    My favourite bit is in Series G, and it's the part about actor Rodney Bewes inexplicably appearing in a 19th century painting of Leonardo da Vinci's death by Mussini, which leads the panelists to believe that Rodney Bewes is immortal

    Just for the record - across the entirety of Series E there was a recurring "Elephant in the room bonus" - also the reason behind those elephants on sticks you'd see across the compilation. The idea was that there would be a question in each episode which would somehow tie in elephants, and the panellist who played their elephant at the right time would be rewarded with bonus points. Hence, with that being an underlying theme of the series, having the compilation episode being entitled "Elephants" comes somewhat naturally!

    Stephen is the rarest of comperes where if you know he's breaking up like he is here, it's gone waaaaay too far. The only other host I can think of that breaks up (where you *know* it's funny) in a similar fashion is our own Shaun Micallef. Not to the same extent tho. Also, that moment hasn't lost any of its brutal hilarity even after 15 years. Still gets me in tears. Question for Neil, have you reacted to the Emma Thompson episode yet? Similar very entertaining moment where she is talking about one of her Oscars.

    As per usual with QI, some facts are disputed. I will now quote a joke from David Mitchell on his radio-based rival to QI, The Unbelievable Truth. 'The biggest European grower of bananas is Spain, not Iceland. Noone's sure of the exact numbers grown, because just after they start trying to tally them, daylight come and they have to go home." I heard something weird on either the QI podcast or The Infinite Monkey Cage podcast. It said something like all the bananas in the world, all the banana trees come from 1 tree. It turns out that 100s of years ago there was a lot of varieties of bananas but something happened, I can't remember what (probably over farming them, Britain and it's huge trading routes), and left the whole planet with just a handful of trees all belonging to a single variety of Bananas. Luckily someone at that point said "erm.... Lets not take this last sackful, let's grow a few extra trees before we start shipping them all over the world". So all the banana trees in the world all come from that 1 that we decided to leave alone. TBH, thinking about it now, I might have heard it on David Mitchell's "The Unbelievable Truth" Radio show. So it might not be true. hehe

    There are lots of cultivars of banana but commercially there is really only one (Cavendish) that are all clones. This replaced the previous commercial culitvar (Gross Michel) which was almost wiped out by a fungus that Cavendish is resistant too. The problem is as they are all clones, the same thing could happen to Cavendish with other diseases.

  • @SaturnusDK

    @SaturnusDK

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@mikeyb2932 That depends a bit on semantics, and how you see my answer being possible for any percentage value. An argument might be that it's an equal deduction of value every year. For example, if something is 10% cheaper every year you could argue that it loses 10% of the original value every year which is effectively taking the original value dividing by ten and then substracting that value every year until you end up at first zero and then negative values, or each year the value is reduced by 10% of the value it started that year with which effectively means it will take an infinite amount of years before it has zero value. The former method is the one I describe because I assume that the value reaches zero at some point while in the latter example it can never actually reach zero value. Given that premise, zero is the only value that allows for 100% reduction every year without going into absurdities of negative cost values.
