Hua is simply amazing. In my opinion, he is the best, no one besides or above him. It is because he so extremely versatile, he can do any genre music, any style, and it always sound so damn right, and great. It is like his capability as an artist is endless, the way he changes up old established songs, and the way he seems to think a bit diffrently than others about music. His rap is not the hip hop genre rap, it is more rock rap, and it is very melodic. He sometimes use it in parts og his songs, while other times he mostly rap and sings in shorter parts.

The Western world has been amazed to find that there are such precious jewels in China, super-talented artists open to the new. Thank you for your appreciation. React as much as possible to Chenyu's music. He is the most precious and rare jewel of music. I'm a Martian!

Thank you for reacting to this, not many reactors do. This is my 2nd favorite song of his. The ending of the song starting with Hua on the piano and Su belting, and into his two long belts while Su weaves a falsetto melody through it. Absolutely stunning performance. By the way, the two long notes for Hua were 16 seconds each, with a quick breath in between. The breath control, outstanding.

Also, he is a BEAT POET for sure! I never really loved rap until now. He gives a spoken word with brilliant rhythm that works and intrigues us in a different way. By far my favorite artist/performer/composer and you can really feel his influences, like Radio Head and others. Super super!

The latest album released this year "New World" can be found on the Spotify platform, the youtube channel "Hua Chenyu English Subs" deals with the English translation of all his appearances in TV shows, concerts, music videos, commercials. Thanks for your appreciation and feedback. I became a Martian from the first audition. Together with Su Shiding he made a work of art from this song from Chinese folklore. This is such an amazing duet, Hua really shone as a musician and composer in The Next, he helped Su Shiding win the season. I never thought I would one day like rap, but Hua's rap is amazing, he says it's rock, it's layered, musical and powerful, with elevated lyrics. I also love a rearrangement Hua did on a song called Heaven, Hua rearranged it in a very challenging way and it's "heavenly". The original song is from a Mongolian singer called Tengri, his heaven is very powerful and angry, both original and rearrangement are worth a reaction, I'm adding the links in reply to this comment. PTX Dear Pears 95 Yes, I agree, it’s not hip hop, elevated lyrics, no profanities. To my surprise, I’ve immediately liked Hua’s musical rap/rock ❤️

This performance is insane! Hua’s arrangement is incredibly talented!

Hua totally rearranged that classic song. Very different from the original. Totally refreshing eh. In this performance, he is trying to showcase Su Siding and helping her to win the competition. He is very good at bringing out the best in each singer.

I don’t like rap usually either and never listen to rap, but Hua Hua uses it in a way where I can often appreciate or even like it.

They did another duet on this show called "Perhaps Love", the theme for them that day was musical theater. The 2 songs they did are from a musical movie by the same name. I think you'd enjoy that as well.

I appreciate that you find time to look up information and background. Subscribed because of that 😉. Su Shiding is also an original and unique singer in her own right. HuaHua said something like this when he first heard her: i will vote for her! once, ten times, hundred times, ill give her tenthousand votes!! Like you take on it 🙂 The 3 songs you have reacted to are all rearrangements. Maybe its time to react to an original song by him? I think you would love the beautiful Ashes from fireworks, Quasimodo’s gift, Arrival, Sacred Tree, Giant Deer, Qi Tian. Aliens, I dont care, Jackdaw boy. These are more intense rock rap. Or his most recent songs Bullfigthing, I really want to love this world, Madhouse, Conversations with children of Mars and 7 personalities. Bullfighting, the title says it all. The rest is about mental health issues. He has got a social consience! All epic and all relates to himself in one way or another.

Hua amazed me most is his way of re-arrange all of those old melodies into something so fresh, so different, yet so brilliant!! You will be amazed again and again by the songs he composed himself or he re-arranged.. haven't seen a Chinese singer and artist like Hua before :-))

Nanping evening bell is a old Chinese folk song from 1958: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmd1r8aReLO5p7w.html In this show he was acting as a mentor while the female singer, Juna Su, is a contestant. Each mentor pairs up with a contestant in this episode to do a duet performance to help the contestant win. He recomposed and rearranged the song to play to her strengths.

If you like the discant part, you got to watch the other song of him, The Idiots. It's from the second season of The Next and he sang it with another lady named Ma Lu. kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2WmsdORo8jOfLw.html Originally it's a solo song for lady and he wrote the discant part himself. That is my favorite to duet of his song. The stage presentation is brilliant as well.

First of all let me say that I love your reactions. Your are so respectful of the music and I always learn something that I did not know before. This collaboration is really interesting. In this episode Hua and Su had to choose one of their competitors songs, in this case it was an old love song by Fei Yu-qing. Hua Hua rearranged the song to suit Su Shi-ding and eventually helped her to win the championship. If you want to here a more recent duet by Hua Hua, he performs Light Years Away with GEM in Singer 2018. Also with mesmerizing harmonies.

Exactly right. Hua's rap is melodic and very rhythmic which makes it enjoyable and epic at times. He incorporates rap in many of his songs. Ti Qian from Singer 2018 also has rap and mix of genres. Looking forward to more Hua reactions.

i have stumbled over hua chenyu 2 years ago. youtube recommended the song "fake monk" to me.....and i fell in love.......the most talented musician that i have heard for a long time........at home in every style of music.........and yes.....he can hold a tone longer than most singers......i watched a chinese show where the singers competed....he won after 1 minute and for seconds.....love your reaction....i am quite introvert and appreciate if somebody goes into all the background stories.......thank you

Hi Josh, thank you for the reaction. If you really interested in the background of the story, here is what I found, hope this helps: The song was written and composed in 1951, and became a hit in 1958 sang by the HK female singer Cui Ping. It was then covered by various famous Mandarin artists. The story is about a girl had a crush on a guy who she ran into while playing in the forest. She missed the chance to strike a conversation with him due to a sudden rainfall, but his figure was deeply embedded within her thoughts. Later she would try to wait for him at the same spot hoping to meet again, but to no avail ... until the Nanping bell woke her up from her 'lovesick dream'. The story ended with her walking out of the forest and seeing the sunset. Basically it described the beautiful yet obscure secret crush of a young girl... nothing to do with the Bell itself though.

If you're looking for suggestions, Ordinary Path is more like Child, and Nunchucks is a little bit more like this one (it's kind of fun and unpredictable). Also, another artist who is brilliant who was also on the Singer is a man named Tengri (or Tenger). His masterpiece which he did on the Singer 2018 is called Heaven (the English subtitles are great); he is from Inner Mongolia, and features Mongolian throat singers in his performances. He and Dimash admire each other and they perform a song called Swan Goose (for a different event), and it's brilliant too.

HUA HUA rearranged Tenger ‘s THE HEAVEN and he did it very well , changed it to his own version. Both of them were amazing!

Fake monk is something very special

I love this duet performance of Hua Chenyu. I researched Nanping Bell, too, after listening to this performance. It has a very interesting history and I found out that the present bell is a recast, not the original.

Another one you would probably like is "Giant Deer", one of his favorites and mine. He sang this with a guy named Tian Yi for a show called Coming One.

They did another song called “ perhaps love” just like a show that Hua made two songs in one. And I really enjoy your reaction every times, you will do some research before listen. Very respectful and professional. Subscribed.

Hello Singer Dad, I just found you and you added more insight to this song which just blew me away with her powerful voice and Hua’s rap which does not sound like the rap here because the tonality of speaking Chinese is not like English. The Chinese musical scale is different than the C Major scale (my music theory is failing me) so mosh of his songs have Minor Key feel to them and there is emotion in that, the Minor keys, augmented, diminished and Minor Sevenths all have a different feel than Country Music here which seems to be the only popular music along with Rap//Hip hop. I have to check your other reactions. He had a 7 year Anniversary on 9-27 this year as he won Super Boy at 23 and he has grown in his performance, singing and he always rearranged songs which he had done from the beginning, Thank you so much for your thoughtful reaction and speaking much more low key than most of the reactors and vocal coaches, some are crazy!!! I will check your other reactions and try to send some links to songs, he has a lot. (Sorry this is so long... I grew up with all the Rock Icons and Legends and The British Invasion) If you watch enough of Hua’s videos you will see a performance artist and he took from Lori Anderson, Kate Bush, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Bono. Peter Gabriel, and then there is his CLOTHES!! What he wears to events(he is a model and Brand Ambassador it is called in China, his clothes Jon his concerts are amazing, colorful and Red for Mars, he has a logo, he works with his crew on the staging snd designs the stages. The huge hand at The Mars Birds Nest Concert in Beijing, the Arena from the 2016 Winter Olympics 90,000 people each concert! And they sing to him and he calls the Martians, ET’s , family and starts off each concert with “welcome home” He is unique and follows only his path.

But when I like a song a lot I also try to find out more about it, the person who sings it, the show, what kind of a person it is who sings and how the artist became who he/she is. Thank you for yet another Huahua reaction. In China lipsync is strictly forbidden, so performers are used to performing live under stress. Huahua's solo concerts fill Birdnest Stadium in Beijing into the rafters, so ...Also Hua has always chosen his own path and stuck to it, although many people including his teachers found him weird. That is so admirable about him. No performance is boring, so any other choice is a good one.🙃 Maybe do Heaven, his version of Tengri's song, on The Singer 2018 or do them both for comparison. By the way have you already reacted to Earth Song by Dimash together with Victor Ma? You could make your sons proud again. I wonder if you will spot something in that performance that will link it to this version of Nanping Bell. Enjoy!

You’re actually quite right, the verbs knocking (on doors or hearts), ringing (of the bells), hitting/stroking (of the piano) can be described using the same word - Qiao (reads “chiao”). So it’s quite a thoughtful composition that I haven’t noticed of before, thanks for pointing this out~
