Levi ODonnell We had to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury for English class this year. I am not really interested in reading science fiction and I could not think of such a technical and dystopian society where the thinking of humans has changed. However, I love the themes expressed and they felt very powerful. I have also read Ray Bradbury’s short stories, All Summer in a Day, The Pedestrian, and The Veldt.

I would recommend, if you haven't read it, Anne of Green Gables. It is a beautiful story. It makes fun of the expecations of society in much the same was as Austen does. It is the story of an orphan named Anne who is adopted by an elderly brother and sister. They requested a boy to help on the farm but got Anne instead and they fall in love with her overactive imagination and dramatic personality. It's a beautiful, and hilarious coming of age story. Aw man, now I really hope you read it! I have so much love for this book!

You should definitely read The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I was also going to recommend The Secret Garden too because it's in my top 5 favorite books of all time. Ah, it's so good! I only just read it this year in Februray but I was familiar with the story because the movie was one of my favorites as a kid. The book is so much better!

There's actually a sequel to The Secret Garden. It's called Mistlewaite but it's written by a different author.

I love les miserables too, I'm reading second part right now and I would say it is the best book serie I've ever read, honestly. The picture of Dorian Gray is waiting on my shelf!

if you're looking for a short good classic, and when I say short, I mean short. The book is Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The book is around 100-110 pages. I highly recommend

+Ann Janel Penaflor I've started and given up on it more times than I care to admit. The unabridged version is a pain to read. Dickens' prose is unnecessarily convoluted and makes it difficult to keep track of all the characters and events.

You should read it! I read it and I really liked it. Although, sometimes it feels like the characters could be a little bit deeper. But Charles Dickens wasn’t really about that, he instead liked to use his characters to represent groups or ideas. Overall I thought it was a good book though.

I got SO excited when you mentioned The Outsiders! It's by far my favorite book. I was hysterically crying when Pony reunites with his brothers.

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell is one of my favourite classics!!!! I definitely gravitate more to children's classics because I find them so much easier to read! I get so confused with what is happening in a lot of classic novels especially from the Victorian time period

I enjoyed your recommendations, but I also just love the way you describe these books! I love the covers you have for Jane Austen's novels as well as Wizard of Oz. I was vaguely aware of The Borrowers being a book when I watched the film as a youngster, but I'd never taken the leap to seek it out. I've noted it down now to look out for in the future because I quite enjoy children's classics.

Really great video! I struggle with classics, so to see this made me want to try a few more (especially The Outsiders. Saw the movie and really enjoyed it) I would recommend the Giver, because it is an amazing dystopian with a really messed up world. And the characters are great. I have seen you mention it in a TBR, but I don't remember if you have read it or not, so if you haven't it's a great one!

I'm a huge fan of classics-thanks for this video! Some recommendations for you: The Count of Monte Cristo (super good!), The Lord of the Flies (easy read), A Clockwork Orange, The Importance of Being Earnest (super short & funny novella), The Grapes of Wrath, The Phantom of the Opera, Of Mice and Men.

I see The Night Circus on your TBR shelf and it makes me so sad because it is amazing!! It's one of the best books I have ever read and quickly made it into my top five.

The Outsiders is one of my favorite books of all time!!! SO GOOD!!!!!

Two of my favourite classics are The Great Gatsby and A Midsummer Night's Dream. :) I have to read The Outsiders, my class was the only one in my whole grade to not read it (so 30 of us out of ~500 kids) and everyone raved about it, including people who didn't enjoy reading. I saw a play performed in my city though that was really good, but I watched it 8 years ago so I've forgotten most of it. Cannot wait to get my hands on it (hopefully) soon!

I'm reading Pride and Prejudice next and you've just made me super excited for it, I didn't know that much about it but it sounds awesome :)

I have that edition of Pride & Prejudice, too, and Sense & Sensibility. They are gorgeous! I just got them in June (or July) and I haven't read them yet but want to get to one of them soon. I actually haven't read any Jane Austen, and since I haven't I decided to read her books in order of when they were written/published. I think it will be interesting to see how her writing evolves.

You should totally read Ana Karenina by Leon Tolstoi, The picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde (wich is one of my favorites) and The Lady of the Camelias by Alexander Dumas. I've read Great Expectations in high school and it's one of my favorite classics, so I'm definitely planing on reading everything else Charles Dickens wrote :D

My favourite classic and one of my favourite books of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. I was intimidated by it because I hadn't had great luck with classics before that, but it's narrated by a child and written in fairly modern language, so it's very easy to read, and on top of that it's creepy, nostalgic, emotional and sooooo heartwarming. Definitely give it a go if you haven't read it yet!

Do not want to imagine a world without books. F451 is awesome.

Love Jane Austen, Wizard of Oz, and Gatsby. Just purchased A Tale of Two Cities, and Fahrenheit 451 has been on my TBR for awhile. The Outsiders and The Borrowers are now on my TBR 😁

For me, the list would feature at least: The Magic Mountain (Mann) Don Quijote (Cervantes) Brothers Karamazov (Dostojevski) A Hundred Years' Solitude (García Márquez) Middlemarch (Eliot) The Master and Margarita (Bulgakov) Narcissus and Goldmund (Hesse) They probably don't quite qualify yet due to their cultish status, but also W. G. Sebald (Austerlitz; also too recent), Italo Calvino (If On a Winter's Night a Traveler) and Georges Perec (Life A User's Manual) are definitely up there.

This is a really great video, as usual! I borrowed Pride and Prejudice yesterday from the library and I'm required to read The Great Gatsby for my English Literature class so I will be able to tick two of these off soon :)

I got into Audio books towards the middle of last year and have almost exclusively been listening to the "classics". For Whom the Bell Tolls, Prisoner of Zenda (might be my favorite - if never read it, you must!), King Solomon's Mines, Dracula, The Mysterious Island being some of my favorites so far. Gave Moby Dick a try but just couldn't get into it; might try again later. Currently in the middle of The War of the Worlds.

Great choices, especially the Outsiders and Gatsby. I think I'll pick up Tale of Two Cities. I don't know if you've read Jane Eyre, but I'd definitely recommend that to anyone. It's a little long but the language is not that difficult.

our teacher called "The Socs" "the Socks" and I was so confused when I read because I say "Sosch" too, so I was like 'wait what socks is she talking about" (that was when i was 13 excuse my stupidity)

it is pronounced "sosch" because Soc is supposed to be short for socials so "sosch" is the pronunciation.

I don't read classic books that often but thank you for selecting classics that are easy to read because that's what I'm looking for. :)

I freaking love Pride and Prejudice, unfortunately, I haven't gotten to any other of Jane Austen's books but I will soon! As a classic, I would recommend William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. That is the book that opened me to a whole other universe of reading! I also recommend Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan. Not exactly classic but I was reminded of it when you mentioned The Borrower's for some reason.

You should read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. So far, this is one of my favorite classics so far and the Outsiders

I can totally recommend Chess Story by Stefan Zweig, it's an Austrian classic and soooo good and well-written!

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite children's classics. I love all the ones you mentioned, though! And I couldn't recommend Shakespeare more-- there are some amazing speeches and stories and ideas in those old plays. My favorites will always be Hamlet and As You Like It. Well, I think they will. I'm fifteen and I imagine I'll have a much different reading experience with all these classics when I'm older.

Have you read the other OZ books that Baum wrote? Though not as well known as The Wizard of OZ, I remember enjoying them a lot when I was younger and read them several times as my elementary school had the entire set. I loved the Borrowers too and borrowed it from the public library a lot.

I just bought emma recently! Now I'm excited to read it! I didn't quite understand the great gatsby and I think that was due to the fact that perhaps I missed out on a lot of the themes and motifs and stuff but I know alot of people loved it

I just started Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I’m only 40 pages in so I can’t say if I like it or not but I can tell that I will. And also I read The Wizard Of Oz when I was in fourth grade and I absolutely LOVED it
