Classic Eames Lounge Chair Restoration

at CSG Upholstery every once in awhile I get to do a really fun project with high end materials for clients, this particular chair was made in 1971 and it was an honor to breathe some new life into such an iconic piece of American history originating nearby in Zeeland, Michigan! I made this video to demonstrate the amount of work required to reupholster this type of chair. Enjoy!
Leather is from Apex Leather I'm not officially endorsed by them but I have loved working with their leather it is world class stuff.

Thanks for this content, I am in the process of restoring a Selig Eames style lounge chair and this video comes very handy, although I must tell you that your chair is not an original Eames, Herman Miller, it is a reproduction of the Plycraft company which made several versions of this iconic chair, is still magnificent, thanks again and you have earned another subscriber

Yes! It is a replica, thank you! I wanted to introduce the video that way because the originals were so iconic that even replica chairs demand a high price point / worth restoring with leather. This chair is indeed a Plycraft from March 3rd 1971 (it was stamped) I’m impressed by your knowledge of this furniture! Let me know if you need any help with anything!

It’s a reproduction, not an original classic eames lounge chair. Do you know what the manufacturer is?

Correct, it’s a replica from 1977 and I don’t remember the manufacture it was labeled under the inner plywood

How much would a job like this cost? I’ve got an old selig that is very very worn and torn. Seeing your final product is so inspirational.

Hey ! This would cost about 500 give or take I used actual leather for this project so it could run a little more but that’s a good ballpark!

Nice job. But that is not an original eames chair it is a replica. Eames chairs have everything zippered on.

Yes I’m aware it’s a replica!! The older models would have been done similarly

Do you know approximately how many yards of fabric you used?

  • @camerongruntman2940

Hello! Yardage wise I think it would be close to about 2 yards but I used leather and I used approximately 70 percent of the hide. I hope that helps! I remember thinking that if it had a footstool I would have plenty of material left. Square footage wise maybe 30 square feet?

Honestly a waste of energy! Since it's immediately recognizable as a fake! the proportions are wrong!
