Classic Game Room - GOTTLIEB'S 2001 pinball machine review
Classic Game Room reviews Gottlieb's 2001 from 1971, a pinball machine from the past depicting the future in the past!! While this 70's electro mechanical pinball machine has no relation to the classic film, 2001 A Space Odyssey, the inspiration is clearly there. Girls in spandex flying through "space", colors, stars and a dude surfing on a triangle, it's Gottlieb's 2001! This pinball video review shows 2001 the pinball machine on video with gameplay from Gottlieb's 2001 at PAPA World Headquarters in Pittsburgh. Look at the backglass (2001 back glass), bumpers, flippers and drop targets. It's Gottlieb's 2001 pinball machine at the arcades!

Man the sounds of that pin takes me back. I remember the pizza restaurants in Groveport where I was growing up, and in the very early 70s I'd go to one in particular and play the table there. I don't remember what pin it was, but I do remember it was very giving of free games. I won around 23 games on it and played the thing for around an hour, with some other neighborhood kids watching me do it. Then my mom, knowing where I was, called the owner and had him tell me to get home for supper. I gave the remaining games to the kids (I was 9 or 10 then). Last time I played a real pinball table was at some barcade a few years ago; they were all the newer types from the late 90s-early 2000s. They're fun, but I really prefer the older machines from the 60s and 70s.

EMs from the 60s, 70s are the best. The 80s had some good ones, but 2000 and newer is just too much stuff on the playfield, more work than fun, gaming on them.
This is one of my favorite Gottlieb wedge heads drop target games in my collection. Your 2001 is playing great with lots of speed and power. Thanks for the great video!
My folks bought me this game for my birthday in 1977! Wish I still had it. Sold it in the mid 89s when I moved 😢
It's more than gorgeous Mark, it's MANTASTIC.
I really like 80s and 90s machines , but i do love these much older ones too.
I am liking these pinball reviews, keep up the good work Bussler!
It is 2021 and I have a Gottlieb 2001 machine sitting in my garage waiting to be repaired and restored.
I miss 2001. Those were the goldens days. I miss fly on triangles, talking on invisible cell phones and punching blue girls IN SPACE. Sigh, MEMORIES.
Back in the 60s we always talked about the year 2000 that there would be flying cars, ray guns, and dinner in a pill.
I really like these pinball reviews.
Love the pinball reviews!!
Very cool!! Congratulations!! Greetings from Brazil!!
Amazing Video Mark !!
Good afternoon, Mark. I am a 2001 pinball machine. I became operational at the Gottlieb factory on the 10th of July, 1971. My instructor was Mr. Gottlieb, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
Man these guys knew exactly what 2001 would look like.
gotta love a retro pinball table
Great video! Thanks.
I love pinball and video games. But most of all, I love Classic Game Room!
dude, that pinball machine IS gorgeous. Look at those vintage 70's colors. I would totally bogart that thing if it was somewhere near me, catch my drift ? Totally Bogus that there aren't any real Pinball/arcades around here. Ah well, can you show some more old Pinball machines ?
reminds me of Surf Champ.. which my friend's dad has a completely restored table... it's awesome.
It really does have a nice feel and look too it
I didn't get to play this machine when it was new because I was only 2 years old in 1971. =(
Xenon is my favorite classic pinball machine, that and Kiss.
Got this on Future Pinball ... its superb
Gotta love the music
Awesome !
I'd love to see a review of the pinball machines Ben Heck made :D
ya they should put mor out there we miss them
The special thing is lit!!!!
You are amazing!
:52 this is some GRADE A HUMOR
I loved 2001, not because of the movie which I haven't seen or the book that I've read or indeed this pinball game, but because of the awesome music that was released that year, only 10 years ago, there was some truly awesome music released on the calendar year 2001, I've got a lot of it on CD, John Butler Trio, Daft Punk, New Order, Nick Cave, System Of A Down, Sugar Ray, The Strokes and many many others. I've never played a Pinball game as old as this one before, completely mechanical.
hahaha good video.. I was the one in the next aisle from you cracking up while you were filming.. SHOOT THE PYRAMID hahaha oh wait that was stargate
I used to have a Panthera pinball machine.
Damn it, I want my SPACE TRIANGLE!!! It's been ten years now!
I wonder if Mark reviewed every table at the that show. He probably has enough material to last him all year.
@DodgyDan4 Most likely it rolls over to all zeros. Of course games like Pacman and DK had Kill Screens because the Memory addressed for levels/Score went to high and hit other memory space. Just wiki Kill Screens for the whole story.
They made the "2001" machine in 1971. I wish they had made a "1971" model in 2001. Would've been so meta.
I am flying around on my triangle, it's pretty cool, it's a 2001 model.
This machine is in the film, the Warriors, subway scene: warriors vs the punks
red has (was) always stood for special... an extra credit. who and when, made ORANGE = extra ball and GREEN = lock ball, the standards that we use today ? i have a couple of guesses but nothing concrete. any help guys ?
Nice throwing 2001 music in there.
where does he find all of these machines.
@Snotnarok Are they Mark Clones?
@Lugmillord I know! I hate these hovering squares we use today, ah the good old days.
Mark should be on TV. Someone have to fix that!
It's called 2001 and if I imagine the back glass is a top view looking down, it reminds me of people falling from the two towers.
With this video, what city & state was this located?
awsome
cool review.. me and my buddy were in the next aisle cracking up while you were filming.. wheres that stargate video? SHOOT THE PYRAMID!
@AwesomePossumReviews PAPA Headquarters. Either he took alot of footage when he was at Pinburgh, or he's living in PAPA.
I'll say no thanks to giving a computer a virus, as my computer in my guest room, had to fight off a Trojan virus, and had to shit out an infected worm. LOL!
What's the name of that pinball machine to the left of the machine you're playing on? The one on the left looks an awful lot like one my dad had some 18 years ago that he got for free (non-working) and intended on fixing but never got around to it so he ended up sending it to an auto wrecker.
I love pinball machines, fun to play, fin to listen too, and you can always improve on the scores ..oh by the way 7777777777777777777...your welcome Lord Carnage!
nice so many machines are they all yours
@Lugmillord I personally upgraded to the square.
why cant i remember when i got out of the galaxy :P
mark looks like vitali Petrov form f1 in this video
yeah!
Great game the add-a-ball Dimension is even better (play and art wise). You are a good pinball player but if you add in more bounce passing (not flipping and letting it bounce off of a flipper) you'll go next level.
i need to visit PAPA before i die
Kind of funny how the 1950+'s people have so high expectation in the future :p
I'd say the guy is holding an invisible cel-phone that's using the speaker phone over just making a fist. :P
Review that " The Who-Tommy" machine they have!
@PS3MASTER320 No, it´s a pinball arcade kinda.
oh man,they removed all the pinball machines on the shopping mall near to my house.so sad ;_;
@ThyChrysanthemum I know remember Back to the Future 2 in 4 years were gonna have flying cares self lacing laces and huverboards. Theirs no way they could be wrong about that.
@spinynorman1982 I want to see his reviews of 3001 Pinball machines from 2971.
Is there a virtual pinball machine of this for sale. I see plenty of 90's virtual pinball machines but I am not interested in anything post 1980. Anybody know of vr machines that carry only games from 1960 to 1980?
@mrhackesau how did you never like pinball?
What does the score do when you reach over 9999?
nice machine they should of made a clock work orange one
Mark, could you please review Indiana Jones Pinball machine. They got one at local pub and could not figure out how to play it.
@spinynorman1982 or better yet, attach the head to cybernetic body, with the name "Lord Karnage" engraved in giant bold letters in the back.
How many points for a replay on this machine?
i simply love you.
@ultimatebman He mentioned it.
Cool o_o
I love SPANDEX!
You should a review of fossil fighters on ds. It's got a trex with a flame thrower!
@LiquidArmProduction yeah I wanna get past the 2012 thing and see the false 2015
well they got the girls in spandex part right
true.
Now go back to the 70s and make a huge building in flames, succumbing into it's own weight at this machine... They would be like "DA HELL?!"
as old as i am and like me in good condition. ; )
@CrocoDuck420 One of the CGR Undertow members, now you know.
have you watched the movie Moon?
Review Midevil Madness, its an awesome game
Can anyone walk in to the pinball association and play the machines?
Did only the U.S. make pinball machines pre-1980?
Maybe I missed this, but why does Mark talk like a robot in all of his videos? It's kind of funny.
7 Lets make lord Karnage even richer then he is now.
I never liked Pinball - but u get me to love everything ! Hope u dont review heroin ^^
@RKTGX95 you missed one 7
It seems like the computer disliked this.
Wow, Bungie must owe Lord Karnage lots and lots of money.
@mrhackesau whats heroin?
Number 7 what do i win?
were the hell is papa's place
Who exactly is this Lord Karnage?
