  • @mjcole12

    @mjcole12

    @@jamesrawlins735 I'm definitely not an expert but I believe that whatever you hear is exactly what she wants you to hear. The way she breathes loudly at some points when we all know she has the breath control, the moments she chooses to use vibrato then switch to straight tone...everything she does is for effect for her performance. The way she loudly releases her breath after singing Adagio every single time is all planned. Technical or not to you, I believe she does what she thinks she needs to do to convey the story she is telling! She has total control of her instrument so therefore, technicality is a matter of perspective when it comes to Lara Fabian!

    Lara has both Canadian and Belgian citizenship, so French is natural to her. and yes, Dimash has listened to Lara from when he was very young. she saw Dimash when he first performed on Singer in China, and from what I understand got on the phone with Mr. Krutoy--or he called her. For his first birthday after that performance she made an informal video, singing happy birthday to him. I don't think it is on KZread any longer--I tried to find it again but couldn't. Je ne trouve pas non plus que Céline et Lara ont la même voix. Je préfère Lara. Je trouve sa voix plus chaude et ronde. Only discovered her last year with this jaw-dropping performance. I wholeheartedly agree with something you touched on: she is always 100% committed to the story, and never just "shows off " her (incredible) instrument. And her live performances are always electric - incredible stage presence. While she didn't write this song, she does write the majority of her material: in multiple languages. I'm simply in awe of her velvet soprano, total technical mastery, and supernatural ability to lay bare the emotion of any and every song she undertakes. Very much looking forward to more reactions.(different facets of her brilliance are revealed in very different songs. It's fascinating. For instance, it seems to me she uses a lot more straight tone in her covers of Italian songs, and it makes me curious....) Cheers!

    Josh, what a magnificent performance by Lara. This was also my introduction to her a little while ago and I think we can see what the attraction is between Lara and Dimash. Two very expressive artists with great voices. I've since watched this many times and the ending of the video is so dramatic. Lara holding that last note for approx 17 seconds, the crowd rising as one for a standing ovation, Lara's struggle to get out of the song. And, the piano player was shown almost crushing the keys at the conclusion.

    Lara’s mother is Italian, so she is fluent in that language as well as in French and Flemish which she gets from her father who is of Belgium; but she is also Fluent in English and speaks well in Spanish. She also knows many other languages to varying degrees and sings in many of them including Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, German and Dutch. She is a true artist who uses her emotion and her breathing as a weapon in her singing; a strong storyteller that emotes the words on the page, rather than let the lyrics and the music covey emotion for her.

    “Je suis malade” is a very old song, written for Serge Lama, a male singer actually. Lama basically gave away this song to Lara Fabian once she performed it and he heard her rendition. If you want to explore her power from her late 90s, early 2000s, look up her concert called “En toute intimité”. Lara sang with very little instruments in the background, mostly a piano, in front of a small audience. She ended up “Je suis malade” a capella, no microphone, no music. Amazing if you ask me. And your conclusion is on point: she was born to sing. She’s been singing since she was a toddler. And she can’t stop. She’s a performer in my book. She’s not only singing, she’s interpreting her songs or the songs she’s borrowing from other singers. From her debuts, it’s obvious.

    She's awesome, so masterful at conveying emotion! I discovered her through Dimash and can see her influence on him. I also think she sounds like Celine esp. in her higher registers. Super reaction as per usual 🙂

    @@SingerDadReacts Hi! This performance was in 1999 or 2000, she was 30 years old. You would see, 10 years after, her powerful voice singing Llora (spanish) Mademoiselle Hyde, Tomorrow is a lie... with the master Igor Krutoy playing piano. It's amazing, believe me. So, you could see, how she maintains her incredible and powerhouse voice. These two make an amazing team! Thanks for your very honest reaction 👏👏👏. Lara Fabian is for me one of the best vocalist of the world 💖 I love her 😍

    Great analyse! Spot on! The ability to communicate the emotion and meaning in the lyrics are really the main thing. You can even excuse less brilliant technique if these elements are present. Thanks! Take care!
