Police don't like to talk about it, because knowing the tactic potentially means beating the tactic, but there is actually coordination to the madness. Even if it sometimes feels like it, not all units working the chase are just following the vehicle. There are units preparing stingers, units running "cleanup" (i.e. searching items reported thrown from the vehicle or attending to collisions on the way) and units anticipating the suspects movements and blocking them in. Cops, like wolves, hunt in packs - the goal is to disorient and hussle the fleeing driver until he is exhausted or makes a mistake. That being said, it looked like the trio of troopers were called out specifically for that chase by the local PD, so most likely Trooper Byrd when running to the squad car said something along the lines of "you guys tag on, imma run interference" to his buddies - and then he was just lucky that he zigged when the suspect zagged.

These guys drive so darn fast! 135, or 140 mph and somehow they don't crash or wipe out other traffic! Awesome! BTW, Officer Byrd did not PIT this guy, the guy crashed. His big mistake was picking some dinky little backstreet to try to flee. That's the disadvantage every runaway baddie has to face. You have to GPS and plan your route. Byrd is like a predator, a raptor; he just extends his claws. You feel it in the way he drives!

Actually from most of these videos, unless you have a supercar or V8 muscle car, most of the escapes seem to happen on residential roads because the suspect drives more recklessly than the troopers are willing to. Byrd is just hard to shake.
@McAwesome363
Жыл бұрын
@@KevinSun242 You just need to know about what the police cars themselves are equipped with. The fastest police cars are the Ford Taurus Police Interceptor, which makes up to 365hp, and the Dodge Charger that makes up to 375hp. Most police cars are equipped with less powerful engines so the horsepower numbers above are a worst case scenario. The top speed is gonna be ~160-170mph for these cars. You need a fast car to outrun the cops on a simple road like the interstate, but hell even Ford Explorers are being equipped with 400hp these days. Give it another 10 years and minivans will be faster than the current fleet of cop cars.

I'm still hoping for bodycams one day, a lot is missed sometimes after the end of a pursuit. Probably help with prosecutions as well occasionally.
@mjohnson9563
Жыл бұрын
Not sure if they already release footage of body cams but the release of the car cams is related to transparency and at this time it appears they are one of the few state agencies who are doing this. Cams not really much for the DAs as their cases are built on many other pieces of evidence beyond a question of doubt for a jury. I know that when it comes to releasing body cam footage audit the audit is one of the few channels who will find and release that information but it is solely related to transparency at the legal level. ASP gets an A+ for the transparency. They are not releasing these videos to showboat as it is a taxpayer funded state agency and they probably appreciate any constructive criticism.
@ourfarmhouseinspain
Жыл бұрын
@@mjohnson9563 I appreciate that anything spoken by anyone in the car would likely be inadmissible as evidence before a caution is delivered, but continuing the visual record of activity after the pursuit is terminated might sometimes have merit, even if to protect officers from allegations of undue heavy handedness during the arrest. And let's be entirely honest, we all want to see these fools with their faces in the weeds, don't we ? Regards

Data from the Arkansas State Police shows an average of 482 pursuits a year from 2018 through 2021, with troopers using a P.I.T. maneuver to stop a chase an average of 108 times. That equals about two a week. Since that time, ASP and the State of Arkansas have been sued and/or settled with the suspects and their families for over 25Million. In that time, three suspects died, and 204 others were injured with 43 troopers and 38 civilians also hurt.
@thomasmartin8202
11 ай бұрын
That's a lot of payola in short-term settlement and long-term insurance costs, and potentially life-long injuries for innocent victims, replacement cop cars, etc. Have the chases sufficiently offset real or potential costs of crime by cutting short criminal behavior? That might be about impossible to calculate. Successful chases are gratifying to watch but are they worth it economically, socially? I'm not anti-chase by any means but there's always more to the calculus than mere emotional satisfaction of seeing criminals stopped and justice served.

YES! Love me some good ASP Pits by Trooper Byrd.

@mjohnson9563
@ourfarmhouseinspain

Regards
Tried to drive down the path as the road is a little to the right sunshine? Humiliation!
Well done fellas !!
@thomasmartin8202
