    I have spent a lot of time in France so mostly the only ones I didn't know how to pronounce more or less correctly were the ones that aren't French names like Deutz but there are a few I need to tweak my pronunciation such as Billecart, which I'd always pronounced with the ll like in Gremillet rather than sounding the ll. The one surprise was Taittinger, which is one of my favourite houses - for some reason I'd always pronounced this with a short rather than long initial a. This guide was very helpful. I'm fairly pedantic and I like to get these things right. I couldn't help noticing that Heidsieck was misspelt (as Heidsick) all three times but you did notice the last of the three.

    Why is the "ll" in Billecart Salmon pronounced as an "L" sound rather than the softer "I" sound? I've always said "Bi-eh-car" Salmon not "Bill-car". Is there a different rule for these double-Ls? Thanks.

  • @YouTubeJulien

    @YouTubeJulien

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi man. I'm not 100% sure of why. I think it's simply a family tradition to say it this way. In French indeed it should be bi-eh-car just like when you say 'bille' (marble) pronouncing bi-eh. But for some reason in this case you pronounce the L. It's probably a little like for Moet the way the family says it. If you listen to a family member introducing himself here, you hear he says the L too kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJ5szpKRdJOTeKQ.html it sounds like it's the way they pronounce it, so the way we should probably pronounce too.
