Clavicle Fracture - Recovery and Dangerous Complications USMLE 1

This is our re-uploaded video about clavicle fractures. Here we have discussed whether there is a need for a surgical treatment of a clavicle since most clavicle fractures are treated with medication and bands. Muscles and ligaments arond the clavicle provide it with a very good stabilizing force but sometimes it is simply not enough. There are clear indications for a surgical treatment and we have discussed that here because it is often hard to identify those reasons from the patients point of view.
After our initial video about clavicle fractures included a horrible mistake we had to re-export it. Clavicle is an interesting bone and it really does look like a kaye but a person responsible for scripting wrote that the clavicle is a unique bone to humans and that no other organisms have it. I stupidly read it and only after the vide was uploaded I have discovered how stupid that was.
Some clear indications for a surgery of a clavicle fracture are an open fracture, multiple fragments and damaged nervers and arteries. Further more, shortening of the clavicle more than 2 cm is an indications to perform a surgery.

What kind of complications can I have post op? I was told to keep myself in a sling and no movement. What happens if I have any slight movement while in the sling? Am I at risk for ruining the surgery.? is it normal to still have pain similar to pre op?

My answer: In this PubMed article: "The differential diagnosis of a clavicle fracture includes acromioclavicular joint injury, rib fracture, scapular fracture, shoulder dislocation, rotator cuff injury, and sternoclavicular joint injury." emedicine.medscape.com/article/398799-overview Please also ready this: "Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Clavicle MRI of the clavicle, while not routinely performed, can be helpful in the evaluation of the osseous structures in the case of clavicular non-union. However, the prominent advantages of MRI relate to visualization of the associated soft tissues while assessing for infection, injury to the adjacent brachial plexus, vascular compression in post-traumatic-induced thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) and during evaluation of the AC and SC joints. Most recently, there has been investigation in determining patient’s bone age by using MRI to determine the presence of a fully ossified clavicular epiphyseal plate as evidence of completion of the 20th year of life [18]." musculoskeletalkey.com/imaging-of-the-clavicle/

Sorry just being sarcastic, have had to deal with clavicle issues for thirty years, breaking 3 times because of not being set and now a non union and I believe that this has caused me so many issues from me also wearing out my joint, torn labrum, back muscle pains and strains to neck, all due to orthopedics all saying don't worry it will heal!!! What a crock!!
