I remember my parents watching this show at the time and being confused when David Jason's name went up in the credits. So they went back through the episode to find him, and were shocked he was Blanco the old man. Amazing actor :)

I cant find that episode. Was a very good one. Watched it yrs ago on KZread. Nowadays v difficult to find full episodes.

I've only just got into Porridge - brilliant writing and acting, especially by Ronnie B. Love Lukewarm too, he's so sweet.

I think Porridge was the 1st sitcom to have an openly gay character in it (the character of Mr Humphries in Are you being served was only implied).

David Jason was really good at playing as an old man. He was in his 30s at the time of this episode.

Kate Bekinsale's old man was good as Godber too , he died not too long after this unfortunately !

He was actually going bald and his hair was turning gray anyway. When he played Granville in open all hours a few years later he was dying his hair and wearing a hair piece, and barker was made up to look older, otherwise they'd have just looked like a couple of brothers working in a corner shop

@@adrinathegreat3095 yeah you can tell, when david jason played Jack Frost. David was grey and going thin, and looked his age. When he played del, they made him look younger. That was when both were filmed around the same time.

@@procta2343 David Jason had turned 50 when he first played Jack Frost. Del Boy's character was 5-6 years younger than David Jason in real life -(it was revealed he was 16 in 1962 in the school reunion episode where he met up with Roy Slater and discovered he was the ex husband of Raquel).

You can see where he's standing next to Christopher Biggins that Ronnie Barker actually was quite short. Many people thought he was taller but that was because he was so often seen standing next to Ronnie Corbett.

He was NOT short, he was of medium height. John Cleese was tall, Ronnie Corbett was short, and as you can see in the famous Class Sketch, Barker was right in the middle of them, height-wise. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKykvM2Ee8Wql6Q.html

I noticed it while watching Open All Hours recently, Ronnie wasn't far off David Jason's height and he is only 5' 6". Although some say he's closer to 5.5 truthfully. It's super noticeable when david, nurse gladys actress, and Ronnie are stood outside the shop on the pavement and Ronnie's holding a dog on a leash. You can see how similar in height they are. I always thought Ronnie was very tall until I noticed them together in that scene.

It was a long time before I was informed that was David Jason.

It's funny because in porridge David Jason played in open all hours only fools and horses and porridge.

In porridge barker obviously dyed his hair, and David let his gray hair grow out, so they put a bit of makeup on him to make him look older. In open all hours, barker let his gray hair grow out and jason dyed his hair and wore a wig. He didn't so much specialise in playing old men, in real life he looked much older than his years. Fun fact.. in only fools and horse david was originally going to play grandad, but out came the black hair dye, hair piece and dark eyeliner and delboy was born. There's a couple of video clips around of david jason in the early 80s being himself and he looks like he was in his late 50s

It was said that David and Ronnie were very good friends too, if ronnie hadnt of retired in the mid 80s we may have seen him, in the odd only fools and horses, playing a character, that gets ripped off or rips off del.
