CLASSIC CARS & more at AVRO HERITAGE MUSEUM!! ft. Avro 707 & Vulcan XM603.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Car show time! The Avro Heritage Museum at the former Avro manufacturing site in Woodford, Cheshire, holds several classic car events throughout the year. In April 2023 we decided to head over and see what cars would turn up. My steed for the day was our trusty MX5 Mk1, dad (a Trustee of the museum) was in his MGB GT, and we were joined en-route by a fine Lotus Cortina Mk1 which regulars on Old Classic Car might just recognise from previous videos.
The weather forecast was far from promising so we crossed fingers and hoped that there'd be plenty of classic cars turning up. Fortunately they did come and the car park was soon bulging with all manner of interesting old cars, most of which we hadn't seen before. Highlights include a wonderfully oily-rag 1927 Austin saloon, a rare pre-war Daimler 15hp coupe, a line-up of E-Type Jaguars, a pair of Austin A60 Cambridges (see thumbnail), an ice speedway racing 'bike, immaculate Ford Consul Mk2, and a black 1955 Standard 10 to name just a few.
In this video I take a close look at the cars that turned up, and also inspect the magnificent Avro Vulcan (registration XM603) that has lived at Woodford for many-a-year after being de-commissioned in the early 1980s. I also get a sneak preview of future exhibits for the museum, in particular a much-disassembled Avro Shackleton and a simply wonderful Avro 707C delta-winged development aircraft from the 1950s, both of which are destined to go on display with the museum's other exhibits when space allows.
Honourable mentions also in the video to an interesting ex-Rolls-Royce stirrup tyre pump (which came to the assistance of an MG TD owner), and a box of aged wheelnuts kindly donated to OCC HQ.
I hope this video is of interest, there are plenty of show walkaround videos like this sprinkled over the channel now so please take a look when you've watched this one.

Love the brief glimpse of the Orenda engine from the Canuck.
Narrator's knowledge of historical detail is stunning and not the least bit boring. Also camera technique is excellent such informative shots and steady camera panning - none of the usual amateur hosepiping the camera to make viewers dizzy and nauseous! So you get full 5 stars from me and I'm not even a classic car enthusiast!

Agreed a very smart car, this one had a slight problem with a leaking water pump so I hope it got home ok
Your dad's mgb grill is the earlier 71 to 73 version and the red B has the later, last version before the rubber bumper models. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
I remember working in Menzies Motors Stirling Donbros Knitwear were changing their Fleet of Austin A60s for New Austin 1300 Travellers 35 for 35 Pandemonium Orchard place was full off abandoned A60s 1969/70
My first car was a 1969 HB Vauxhall Viva that went so well that my second car was a 1974 HC Viva exactly like the 2 door model in the video, even the same colour. Here in New Zealand the colour was called "Maize". Sadly it was an utter lemon and should have been towed out to sea for navy gunnery practice. Loved the video and appreciated seeing a little of the museum too.

Thank you for wonderful walk around episode. My dad had 1962 (I think) Austin Cambridge Diesel way back in the early 1970s.
That looks like a great event, well worth a visit. Cheers Bob

Yesterday watched first time what I thought was two and a half hours of this… it was bloody riveting, then promptly lost the link grrr. Was hoping to see a Leyland P76 but not sure if they were in the Uk? By chance I found the link again and promptly subscribed. Thanks for a great post. Cheers from Melbourne Australia.

Hi thanks for calling by, no the P76 was never sold here although I did photo one at the big NEC classic car show recently, I think a picture of it went into a photo compilation that I did. Thanks for following the channel.
What a great line up there - something for everyone. HJ really missed a treat ! The Daimler 15 would be the one I'd take home, given the opportunity, but that Austin was a real treasure - lets hope it never gets 'restored', apart from keeping it on the road. Thanks Rick for all your work. Take care 🙂

I have a book on XH558-LAST FLYING V-FORCE AIRCRAFT farewell bow out tour, excellent read. Some really nice cars there I do love an E-Type and I think it would be difficult to choose between any of them at the show. That VW was really nice (the white one) I don't recall seeing one before though that may be down to my memory! So futuristic I think and a really great colour too. The old Daimler 15 was great as was the 'Barn find' Austin, was that the old farmer still in the back?😄 The HA Viva looked like it had a high compression engine as the block was red, the 'low' compression block was black. Also a HC Viva fully restored most of them are now a pile of rust sadly. Great to have a behind the scenes look at the aircraft soon to be on show to the public, having a Dad who is a Trustee pays dividends so we thank him for that. Thanks Rick for the video even with the down cast weather! 👍👍
Thanks for giving my HC Viva a ‘walk around’ …. they are still a bit of an underdog. Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work, very knowledgeable 👍😎

I used to do holiday cover at Woodford during Nimrod days. The big bulge underneath the fuselage was only fitted during final assembly. Before the airframe moved through the internal doors, what you saw was definitely a De Havilland Comet.
Thanks for the day out Rich. Very enjoyable, planes and cars how lucky are we ! You mentioned British innovations so just a shout out to Martin Baker injector seating in Denham. Founded by Sir James Martin and Captain Valentine Baker back in 1934 I believe. 🇬🇧 👍

In 1978 a Vulcan was here for the annual Chicago Air and Water Festavil. It was a magnificent aircraft to see but unfortunately it was destroyed on take off from Glenview Naval Air Station which was (now gone)about three miles down the road from us.
Cool. 🚗🙂
i can you tell me f the doors off the a60 are the same as the WOLSELEY 1660 DOORS GARY FROM CREWE
@oldclassiccarUK

I would imagine that the basic door assembly would be the same, perhaps with different drillings depending on exterior (and interior?) trim etc
That sounds like Mr Exakta to me. Hello John!

No this one came straight to Woodford c1982 after being withdrawn from use I think, thanks for watching
Thank you for another informative and interesting video. My preference would be an A60 or late Wolseley variant, tough as old boots and possibly the last solid car BMC/British Leyland produced. Whatever happened to all our automotive and aircraft manufacturing ?? 😢

I did show the Shadow 1 and the two-door R-R MPW that turned up later, so R-Rs definitely made it in although I tend to focus on the vintage and classic cars at any meet we attend. If you see the other show videos on here you'll note that I often say that not all cars in attendance at the events we visit make it into videos, either they are too new, I run out of batteries, or I simply forget to come back to them. In some cases they leave early (not in this case admittedly). The modern white VW made it in, briefly, because it was such an unusual sighting.
The VW at (22 10) I saw at a car show in Brittany France last year
Hi, the VC10 tanker has a probe on the front I wonder why if it was a tanker. Vulcans are my favourite aircraft of all time. As for my favourite Jaguar it is the black E Type followed closely by the bronze/ gold one. I do not like Ferrari as my ex- partner left me for a guy that owned one and then wanted to come back I promptly told her on ya prancing horse lady, lol. Thanks for the vid

Hi Terry, We (the 2x A60 owners) were told to park in those two spots by the organisers on the gate. Just obeying the instructions 🙂
Was that Joe 90 arriving in that white futuristic car? 😂 that's showing my age. Great to see the two Austin Cambridges, rare now as most and still are banger raced as they (the uneducated inbreds of society) will pay good money for them for banger racing. In the letter section of this months Practical Classic magazine shows a 1950s Sunbeam 90. A guy has purchased only to banger race. Written on the boot something like. One family owner car , great roadworthy condition, now banger raced. My money, my choice. Really upsetting to read. Enjoyable video Richard thank you.

Hi Peter, The grey A60 was mine. Member of the Cambridge Oxford Owners Club and provider of spares to the Classic car community. Please don't tar all racers (including me!) with the same brush. We are not all "uneducated inbreds of society" Indeed I am a professional Engineer having worked at Woodford back in the day. Any A60s we have raced, as a family have always been way beyond economic repair and have been donors. Lots of spares here if you ever need any 🙂. Kind Regards Gareth
