I rode a 1999 kx500 for a long time. I find it way harder to hang onto my 2018 yz250. The yz is so crisp it rips the hands off ya. Kx500 POWER is very soild alot long pulling and doesnt really suprise you.

Ernie Desjardins gotta agree to Ernie. I fell these newer 250 are more wicked..as the 500 will not have the same curve in power

All those 500 class bikes were beasts. I had all 4 of the big names and my YZ 490 was the best of the 4. My CR 500 had horrible head shake at high speed but ran like a raped ape. My RM was a slug traded it for the KX which turned out to be a beast, handling sucked. My YZ 490 was the cream of the crop, handled well, hauled ass and loved to hang out on the rear wheel.. miss that bike

I rode a 1995 KTM 440EXC for years. It was my first full-size bike. I moved up to that from an XR200. I sure miss that thing. Left hand kick old world European big bore sound. Magnesium water pump cover that wore though periodically and the same clutch as a 125. Ancient frame design and a long wheel base. It loved to climb the dunes in St. Antony Idaho. The power was highly manageable and came on smooth. Not like CR or KX 500’s. It made massive torque on the bottom and continued on through the explosive top end, unlike the 550. I can remember pulling other big bores hard off the start, climbing choke cherry in the dunes. I loved to surprise folks when they realized a 14/15 year old kid was throwing a big bore around. My dad raced Cam-Am 500 ASE for awhile when I was kid. 83-87. He kept his 85 for a long time. Talk about an ill handling beast! Now I’m nearly 40 and ride KTM 300XCW and a Husqvarna 300TE, my dad is still buzzing around on KTM525XC.

Very cool to watch. Thumbs up. I had a 1974 YZ 250. I modded the rear suspension and gave it more travel and height by moving the shock pegs. I also had to put a Teflon chain pad on the pivot of the swing arm because the chain would wear there due to the suspension height change. That was a crazy fun bike with one wicked powerband.

We’re also rebuilding a 1976 Kawasaki 750 triple into a cafe racer style bike. They all sound amazing and look great, the triple with the three banana pipes is a monster!
