Segment A:
Flipped Over Math - See a flipped classroom in action at Sandshore Road Elementary School in Mount Olive. A fourth and a fifth grade teacher flip their classes by recording lectures that the students watch at home and then help the students do their homework during class.
Segment B:
Battle of the Books - Fourth through sixth graders from Thomas E. Bowe School in Glassboro read books and compete in teams to show off their comprehension skills. The battle is a reading incentive program designed to encourage students to read quality literature. The teams meet with coaches twice a month to prepare for the competition. During the battle, they are asked a series of questions to test their comprehension skills.
Segment C:
Police Canine Presentation - Special needs carpentry teacher James Wiater coordinates a police canine demonstration for his students at Middlesex County Vo-Tech School in Piscataway. The Middlesex County Sheriff’s K-9 unit demonstrates narcotic and bomb detection capabilities. After learning about a police dog that was killed in the line of duty, Wiater wrote a children’s book about a police canine and the proceeds have gone to purchase armor vests for the dogs.
Segment D:
ACES - The world’s largest exercise class originated in Montville at Valley View Elementary school. The program, called ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) was created by teacher Leonard Saunders. He has encouraged millions of children from all 50 states and over 50 countries to exercise together. The program motivates students to exercise regularly by placing a value on physical fitness.
