We're living in the CGR Renaissance boys.

I work at Universal Studios in Florida. About 5 years ago, a Zaxxon machine showed up in the arcade. I immediately inserted a quarter, and proceeded to kick Zaxxon’s ass! One of the attendent ‘kids’ watching, informed me, that no one even knew what to do - and that I got further than anyone. I simply replied, “Experience kid…” Btw: As simplistic as it is, I really enjoy the Atari 2600 version!

Man, being early to a CGR video takes me back to being 20. This completely made my day. Thank you, Mark

I played this game as a 4 year old. I found it both fun, and terrifying. It was how you could not gauge how high, or low you were. It looked nothing like the arcade, but it was so unique at the time.

The Jabs at the Angry Nerd video tropes are hilarious :P.

I rarely drink, and i usually drink red wine. Ive never had PBR. I might go out and go get a 6 pack of PBR now. Thank you Mark. 🎉

Zaxxon for the Atari 2600 was one of the first games I got for the system. Once you know which enemies are at which heights, it's actually not a bad game.

Hey Mark, just a heads up: Sega doesn't need to go back in time and remake this, as nowadays there's an excellent homebrew version of Zaxxon on 2600 called Space Raid that does a very good job of recreating the Zaxxon experience! You should review it!

Man, I feel like the shoot'em up games (both 2D and 3D) need to make a comeback. They were very popular and were everywhere. It's a "dying" genre.

I remember buying a case of PBR my freshman year of college in 93 obviously because it was cheap. I couldn't finish one and couldn't give the rest away in a college dorm. 😅

Despite its differences from the arcade game, I really always liked this version of Zaxxon. (Honestly, I think I like it more than the arcade game)

4:34 - "It kind of has some things in common with, Zaxxon the arcade game - the type font is the same on the cartridge". That made me laugh! Zaxxon was always a tough game, even the home ports that did a halfway decent job with the isometric view (the port for the Atari 8 bit computers is quite good), but the limited hardware of the 2600 makes this a tough game - just figuring out if your ship will clear the walls.

Haven’t watched CGR in years. Last time I was here you were reviewing comic books under a different name. I’m pretty sure that was 3 years ago. Can anyone fill me in on what’s been going on?

Drinking PBR seems oddly appropriate while playing this version of Zaxxon.

Zaxxon 3D on the Sega Master System really was a next gen port of Atari 2600 Zaxxon, wasn't it? Zaxxon 3D wasn't much like the arcade Zaxxon either. It's really puzzling that Sega never really released a straight port of Zaxxon on either the Mark III/Sega Master System or the Mega Drive/Genesis. Sega probably just figured that, by the late 1980s, a straight port of arcade Zaxxon from 1982 wouldn't have sold well but I think the arcade game's graphics have aged better than Zaxxon 3D.

i asked sony if they would port zaxxon for atari 2600 to the PS5 soon. they said no. they said the gpu couldnt handle it. i think this game is from uranus. it's too advanced. on a serious note, Gyruss on the NES is pretty slick. mark + cgr = the bob ross of viddy games. happy little pixels!
