wonder if Clay going to rehab would essentially help him get better Also oral probably should get some kind of therapy, he's very literal and impressionable he's trying to do the right thing Also question does anyone else feel like oral is autistic coded?

    Clay going to rehab would be an arc I would kill to watch, I do think it isn't entirely late for him yet but, he has crossed some pretty unforgivable lines and if he wants to be better he cannot expect to be forgiven by his son, his wife, his step-kids, or even his lover and especially not the town. I think he had so much potential as a young man to be happy and he genuinely regrets becoming a dad and marrying Bloberta, the best thing he could ever do for Orel and himself is to become a better person. And yeah I know he doesn't deserve or is meant to live in happiness and ESPECIALLY NOT REDEMPTION but it would be nice and powerful to see the "villain" of the show "defeat" himself by putting himself through the wringer and finally learning to take accountability for his own mistakes and just get help. Could be a perfect reason why Orel is still in contact with his father, despite everything he made an effort, it doesn't excuse anything but it's something. Both Clay and Arthur failed to stop the cycle of generational trauma but Orel did, while Arthur was intended to in his dying years repent, Clay was intended to be unable to do the same and remains miserable. As realistic as his intended ending is, I kinda want him to, not necessarily be happy but, not be completely miserable either, just remorseful.

    God i love this, he truly is one of the most interesting characters ive seen with his horrible addictions, terrible family trauma, self loathing, self distructive, toxic habbits, with also some very very human attributes “you become a poison that hurts people u love” thats a part of himself that wants to call for help, that wants to change for his family…but then he drinks..which as the mother said “that doesnt change him, it just shows u who they really are.” He doesnt want to be the way he is..yet he does cause hes comfortable..he silences his heart which cleary hurts him and his family. 😢
