CLASSIC VIDEO - 1983 NHRA NORTHSTAR NATIONALS (FULL EVENT)

Ойын-сауық

For the latest in drag racing news, visit www.competitionplus.com
Go back to an era when television broadcasting was at a crossroads. This broadcast on the American Sports Cavalcade was aired on the new Nashville Network, one of the new stations of cable networks in 1983.
The 1983 Northstar Nationals was broken into two broadcasts. One featuring Top Fuel and Top Alcohol Funny Car, and the other with Funny Car, Pro Stock, Top Alcohol Dragster and Competition Eliminator.
We've merged the two broadcasts into one presentation, so some of the seguways might be a little off, but now you know why.
You will see the greats such as Shirley Muldowney, Gary Beck and Gary Ormsby, as well as an up and coming Frank Manzo, referred to as Monzo.
Be sure to download the CompetitionPlus.com mobile app; its a free download at the Apple Store or Google Play.

This was the time when discoveries were made that allowed engines to jump from 1500 to 3000HP. Then jump again to 8000 and then to 11000 Horsepower. The crazy thing is the changes were quite small and they could have had 11000 much earlier because the engines themselves did not change much.

I, along with every other old-school Drag Racing fan absolutely despise competitors throwing races! 😠 I understand that Larry Minor, just like Conrad in the 90's, owned both car's + was his own sponsor, so if he ( & later Conrad ) wanted his other car to win or lose, that's his prerogative, HOWEVER, the NHRA should have put their foot down from the get-go & stopped the charade of driver's THROWING RACE'S!! Today the record-book say's what it say's, but I, & a hellava lot of old-schooler's do NOT view Championship's gained under these circumstances as legit. All they had to do was "don't take the other car to the starting line!!" There NHRA, solved that problem for you! 😆👍

@@hankarmentrout6697 Yes! You are correct sir. Problem was my comment was getting a little long in the tooth & I knew if I started in on Force, well it was gonna turn into a novel! 🥵 As far as this ol' racer is concerned, Big John Force has "5" legit Championship's, 1 more than Snake & KB, and ALL the rest are smoke & mirror's 👎 It is a shame really, because JF was absolutely beloved by all fan's, then 1996 happened & all that love turned into despise for many of us 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@hankarmentrout6697 John hired Cruz Pedregon's little brother Tony & all the "Tanking BS" began in AA/FC. IMO ol' brute Force should have taken the Conrad approach & simply told the fan's "I own these car's & therefore I will win everytime one of my car's is in the other lane" instead he looked the fan's right in their eyes & lied his fat ass off, and then acted totally indignant when the fan's rolled those eyes at him 🙄 As for losing Richmond from the schedule, I too added that to the VERY long list of bone's I have to pick with Wally Parks' once great sport of Major League Drag-racing 😤
