Absolutely ravishing. I have heard dozens of versions of this Magnificat over the past forty years. This one is marked out by its stately tempo and attention to some of the internal harmonies that sometimes get almost 'trampled over' in faster renditions. The final chorus is so overwhelming in this wonderful performance that the Chor Filharmonii Narodowej w Warsawie brought me to tears, even after having listened to it hundreds and hundreds of times. Ravishing! Thank you so much from New York.

For me,,,back then, I was so scared about ABC-5's "Please Pray The Rosary" TVC because of that background music that is TRULY very scared to me...aaarrrrggghhhh! 😔 But for now, 2024, my scare factor on ABC-5's "Please Pray The Rosary" TVC got minimized...

When listening to this music, I wish you all to open your heart so that you can accept what it is. Yes, you could put more instruments, but why not look at the beauty of each human voice in this choir? If you walk from New York to L.A., I am sure that you will meet more beautiful souls than in your plane. And indeed, some may spot a Slavic latin pronunciation, but Music and Grace belong to all and each of us. Listen to as many versions of this Magnificat that is about 450 years old and acknowledge the beauty that Humanity is capable of, because we can all love, in a different way, and there is not only one way to love.

Greatest, most sublime composer that ever lived. The depth of emotion is simply unsurpassed. "Vespers to the virgin Mary" and "the coronation of poppea" the greatest two pieces of music ever written. Beyond space and time. Beyond genius. J. S. Bach is sublime but monteverdi makes him appear very average

Monteverdi is divine, true. But Bach is also a boss. I agree tho that i like Monteverdi even more than Bach, because his music can go to the deepest truth. Monteverdi can make love, the highest idea, hearable; while Bach can do that too, Monteverdi is able to make us hear all parts of that love: Glory, sadness, its strength and weakness.

Beautiful voices, and very well sung... it's just a pity that they have chosen the Slavic Latin pronunciation instead of the Italian one. I know that it's a Polish choir, but Monteverdi was Italian and that's the pronunciation we expect to hear.

Oh fer chrissake. Okay. Um....that's all very interesting, but lets pair half of you up with instruments and start over again - see if we can't make this sound a lil' more authentic. Ya know, you could walk from New York to Los Angeles, but why would you do that? We have planes for that. Likewise, you can sing the Monteverdi Vespers with a ridiculously gigantic choir and just organ accompaniment, but why would you do that? We have small lovely Baroque ensembles specifically for this purpose.

Lari Kipe, we walk instead of flying in order to experience things along the way. We try things in music for the same reason - to experience things in a different way. As far as I know, no one is being forced to listen to this. To criticize others considerable efforts instead of just turning it off and listening to something else seems small minded and petty.

Lari Kipe, this is a "second version" of the Magnificat, with 6 voices and continuo (the "organ" part), instead of 7 voices and instruments that you find in the "original version". It was written by Monteverdi himself as an alternative for the original version, for occasions or places without the resources of St Mark's Basilica in Venice.
