I really appreciate that Mark addressed so much in this podcast. How streaming platforms work, the reason for who defeats, and omega ronin. CGR has and will always hold a special place in my life. I still remember the day this man reviewed a basil mozzarella sandwich in his garden. Thank you Mark for all the years and memories.

As much as I understand the frustrations Mark expresses here, I LOVE CGR in podcast form! I think a lot of us are here for Mark's personality, and we get that in raw, undiluted form in this format. Sadly, KZread really has been ruined by Google. It's a very, very odd experience for creators AND viewers these days.

Sad news on CGR 2085 but not unexpected. I like the idea that it could evolve. Hopefully some of it will be on YT shorts here. As an 80s kid I'm having a hard time making myself jump to tik tok for anything. I think when Mark started posting there I found them on a random google search and it was the first time I ever looked on that site. I'm super grateful to Mark for creating this new season. Its always nice to hear voices on YT that are not 2-3 generations behind me. Its really really appreciated.

I was so bummed when CGR stopped a few years ago, and now I'm delighted you're back. Even if it doesn't last, it's amazing to hear you talk about games and chat candidly about your process to your great music. Either way, you can bet your sweet bippy I'm gonna enjoy it while it lasts. 👍

I grew up on CGR, captured by the vibe and your voice. I just recently moved into my first apartment, and having a weekly CGR to look forward to has brightened my weeks so much. Even if you never do another 2085, I hope you keep this feeling alive in some sustainable form, whether it be low-effort videos, or a podcast like this. It's comfort food for my soul. My kids also love CGR and think Mark is a cool guy but they got that directly from me. It baffles me that you don't get more likes and views on these newer episodes... either way I'm loving what you do and even my wife.. a self declared non-gamer is on board a little bit because she loves Omega Ronin and says she feels like Knight Rider when she listens to it in the car. I think you're right about KZread pushing forward shorts and thus starving longer content creator. And as a viewer I can see how the structure of youtube has changed and how my feed has slowly became more about wasting as much of my time as possible and less about giving me enjoyable and satisfying content to watch. And this is even more true now than my favorite channels had to either adapt or disappear. And I have many ways to waste my free time but KZread is closer to an addiction than genuine enjoyment at the moment and it seem unlikely like this is going to change in a good way. And to your point about people not getting notified about your videos, it's happening to many several channels I'm subscribed to. For example I'm subscribed to Regular car reviews and I haven't seen any of their videos recommended for months so I was wondering if I accidentally unsubscribed or if they took some vacation or whatever and no, they didn't, they have been putting out one video per week as they've always been. So right now I'm trying to focus solely on channels I'm subscribed to but eventually I'll have to cut KZread out of my life entirely. So I'm thankful that you brought classic game room back to life and I'm going to enjoy however long it will last.

I'm a visual artist trying to leverage Instagram in a manner similar to how you leverage KZread, Mark, in order to attract sincere and invested folks to the work we produce. Needless to say, I have a great deal of empathy for the challenges you described about the way these platforms continue to favor content based squarely upon the monetary gain and thus leaving those of us who seek to produce authentic work in a position to adapt at the expense of quality or be shuffled amongst the crowd. You inspire me with how long you've been in the game regardless, so keep it up and thank you for CGR.

You know what the main problem is? platforms always chasing the latest trends. Because at the end of the day, there are people out there craving for every kind of content that can be produced. Shorts, long essays, high production docs, low production. There is an audience to everything. The problem is that creators are hostages to the whims of giant platforms, and they keep focusing on one specific format that they believe is the ultimate format. Alienating both creators and audiences not into the current trend.

Oh man this was a heavy podcast. I really miss the old classic game room reviews, even the cgrundertow stuff. It’s sad to hear that even though one of my favorite KZread artists is back and making videos again but that struggle seems really. You just can’t compete with the KZread shorts and that’s a shame. I honestly wish that KZread would have a setting that removes the shorts off of my app it’s very distracting and I feel I get nothing of substance from any shorts. I’ll support Cgr forever but I understand that Mark can’t sustain the review videos like they used to be. That’s what time does to us all, I’m only 41 years old and already feel like I’m getting left behind. CGR forever!

You're right, they do speed up that music to annoying chipmunk to viral 20 second Tik Tok videos. Honestly, I approach my videos the same way, with a combination of Shorts and long form with clickbait saved only for Shorts, the modern Sunday Funnies strip. I wonder what Mark of those old 90s video game shows like Video Power and GamePro TV. That's all we had back then.

Do you know, I think the POD might be the best future for CGR. I loved CGR v2 - so much so I even bought the original CGR with Dave on DVD - and that two-part review of Red Faction, magnificent! But for me, it was of its time. I was in my early 30s and it really spoke to me. It was an elegant format, for a more civilised age. Now I'm in my mid-40s I love podcasts. I shove them on all the time. It's easy long format listening.

Mark, don't give yourself the unnecessary pressure of a release schedule. Make and drop videos when you're able. I think a lot of that pressure causes the ubiquitous burnout that a lot people on this platform experience. Also, the pressure will suck any and all enjoyment that you get from the process. You have a niche fan base and supporters and they'll always be ready to view any and all content you make when you make it on your time.

If I had a shoestring budget… that would be great, but I think the charm in some of my videos is that as an artist, graphic designer and performer, I come up with creative ways to solve problems. Sure, I have bought some equipment here and there, but I don’t have the training you do in film production. So, I think I do well with the set of skills and tools I have.

Algorithm today shows the video to people interested in what KZread thinks your content is about. So in older channels, subs might have shifted from watching game videos to watching, I don't know, financial videos, over their life. That's why you become invisible to subs. KZread determines that user isn't interested in games anymore. New youtubbers on reddit now recommend start new channels from scratch. Which is crazy, but it will be shown to new people at the start. Another option is paying for your video to be shown to people as an ad.

It's a shame the views for CGR 2085 have been less than what your numerous news regurgitating hacks are getting on their daily uploads. The quality is there, but seems like there's only 5,000 of us enjoying it. Doesn't make sense to me. I think the same loyal audience would tune in to any future podcast episode like this one, and it has some growth potential. A suggestion I have is to pick a few comments from each previous video to read and respond to - incentivising more quantity and quality comments which COULD tip the scale of the almighty algorithm of fate... And bump your vids onto video siggestion feeds.
