I think your comment sums it up nicely. Dave can cover these tones coz he’s a great player. It all comes down to the player.

It sounds great, but a good tube amp would sound warmer methinks, and be more touch-sensitive.....or maybe I'm deluded and just like to see glowing tubes?

Hold my beer, and give me the cheapest Les Paul style guitar and a budget / mid-priced solid state amp
Dave, the man who can get any sound out of a piece of wood.
Great tones, loved the PG bit and as you said in your fantastic 'play like Peter Green' tutorials he was the 'loud to a whisper' master. Super super playing again, thanks for making my evening. Bless you!
Thank you so much for covering Roy. He was like a blues shredder meets Jack White flurry during his playing? It's hard to describe but I adore him. Your channel inspires everyday Dave, thanks!!!
Man you are just guitar everything. You play like a boss, fix them up and you are a tone chaser. I love it.
The peter green tone/playing was brilliant dave. The dynamics in your playing were spot on!
I freaking love my Katana 100! Such a beast and has amazing tones easily dialed in.
Best yt video on internet I've watched in a long time! Thanks Dave
Great stuff man! You´re the best part of youtube right now. Keep it up. Means a lot!
Loving the Yardbirds stuff , I remember my older brothers listening to those records and those songs are still in my head . Great playing as usual , thanks for the vid.
Man such great tones. Somehow you can make everything sound great
Cheers Dave -this was one of your best videos. Both in terms of the tones you extracted from the Katana but also your grasp of the very different play styles of the artists emulated. Still sounded like Dave but a very respectful nod to Eric, SRV, Roy and PG. Well done indeed.
I love it Dave! Over the years as I got better I came to appreciate your playing more and more. There are lots of guitar players on youtube where people are raving about their playing and I think to myself, “well, they’re not even average compared to our guitar heros”… But your playing is actually solid!
Dave I really want to thank you for getting me out of my depression and inspiring me to pick up my guitar again after 10 years. Bless you.
My blues band is playing "All Your Love" by the bluesbreakers right now, and all throughout your intro I couldn't help but think "this sounds just like All Your Love", only to find out later that thats exactly what you were going for. Spot on!
Killer tones, Dave. I'm with you, Roy Buchanan was amazing and very underrated.
Just proves to me Dave how much of the tone, and feel comes from the player! the gear is just there to get the sound out to audible level. A great musician like you can get the right sound from almost anything you pick up and plug into! Great vid Dave cheers awesome playing and tones!
I friggin love it when Dave does greenie ❤️ awesome ❤️
Cheers Dave! You're the first one that I've seen on KZread to attempt these elusive tones on a Katana. I think that you did a great job of it. BTW I've seen on some videos on the Katana is that there's a global eq setting available when you hook it up to a computer where you can attenuate the high frequencies and make the amp sound warmer overall should want to do that.
Dave! Love what you do. I hope things are going well for you.
You did a good job with Peter Green's tone, it is ethereal, very hard to nail down.
Ha Ha Ha! I started the stream with the volume OFF, and you still sounded great! Memory muscle muust have been in gear... and turning up the volume definitely did not disappoint!
The Stevie Ray sound was awesome Dave!!
Great video Mr S!… fabulous sounds wonderful katana!🙂🎸👍
sounds great Dave !
Excellent Dave. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant video Mr Dave, some excellent tones there, they really put you into the world of those artists. Your playing too, wonderful. Now I know that music isn’t a competition. I also know that it’s all subjective and personal. Well here’s my bit. I know who my greatest guitarist ever is. He comes from Louth and is called Dave Simpson! 👏👏👏
Really, really good, and the Peter Green too, nice tone.
Where has this chap Dave Simpson been all my guitaring life? (50 years and counting) Having just bought a Katana that's why. Great player and great tutorials. I've kicked my steam driven laptop back into action and plan to download that Tone Studio thing. Looking forward to my next gig with the Boss...
Yes Dave! SRV sounded spot on, starting to think I may need a Katana…………cheers buddy.

Yeah, the Stevie bit was wicked awesome.
Just got a new Katana and been having a blast with it ✌
Great vid Dave, sounded quality 👍. Got myself an Eastcoast LP based on your review (Purple burst 😈) Love it 🤘
Amazing guitar work.
Thanks Big Dave Great as usual man 👋👋✌️🎸🎸. Love your channel. Im sure many others feel the same way 💯
Roy Buchanan - one of my favs.

Loved Roy too!! Saw him do a bunch of amazing shows and made it look so easy!! Was extremely sad when he passed!!!!
Great clean tone 🎸👍
Dave nailed it!
Great video I learned a lot. I never considered the impact of the recording process on the original recordings. I had a blues cube artist for 7 years and recently sold it because I simply couldn't get it to work for me like I can my Carr Rambler. Seriously considering a katana as a practice amp now - as it seems to be everything the Blues Cube wasn't.
Great video and playing Dave. I gig with a katana mark 1 50 watt. Very versatile and plenty load. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks for a great video, you are a inspiration
Really inspiring Dave thank you. Due to your demo's and recommendations I bought a EastCoast L1 (Cherry Burst) which is a cracking good guitar for the price and a Boss Katana 50 Mk2 😀
I got a katana 2x12 50 watt, per your recommendation. LOVE! plugging in my LP Jr. and blowing the curtains off the windows! Thanks Dave!
Dave I love your videos this is one of the best you have done because I love the blues love the artist's you have covered there are many more obviously I've got the MK1 but couldn't find these sounds so I'm going to try to get them wish you had a second camera so could see the settings on the amp amazing as you haven't used anything but the amp hopefully you will do more guitarists sounds by using that amp
Nice tones and playin bro!
Always nail the Peter green tone Dave 🤙🤙🤙
Amazing playing.
Thanks, Dave. This is inspiring. Can we please have the Peter Green settings - it would help on the journey!
WOW! You are the only person on YT that has helped me get 3 useful tones out of the Katana! Thank you! The first 3 sound killer on a Les Paul. Any chance of sharing that Peter Green EQ?
What an intro, majestic
If I could get in the same Solar system as your tone Dave. Then I would be a Happy! I really liked today's Videos playing was really nice to listen to.
Hi mate great vid. Thats a coincedence, I have spend half of my day yesterday on creating the Beano sound on my Hotone Ampero Stomp II. I think i have nailed it as well....
Maybe you can put your settings in your comment Dave. I think a lot of listeners here would deeply apreciat this. And BTW you PG tone was super natural. So inspiring.

I say the settings in the video bar Mr Green. Which I forgot to do.
God bless you mate!
That’s a good point when recreating these tones you have to take into account microphones and EQ. I have a digitech Jimi Hendrix pedal where they recreated the songs on the record, I matched Little Wing on the Katana clean channel with the built in treble boost and it sounds double tracked so I added a 30ms delay and got pretty close
Dave your something else mate
When you did the Peter Green tone even if it was not exactly his it sounded delicious you had such a beautiful tone when you turn down the volume it got so sweet beautiful job
It's an absolutely great workhorse of an amp and a much better value than any tube amp I can think of, and this is due in part to its solid-state design and all the extra tone shaping you can do with the Boss Tone Studio, which is awesome. I'd definitely get it with the pedal to switch between the channels and settings, etc. But it's a very plug and play amp. That's why the Katana is so popular. And the 50 watt is more than adequate. It's VERY loud and clear. I expect this line to stick around and keep developing in new, wonderful ways.
Would love to see you do some more videos like this for other artists on the Boss Katana. I’m sure you could get close to a JF tone without the requirement of pedals, and some other excellent artists, nice work! 👍🏻🙌🏻

Dave did a video for the original Boss Katana a few years back where he covered lots of tones and gave the settings. I think he included JF’s tone. It’s well worth checking out.

@@chrischamberlain2168 I’ll be sure to dig it up, just would be nice to see an updated series of videos I think using the new katana and focusing on certain artists with each video 🙌🏻
Definitely going to get me either the 50 or the 100 of this amp! Super satisfied with all the tones it offers
Great stuff as usual, absolutely fantastic, please make a video on the Peter Green and trying to replicate it
I've had a katana 100 head for years and didn't know it could do that. I always used it for metal and my tube amp for clean to overdrive tones.
Love it! Do you know, I used to be so naive about the way You Tube content is made, I used to think "I hope Dave's okay he's been wearing that same top for weeks... " LOL
The bluesbreaker tone worked a treat the katana 100mk1 is one of the best amps ever so pleased I own one
Think this is my second "listen" ?? and enjoyed (?) again ! Good comments as usual... Cheers !
The Boss Katana is hard to beat. I've had mine a few years now and i play it exclusively. My other amps are just getting dusty. Its light and gigable and has amazing tonality. I' a big fan.
Damn that intro was amazing
It is great that you can get this out of one box. Not sure if it an fx box with amp & speaker or otherwise 😅 You made the Katana sing. Stay awesome Dave 🤠
I do like the Katana but diffinitly the 2x 12 100 watt combo for low end preferences! I would I have to say! You are the bluesman Dave u rock dude if I ever get to the 🇬🇧 iam for sure looking for the Trio first thing for live music man🎸🎛🥁😃
Great playing as always, Dave. Would love to hear you demo the UAFX Dream 65.👍
Getting the exact tone of Clapton on 'Beano' is impossible. But one can get close. Dave gets close enough for me. Even if one had the same guitar, the same amp, the same room, the same recording equipment; it would still be impossible. In fact I don't even think that Clapton could replicate that sound, even if he wanted to.
I have KTN 100 MKI but didn't manage to create tone with full satisfaction. Probably I haven't spent enough time trying, but your video encourages me to start again. I must admit your settings look really strange to me, brown channel..no gain.. etc, but it works. Anyway, thanks, well done!
Because I neeeeeed those Peter Green settings so baaaaad!
Love that sound. Reminds me of black keys kinda
The Katana is indeed a mighty beast. But Dave is mightierer
All great but, the Green tone, especially on the slower blues, gorgeous.
These sound great Dave! I cannot wait to get home and try them. Any chance of going after a Billy Gibbons tone?
In a different time, with another type of audience ready to listen, Dave would have been a well-known name on the guitar scene. Alas, we don't live in that kind of time anymore and the audience is no longer around.
Didn’t tell the settings on the Green tone. I might be having a panic attack. Always a blast hanging with your channel

I wouldn't trade my Katana MKii 100, for any other amp. It's serves me better than any other ever has.
The holy trinity is Hendrix, Green and Clapton in my book and Clapton was a major part of my musical youth. Even now when I pick up the guitar people say ah Clapton ! You have a lot of his tricks nailed so you are much better at imitating him than you give yourself credit for (especially as you have to avoid copyright !). I have tried hard not to want a Katana - looks like I have failed.
Ace playing and tone settings Dave, What were your Peter Green settings?
Roy Buchanan was such a great guitar player!!!
It's been a while since I listened to "All Your Love" but I think you did get pretty close to the sound. Either way, you had a good tone. ✌️🇦🇺
Hats off to you Mr Simpson 👏 🙌 👍. It looks like you had fun. I don't remember if the MK1 had a selection of pedals like the MK2 has? I wonder if their TS9 would be good for Stevie as a drive? Did you get on to tone studio for any of your tones? I thank you so much for what you did. Fantastic job sir! May I ask where you had your master volume set? I've got a mk2 100 head and the 2x12 cab and I'm heading to it right now to use some of your settings. Thank you my brother in tone!
Having pedals is a lot of fun. Having guitars & amps are a lot of fun. However, one good guitar(subjective) straight into a good amp, is really all one needs. The rest is up to the player.
Very nice! I just got a Boss Pocket GT off of Gear Pages, very nice device.

I have a Boss Katana-Air now also, you are right @Dave Simpson , the Katana is the easist amp to dail in tone with, you can almost do everything just on the panel setting, without getting into the app, but the app and the sound effects make it even more amazing! I got the wireless footswitch so I can use an expression pedal for a wah/volume pedal, and I can switch off and on effects are change channels, and these also work on the Boss Pocket GT, which is awesome. I never plan on performing, so I think I am set, even though I have amps that I could gig with if I wanted to.
Love this! Been looking for a good Beano tone, this is the best Ive heard. Gonna start trying to replicate it today. One question: any OD pedal added, or just the drive from the Brown channel?
Excellent tones Dave. Thanks for showing us the possibilities of the mighty and versatile Katana. Great job. 👍 Can these tones literally be dialled in from the Katana panel?
@thedavesimpson

Yep
I'd love to hear you trying the same Peter Green setup only with a set of Monty's Bethnal Green pickups, that would make for interesting viewing to see just how much of a difference those pickups make to getting closer to his tone?
Dave is the only man that could pull this off, you are awesome! Also why didn't you use the Artist? After watching your videos I decided to buy a Katana and I'm between the 100 and the Artist. Is the Artist worth the extra money?
Another great strangling tone tutorial vid, Dave. Is the Katana just simply the best all-arounder of the decade? Or ever?
@thedavesimpson
Жыл бұрын
Very possible.
RHCP are touring here in Australia at the moment sent you a video on instagram of a Darth Vader busker playing under the bridge for concert goers after a concert haha
Pickup selector switches on SRV was INSANE
I have the Katana 50 and will continue to do so until they make a version with tubes.
I'd rather like Dave to try playing the Cream song, 'Dance the Night Away.' Which is one of my favourites. Eric is playing a twelve string on the track too. Actually, thinking about it. I think his playing on the studio half of 'Wheels of Fire' is pretty awesome and well worth investigating.
Conclusion: Black Boss Katana can do what Black Magic Woman can. Good Video Thanks Dave
Such a great tone out of the katana again. Dave did you use the clean or crunch or.... for SRV? Unfortunately you did not use your Artist ;-) Thanks man
Great tones out of the Katana! Makes me want to go out and get one, except that I briefly had a Katana 50 and thought it sounded closed, sterile and processed with an unpleasant midrange honk I couldn’t EQ out. Maybe not enough time on the brown mode.🤔

Simples really. You can get great tone out of the Clean channel by cranking the Gain - the Volume should be dimed, anyway on everything, EQ should be back pedaled on Treble and Bass; turn up the Presence to compensate. Alternatively turn down the Gain and crank up the booster (on "Green") there is more than one way to skin a cat. I saw Fleetwood Mac in the Studio with Mike Vernon and they were all using Orange amps to record "Albatross". Go figure! Good luck, Pete.
I would love to hear if the CR120 can do First Album and Rio Grande Mud era Billy Gibbons, and Mick Taylor's Stones era tone like on Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.
Lets just say it was the combination of Peter and the guitar. And yes it is illegal :D But you got very close, it sounded a lot like live peter and love your volume control.
