What's also ironic is that melons can also be used to brew beer as well. I also like how Stage 15 on Super Pac-Man is a maze full of Galboss, aka Galaxian Flagships. It's funny how on most Namco games that everytime they make a cameo as a bonus item, it's food related. Like on most of the Dig Dug games, where they appear as "Vegetables".

There are actually official versions on the Commodore 64 and MS-DOS.

I have Super Pac-Man on my Pac-Man Museum game for my PS3 and I love it. Super Pac-Man is also playable on Ms. Pac-Man: Special Color Edition for the Game Boy Color and the Namco Museum series.

Namco regards _this_ title as the true sequel to _Pac-Man_. Midway created _Ms. Pac-Man_, _Pac-Man Plus_, _Baby Pac-Man_, _Jr. Pac-Man_ and the rather oddball _Professor Pac-Man_ all without Namco's consent (and thus ending the relationship between Namco and Midway in 1984) and, except for _Ms. Pac-Man_, have not been acknowledged as canon to the Pac-Man universe.

But Pac-Jr, Pac-Baby, and Professor Pac all appear in later official games. Even Chomp Chomp, Pac-Man's dog from the cartoon, appears in later official games.

Super Pac was played a few times on the early 80s arcade gameshow "Starcade".

I remember having 1 of those plug and play systems, and I used to play Super Pac-Man on it a lot. Super Pac-Man is awesome and fun. 👏🏻

It got a game boy color release as a bonus game bundled with ms Pac-Man special edition

A prototype for the 5200 was found and released by AtariAge several years ago. There's also a homebrew for the 7800. Bother are very good versions.

Ken Wheeler We had Super Pac-Man (5200 rip) on Atari 8-bit back in the 1980s. A really great version that wasn"t released due to the market crash.

Mark, you're really good at classic arcade games. It's nice to see your skills on display here with a few narrow escapes!

I remember playing this game at my local arcade back in the 80's, my small community did indeed have an arcade, and I think that was the only place where I ever had a chance to play it. I don't think I've ever seen the machine ever again.

I used to have this game on a plug n play when i was in the first grade and it was always my favorite Pacman game ^-^ God i miss this game

In level 10, I believe those are Japanese musk melons. As for Super Pac-Man's not being commercially successful, that might owe in fact to the presence of Ms. Pac-Man, which was not the official sequel, and to this day Namco does not acknowledge it in most compilations. Midway took the idea for Crazy Otto and turned it into Ms. Pac-Man, then turned the rights to Ms. Pac-Man over to Namco, and it wasn't the last time they abused the Pac-Man license. Once Pac-Land was out, Midway lost the license.

One really great tip with Super Pac-Man is that when you are super sized, eating the power pellets resets the super timer, so you can stay big, and combined with super speed (and perfect reflexes), you can clean up the maze _VERY_ quickly.

I actually once found this game in the wild. 1990-something. Between the power pellets, SUPER pellets, speed and fewer 'dots', I literally grew bored past the half hour mark on the first quarter.

Always one of my favourites back in the day.

Level 10 I always thought that there were grenades.

This game is actually also a part of this cool little Pac-Man arcade console thingy that I found at a store once, which came with 4 Pac-Man titles. It's the only reason I actually know about this game.

My favorite Pac-Man game of all. I've never had the privilege of seeing the actual arcade cabinet of it though. I've only played it various home consoles and the Game Boy Color.

Loved the woo's! You should include more shots of you playing the games rather then just the footage of the game.

Funny enough, I've been playing Super Pac Man for 8 years now on my 60 in 1 cab, and just now found out you could use the button to gain super speed. I always assumed it was joystick only like the original.

it seems like they wanted to do the key and door thing with the original pac-man because of the key and lock being in the original pac-man bonus items, and that this game is the realization of that concept.

This game was in a Ms Pacman Collection on Gameboy Color, I played it when I was a teen. Pretty fun game.

I totally agree that Super Pacman is under rated. There was an arcade machine at a pizza parlor where I grew up and I loved playing it.

Is the "cutter" in the coin mechanism (:44) there to cut quarters with strings tied to them? I remember having one as a kid.

The Namco Pac Man Tournament app for Android currently has a Google/Android themed tournament, where the bonus "fruit" are all the different versions of Android, i.e. cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo, gingerbread, honeycomb, ice cream sandwich, and jelly bean. This tournament has bonus rounds that remind me very much of the bonus rounds in Super Pac Man. Anyway, Super Pac Man is a favourite of mine. I have very fond memories of this one from bitd. :)

I had never heard of the or played the game up until last year when i went to a bar called Recess they have various arcade machines there but one particular arcade machine had about 20 games in it to choose from and Super Pac-Man was one of them. I thought it was weird and cool that it was different from regular pac-man

That thing looks like the savegame icon for Dead Or Alive 2 on the PS2. That round stuff with a stem on top. It must be some kind of exotic fruit. Osage Orange, maybe?

Yeah this is a great game. Nice strategy involved to maximise your scoring. The only problem I have is that it hurts my hand after playing a couple of games. When you become Super, the joystick really needs to be jammed around hard to go where you want.

The GBC Ms. PacMan port has Super PacMan on it

Actually, I remember this game by the Game Boy Color Port. It was on Ms. Pac Man Special Color Edition and I used to play both games all the time. I also doesn't understand why it's not as popular.

Are you thinking of Baby Pac-Man? That was the one that was half pinball. And I'd love to see Mark review that one! Pac-Man Jr. is the one where the screen is about 3X the width and across right and left as you play in the arcades.

I had this game for my Atari 800XL home computer. It was to be released for the Atari 5200 & the XL/XE computers, but never happened. It got leaked into "the wild".

Probably the only Pac-Man game I'm actually good at. I scored over 300,000 at my local barcade once. I was about 20,000 points away from beating the current record there.

I wish it would show up again... it would work well on the new wide screen TVs too!

Wasn't Super Pac-Man included in the Genesis version of Pac-Man 2? (replacing Ms. Pac-Man from the SNES version, likely due to that the Tengen Ms. Pac-Man had been released prior to that on Genesis but not until later on SNES).
