Claude Monet: Master Of The Open Air

Claude Monet was one of the greatest of the Impressionists and a master of en plein air (open air) painting. For years I've been using his work to inspire my students to paint outside in nature, and I will share that teaching with you in this new series of videos.
We will look at six of Monet's best known paintings, spanning over two decades from 1869 to 1890. We will see how Monet's palette changed over this time as he developed his personal version of the Impressionist theories of color and light.
Key to this was Monet's passion for painting outdoors where he was directly observing light in nature. His amazing sensitivity to color enabled him to expand our understanding of how paint can represent light, and I will show you how he achieved this in a series of mixing and painting demonstrations.
Monet had a whole armory of techniques and ideas that enabled him to be such an adept outdoor painter, and we will look at these as we go along, including the role of the studio.
So I hope you will join me as we learn what we can steal from this Great Artist!

Hi Ian. Alistair here. Missing my Thursday morning art class with you but I've been busy painting most days, so i'm keeping my hand in. Working on my own piece at the minute but I have a big book on Monet, so I may well move on to that. I look forward to following the series. Ps, a few of us from Thursday have a Whatsapp group and encourage each other to paint. Take care and keep well.
