It's crazy how there are entire KZread channels based on this concept. Along with dropping stuff from buildings, how ridiculous is that? Dave is the best!

Golden years of the show

The great thing about the internet is that we are (re)introduced to the real innovators and talent.

I love these Letterman comedy bits from the 80's. Like Dave said it was "juvenile and silly", it also happened to be very funny. This is so much better than his bland CBS show and having celebrities like Dr. Phil read the Top 10 list. Very mainstream and boring.

Good gravy: He put his friggin' *hand* in there!

I'm surprised he didn't cut to a close up of a fake rubber hand in the press getting crushed. "Oh, boy, that's going to leave a mark."

The best of the Letterman hydraulic press bits! "One of the kids is sick!" I lose it every time!!!

Why is everyone calling Dave an a**hole ?? The man is incredibly funny and talented, and I wish he did not retire. I think he should've stuck around for at least another 10 years.

It was just his style. This guy was supposed to be the host of the tonight show. Leno was ok but letterman wasn't kissing nbc ass like Leno did to get the tonight show. Carson was right in liking letterman and even wrote jokes for his monologues.

The joke about announcing Tom Hanks for tomorrow and then having him come in from the hallway seems very familiar. Did he repeat that joke with any other guests?

Happened to stumble upon this clip one day short of 30 years from original air date.

So he invented the hydraulic press channel, slow mo guys...

The bell had the bell smashed out of it. The press rang its bell. That was one bell of a good idea. It was also a smashing idea. Everything was quite flattered.

Those donuts look exactly like what I think a person's head would look like in there.

Was there a part two? That was freaking awesome!

i can only imagine the post production meeting where they exclaimed, ‘they went nuts for the squashed jelly doughnuts!’ i think we have something here...

I would have thought that the bell would be too hot to touch.

David Letterman was a very funny host. But think about it for a minute - he hired some very talented writers to come up with a lot of these zany ideas.

@80sEric Before he was on CBS, he had Barry White read the list, it was one of the funniest he ever did!
