    The Ryobi reels are nice, solid and dependable. The only downside is parts availability, so keep it serviced and keep it fishing - Best wishes - Dennis

    Great video. It was extremely informative with not only info about how the reel works but the back history too. I recently got a Ryobi reel given to me. It’s a Ryobi TNT 200 BALL BEARING Graphite Spool with a Touchn’ Trip bail release. Well the Touchn’ Trip is not working. I’ve been trying to find some literature as well as videos to help me understand it so that I’m able to fix it. If u have any kind of words of wisdom to help out I would extremely thankful. Either way thanks for ur time

    Glad you enjoyed it! Those trip switches are finicky and once they go, the only solution is a replacement part, which will be difficult if not impossible to find. Thanks for the note - Dennis

    Thanks so much for making this vid! My friend gifted me a nice salmon pole with this reel so I'm excited to reference this video when it needs a little TLC. Luckily it seems to be in good shape, name plate still attached. Probably needs new line though, but a part of me is considering testing my luck with it once I get my fishing license. Were you able to take this out and test it? How did it go? 🎣 Thanks!

    I like these reels and take them fishing. The line is cheap. Don't you dare go with the old stuff on it. I'm sure the memory in the line and the age will make you think the reel is bad. Get a fresh spool just in case you hook into a big one. No sense talking about the one that got away because you didn't change the line - Best wishes - Dennis

    I do not use the ultrasonic cleaner. I don't have that much need as I do not have a large enough volume to make it affordable. I know others that use them and really like the results. - Thank you - Dennis

    I don't have one of these. Ryobi stopped selling reels in the US in the 1990s when they sold their US business to Berkley, which was then acquired by Pure Fishing. As a result, I cannot do a video on it. Thanks for asking - Dennis

    It was before 1990 when Ryobi exited the US market by selling their product line to Berkley. So - somewhere between their early 1970s reels and then. Probably the 1980s

    Hi Dennis, I have a Penn Sargus 3000 spinning reel. The line roller does not rotate all the way down to the bottom of the spool. The result is that my line goes on unevenly. There is more line at the top of spool than the bottom. I have opened it up, but everything looks fine. I am stuck. Any suggestions even though you haven't looked at reel?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    Yes - my first thought is that it could be one of two problems. The bail wire may be bent where it rides higher that it should. That would change the elevation of the line wrap moving it higher up the spool. If that is the case. use gentle pressure to push down on the bail wire to realign it. In the end, the bail wire may need to be replaced. The second is less common. There is a white shim washer that sits on the spool shaft on top of the click rotor. If it is not there, perhaps it was broken and fell off, then the spool would sit lower and cause the line to ride high. Get the schematic for the reel at Mysticparts.com. The washer is #60 on the diagram. Follow the site link under Penn Parts to spinning reels and select Sargus, -

    OMG Dennis, your a genius. Without even looking at my reel you knew what was wrong with. I unscrewed the spool and sure enough, it be was missing part #60 the washer. You are part of a dying art. You don't know how many reels I have had to replace because of California "repair men" in my area not knowing what they are doing. I wish you the best of health and I hope you have an apprentice, someone you can pass you knowledge to. Tight lines.
