In the 70s I worked DAF Trucks. At the time I drove a Foden S36 and an S80 8x4 tipper for some reason I can't remember. What a pile of garbage. So noisy, uncomfortable. Knee cap breaking pushing the clutch down. DAF 8x4 was like driving a Roller in comparison. Not missed at all. Today's stuff are amazing and effortless thank goodness. Never wanted to be a past trucking hero

My brother and I are American. He is a long haul trucker in the States. These are wonderful machines in superb condition.

I agree with you.The Bedford O B is a beautiful classic coach.I like the classic ERF's & 50's Fodens.Very stylish trucks.Bill Wilson from Nowra NS W.

From the U.S.A., when the vehicles each had their own special looks. The signwriting is some- thing that is very, very special. The paint jobs of these (trucks) lorries is extra special. Many companies here in the U.S.A. don't spend extra money on fleet colors and buy plain jane. So many of the trucks gone, and those that were predators have now become the prey. Our Inter- national co. never really recovered from the recession and had to divest itself of many div- isions and partial holdings like DAF, Seddon- Atkinson, Pegaso, Pacific Truck & Trailer. It has now become a part of Volkswagen (Traton Group) a - long with Scania & MAN. Thanks for the excellent video!

Thanks for your vintage lorry videos. In the 50's and 60 a school boy I sent many happy hours riding with our neighbours family haulage business in Commer/Perkins, Commer two stroke, Bedford S type and TK cattle wagons. Happy memories.

That Atkinson Viewliner must be a rare example now and that Venturer parked alongside it is a beauty.

What an incredible procession of vehicles. It took guts to keep filming as that Peterbilt edged so close! Love seeing the old coaches and the faithful old tractors too. What a day that must have been. Thanks for sharing the day with us and, as I've said before, sincere thanks to everyone who keeps those wonderful vehicles running.

The Bedford OB coach - vert St Trinians, I agree, one of the best

Even though the Daf was on an S plate (1977/78) it is actually later than that as its a 3300 which didn't come into production until 1983

Nice to see Atkinsons on show! My first ever job in the mid 60s was as a grease monkey at a haulage contractor near Newcastle and I had to spend freezing winter weekend mornings lying on a thin bit of cardboard greasing the 28 nipples of every one they had and checking the Gardner engines for fluids. Sometimes it was cold near the River Tyne that fires had to be lit under the trucks to warm up the motors. Still it was worth it to pay off my top mod suit which I wore as school uniform!

Thanks for a great video.Lots of memories here. I remember as a lad in the 60s All the lorry drivers had arms like tree trunks ! They must have had strong legs as well with all the double declutching!

The 350 FG doors on the green truck were designed like that when co- op used them as milk floats so the driver keep getting out was not opening his door into traffic 😁👍

Great to see those lovely old trucks.like the foden mixer My late father drove a Guy Warrior mixer in the 1960 70s what a beast that was !!!

Always had a soft spot for the Bedford OB, having travelled to school on one of these in the 60’s. The sound effects from the gearbox in 2nd and 3rd gears is pure music to the ears. See the 1950 ERF on the trailer, with an unladen weight of 2t 19cwt 3qtrs just crept under the 3 ton limit allowing higher speed limit.

Just love the Fodens… That face!… That grille!… The split screens!… The concrete mixer did it for me though!… Also the Bedford TK, has a special memory for me… that unique air release sound that they used to make!… WOW! WOW! WOW! 💗

Love the old trucks, so stylish, especially the older British trucks. My favourites is anything with a two-stroke diesel, Commer TS3, Foden two stroke and anything with a Detroit Diesel. I love the sound they make. I liked the Commer BF minibus and the Bedford OB bus is amazing, so much classic style, the Bedford has the best gearbox noise in the business. I once went for a ride in a Commer truck with the TS3 engine and the noise in the Cab was, astonishing, loud, bumpy, Wow. Thanks for showing.

Love it, no Hgv driver shortage here!!

The ERF (Edwin Richard Foden) featured from Chirk, had a particular axle configuration that was often called a Chinese 6, a Four in hand or more usually just a Steer, I drove a Leyland Beaver "Steer" for about 10 months back in the late '60s, and boy was I glad when it got scrapped, the steering was so heavy I had arms like Popeye. Bedford used this axle configuration for a very popular coach chassis that featured much smaller wheels and tyres than the more or less universal 900x20 size that were around at the time.

That Leyland Clydesdale was very very nice 👍

I absolutely love the way that despite the almost total lack of Chrome or polished aluminum such as you would see on North American semi trucks, the British have through fantastic used of contrasting colors and pinstripes produced really striking examples of the trucking art form. In my humble opinion an example much more pleasant to the eye, in addition to considerably less effort expended toward maintaining the vehicle's appearance.

I love these videos, it's like going down memory lane, I was a kid in the fifties so I remember most of the types, spent more time round the back of the fairground looking at the foden erf aec scammels chocked up running as gennies

I really enjoy these videos with the classic commercial vehicles. So many that we don't have here in the US.

Fantastic video, made my day seeing the old FG, when I was young the bloke next door but one drove a BMC FG for the local coal merchant. He would call in at home with it at lunch times. It was usually filthy. It was a source of fascination to us kids mainly because we were warned to keep away from it in case we got covered in coal dust. I seem to remember you could walk across inside the cab to exit on the nearside. Handy for multi stop work like a coal round.

I remember the FG lorry ,used by sunblest bread .there was a street lamp outside my house and they used a cherry picker to change the bulb, the cherry picker was a FG

My favourite is the Bedford coach. As a youngster we travelled to school in one with its unique sounds and smell. Having said all that, there are some stunning vehicles in your video!

The Bedford OB has to be my favourite closely followed by the little Commer coach.

This video is my former 1968-vintage Matchbox Motorway in real life! Can't forget those Foden and Leyland models.

My dad was a lurry driver from before I was born originally working for the family corn mill run by his father, I spent many days during school holidays out delivering with him.(distributing animal feeds etc to local farms) his lurry was an old Albion. The family firm was taken over in the mid1930s by Manchester and District Farmers M & D F Ltd, part of the CWS wholesale, one of the depots Dad visited was Chelford in Cheshire. I alway remember one of the drivers who was based in Chelford, coming to the mill, Mum used to make dinner for him. Us kids called him Charlie from Chelford.

I like the Corsair. Sides like a '60's Ford Thunderbird, and a nose like a Studebaker Avanti. Not unpleasant at all. Sort of hoped to see a Foden steam power, but no luck.

The fact that so many have survived and been lovingly and painstakingly restored and preserved, shows the enormous respect for the "working" machines doted on over the decades! Bedford bus is a very lovely bus 🚌

that was a nice d series with the perkins v8 the cummings v8 was not great and the ford turbo needed changing at hundred thousand miles ,nice vidio

The original Daf F241 series came out in 1973 so it could easily of been a re-cabbed Daf 2800 which is identical to the 3300/3600 both of which came into production in the 1980s the only difference between them being engine size

All of them looks great I have a Leyland Clydesdale that I am making for my self love the old school

Some absolute great looking trucks nice to see a different looking Ford truck from another country like the old wrecker really nice rather then what you see here in the US 🇺🇸 nice video thank you. 🙂👍✌

Geoff here in Australia, love your blog I went to school in York Yorkshire in a Austin bus like the one you showed and in Australia I drove a G88 carting cattle and allow I restored a 1947 Thornycroft sadly I had to sell it 😢. Great work keep on trucking guys.

Spot on with the BMC FG. Designed to be a town delivery vehicle. Probably got the Austin 6cyl petrol with 4 speed constant mesh gearbox. Favourite to look at? Foden S21 6 wheeler with the mixer. Unusual, as quite a late version of that cab, I think with the Foden 2 stroke as it went by. Also hydraulic drive to drum. Thanks for video.

Couldn't pick out just one favourite. Any of the units with twin front axles will do for me.

Lovely. The 1965 Mack B-61 is customized. This truck came from the factory with single headlights, the double headlights on this Mack seem to come off a 1980's Kenworth Aerodyne. The grill seems to be an aftermarket grill or maybe off a Brockway. Thank you for the lovely videos and regards from Las Vegas Nevada.

I think one of the reasons why the OB lasted so long was that in 1950 Bedford ceased production and replaced the OB with with the larger SB range. I think the early versions of the SB were about 27ft long and later ones 30ft. Many rural operators who often operated stage carriage services found the relatively compact OB an ideal size and kept them going for a lot longer than normal but it seems the rugged nature of what is really a lightweight and their simple construction helped in their longevity. Bedford didn't really get around to replacing them until the early 60s with the VAS or VA (short)

The Leyland looked similar to old dodge from about 1960 you don’t see many Chinese six wheelers anymore

I am a fan of these old commercial busses, Lorries & vans. The one that is always missing is the Brook Bond Trojan. Have any of these survived ?

1960's Bedford and International Harvester COE's sure do resemble each other.

I remember the Allied Bakeries Sunblest FGs.

There is one three wheeler van I remember back in the 1950,s as a young child the front was the single wheel protruding out of the front of it and it had coil springs for suspension this example was a red do you now what make it was . My favourite truck is the Albion and with it sign writing.

Hi, love your video of old British trucks … hope you won’t be offended if I make a suggestion. When running the camera, could you pan a little slower so we might better see the detail of the subject vehicle? A period of 3 - 5 secs should be ample to view most vehicles. I’m no expert but, maybe others can be more precise in their instructions.

Would be nice to know what wages the drivers on the oldest of these wagons. I started driving in 1972 on a Trader 70 for £15 a week and that was for a 6 day week.

Great footage, my parents own the Bond and I was in one of the ERFs its a great run out. If you contact the organiser I am sure they will supply you one of the booklets with all the vehicles and owners listed to help with your video descriptions. We start at Lymm services and the end point is in Rixton.

It could be worth trying a polarizing filter on your camera lens, it would cut out a lot of reflections when you look through glass into the cabs.

They're usually called 'Twin steers', either on a Chinese Six three axle truck = one drive axle+two steers, or, on an Eight wheeler - two drives and two steers. Greetings

I was always given to understand the shape of the FG cab was to allow exit from the cab without having to jump out 'blind' into the path of the traffic.

Long time ago 1964 used to stop this Truck stop, aint changed a bit !

you where able to drive with the door open also the door was within the body width

My driver's licence (1987) enables me to drive a lorry up to 7.5 tons*, but that changed a few years later thus ruling out driving an old lorry without passing an HGV for more recent drivers. * possibly a hobby vehicle only rather than commercially (someone will know)

👍We used to get wagons thundering past our primary school in the 1970s to the nearby chemical plant. Magirus Deutz, Seddon Atkinson etc. The haulage yard behind our terrace had a fleet of curvy Volvo F86s, but replaced them with boxy F88s. My next-door mate's dad used to drive them. We hopped up in the cab with him to buzz around town (sans trailer). No seatbelts, of course - we just sat over the engine in the middle! They used to have a crude "bunk" behind the seats, with a thin foam mattress and sleeping bag for long hauls. Is your favourite film "Hell Drivers (1958)" by any chance? 😁

For this one there's a Facebook group (The Cheshire Run), other events I either remember from previous years so look them out early in the year, or trawl the internet for anything taking place

What a great show! Thank you for sharing. At 3:30 I can read CAUTION - AIR BRAKES on the rear mud flap. Why does that need a caution?

The caution about air brakes was because they were much more powerful than hydraulic or vacuum hydraulic brakes and therefore stopped a lot quicker than other lorries

BoJo has really scraped the bottom of the barrel to solve the English truck shortage…

Probably all got used filming The Italian Job! There may have been one at Llandudno earlier this year, there were a few 400Es there
