I'm only an amateur guitarist of 50 years who has mostly played pop / Rock, with some classical and Flamenco. I believe without question, the violin is the most difficult instrument to master and Ray Chen is an absolutely phenomenal player! On a scale of 1 to 10, he's an 11!

I think the audience did not necessarily react to the genre of music but rather the passion and musicality and skill of each performer. Ray would slay playing anything-here you see the crowd grow and be amazed. Thank you for this collaboration.

@@hexabr Nothing against Karolina, but a violinist and a professional classical violinist are not the same thing. They don't live in the same world, it's a completely different ballgame. It's like saying Lindsay Stirling is as good of a violinist as Hilary Hahn. Classical violinists, even prodigies are required and always train their arts to perfection. You cannot make even the most minute mistake when you do a classical concert. You miss a note in pop violin play, literally no one cares.

“You’re just some walk by violinist!???!”😂 When you scanned the audience his expression made me think that he knew who he was! It seemed to me that there was a larger crowd during the classical performance. Ray is just amazing. So is Karolina.

Yes, Ray immersed himself deeply in his feelings in Schindler's List. You can tell that he is used to playing such profound pieces. I came across Karolina's channel by chance and haven't been able to leave it since 🤗

Yes, you are right and music is intended for everyone. Many people would not be able to pay the price for a concert ticket. Karolina and her family give it to them for free. You are truly blessed. I feel like when you listen to Ray Chen playing classical pieces, it's nothing you haven't heard before, even though it's amazing. I was, however, very impressed by his pop song playing. It was a lot more expressive than you usually hear from a busker. Man needed to remind us that he's a world-class soloist lol

good musicians can make you enjoy their music. Great musicians just grab you no matter what they play (even if the music genre is not your cup of tea). You have such a power.

I would think that Ray knows, and would hope most of his subscribers also know that this girl is classically trained in violin and ballet and has performed classical violin in Carnegie Hall.

I personally prefer classical, but it is undeniable that she's got TONS of charisma and it's really hard not to like her. She could play like a pre-schooler and I think I still would like her, haha! I just like her energy as a person overall.

Yes but people have to get paid and Ray is a professional musician who worked very hard to achieve that level of skill. So it definitely does not need to be free. This was just publicity. But people should pay for art.

I mean, people are more tied to the pop music because they know the song. So I think it will draw people in. That being said, you and Karolina said it best. Your technique, her poise and command of the audience, bam!

He gave her a masterclass on playing the Mendelssohn violin concerto. And she gave him a masterclass on performing pop violin music outdoors and interpretive dancing! I love their collaborations!

That was fun to watch. I hope you publish the duets that you did with Karolina or give the videos to her since her sound cards were stolen. You showed a little bit of the duets but there was so much more and I think yours and Karolina's fans would love to see them.

The whole concept of Classical and Pop music coming together is just delightful. Whatever the genre music, when it is respected and played well, it is such a beautiful thing - thank you to the amazing Ray Chen and the lovely Karolina for showing us true music. That was so wonderful, only wish I could have been there! That was a very special once-in-a lifetime performance - one for the memory to play over, and over again.

I love classical music and pop music. What I love about Karolina, she has a beautiful soul and when she plays her violin with so much passion it touches you. She’s an inspiration to us you can accomplish everything in life. She’s my role model and inspiration. A true musician as Karolina has a divine spiritual power that connects to our souls through her music.

Ray is a Master. Never heard of him till Karolina found you. Karolina, you"re Awesome!

You both have such a great stage presence which (along with nice pieces/songs and the matching skills) is what prevents the people from walking by; you just have to stop! That's one of the most amazing skills to accomplish 👏

I completely agree, can't say the same for the pop however!

As a classically trained musician myself, I have more overall respect for classic. I find enjoyment in hearing pop, and can appreciate it for what it is.

I'm very excited to watch this. I've followed Karolina for 2 years now and Ray for over a year and it's very exciting to see these two collaborate. This could be a banger

I saw them perform duets together in person. Karolina's sound cards were stolen so she can't post the duets. I am hoping Ray posts them. There were 3 or 4 duets. He had a film crew there so he has it. If he doesn't post them I think it would be nice if he gave them to Karolina. We will see

Ohh yeah that was so sad. When I saw the video karolina posted about the stolen cards I was in shock. It is so unfortunate that the time it happens is when there's real sentimental value. (Fortunately, they didn't stole her violin). I am hoping to see karolina perform whenever I go to LA (quite complicated to get there from Spain), it must be awesome to see her perform (and ray too, obviously) @AttilaLothrigel

To see a master such as Ray Chen choose to invest time into visiting this young lady on her stage is both gracious and genius... I believe he recognizes she presents a passion for her music and performance that all maestros could learn from... Karolina, now 15 years old, isn't out there trying to compete... she welcomes Ray Chen to her world, now lets put some smiles on these faces... She recognizes he is one ot the top 1% violinist in the world... at the same time you can hear a confidence in her voice and performance very few at this age pocess... In my opinion she is one of the purest role models for young artist on KZread... Hard work, stands strong in her faith and the love of family...

Even if Ray and Karolina played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the crowd would be amazed because they are both exceptional violinists and entertainers. That said, I loved to see the happiness on people's faces when Ray played Vivaldi. Congratulations on a great video!

I love both because you’re both genuinely enjoying what you’re playing and it shows. People pick up on the energy. Wish we could have heard/seen more of your duets! Lots of love to a guy who can put the seriousness of the classical music hall a little bit to one side and have fun busking with his amazing talent at the Santa Monic Promenade. Ray, first I am so happy to see you and Karolina together , not only performing but to maybe be her big brother guiding her. 2nd , they come to see you and your extraordinary use of the bow no matter where you are. 3rd, you alone will help spread the love of classical music in the public street venue and with Karolina, you together are The Match of a Lifetime. Karolina is also a brilliant classic violinist. She’s very humble and a perfectionist. She also performs and plays super difficult classical pieces by heart, no wonder pop is super easy to her, like for us to breathe. She practises classical music to high level, multiple hours daily. Like for dance, if you have a classical basis, you can be excellent at other genres.

I 100% agree. Karolina Protsenko Vlog - shows her classical recitals / concerts. People only have to scroll down the page, on her vlog, to find her classical performances. She sings, plays guitar, piano and studies ballet. Add to that, fluency in Russian, English and Spanish.

Ray should do more pop covers. I loved the improv

I love seeing the kids watching Ray Chen.

I personally like Karolina’s style, but Ray Chen is appreciated for his amazing talent in a different way, They are both very good in their style of playing obviously, Kudos!

We know that Karolina plays classical, and just saw Ray play pop. What I would love to see is the two of them playing a mashup of both where they switch from one to the other mid-song. Some pop songs lend themselves to a classical riff between verses and vice-versa. I'm sure an audience would love it.

That wasn't so difficult(performing a pop song), right, Mr. Ray Chen? Wonderful performances with classical pieces as well, and what separates Karolina Protsenko from everyone is her willingness to do different things @ once: pop music, classical pieces, ballet, guitar, piano, and singing, and she still finds the time to go to school daily, while maintaining a positive attitude and pleasant demeanor, which makes her 1 of the best role models in the world.☺️👏❤️

@@wheelchairgeek I certainly can't argue with that, but give Karolina Protsenko a few more years; she's doing everything she needs to do, while she's still young, to reach Mr. Ray Chen's level.

I am already amazed by how Ray memorized the partitions, let alone try to play a pop song for the first time.

As someone who isn't into violin music, I want to hear and see emotions to be transferred. That's what makes me feel emotional.

I don't think there is a better or worse one either. What you notice about both of you is the passion with which you make music. People need such places of reflection. The feedback on your performance shows that people love classic and pop when it penetrates their hearts honestly and convincingly. I'm glad to have met you too. It's nice that you and Karolina exist.
