Classic 1970 Vw Camper Bus restoration. 'Day 11 - cab door repair'
The continued restoration of the door and frame for the 1970 bay window bus.
So at some point along the line, probably more so when the projects are near completion, I’m hoping that I’m a lot better at documenting and filming by then that I can put together a full episode/short film, or a maybe a small series that will cover the journey throughout the restorations, hopefully highlighting in a lot more detail of what is/was involved. For this I’d like to included questions from those that have watched. So before it’s too far in to these builds, I would like to start collating questions from here on out. This shall be a long term project, something I want to take my time (when allows) doing. ‘Anything you want to ask, anything you’d like me to cover, include, anything’...

I just pop around your videos, first thing i notice is how much your welding has improved from this vid to your current ones. You should see mine, you would cringe! Little by little im getting encouraged to do my drivers side rear wing. Thanks for all your videos, there all awesome!

A little better over time...although I thought I was back to square one the other day when tacking something together, wasn’t welding properly at all, until I discovered I must of knocked the settings on the front of the machine. It was on the lowest setting for stitch weld so I wasn’t getting a continuous wire feed. Very stressful up until the point I noticed it...my advise is to jump at it and give it a go. Everything’s fixable right! 😄have a good weekend..
I have replace the inner and outter lower cargo door frame and skin's have yet to do a full door. Your method and work's looks spot on to me. Had a bit of a delay on my bus project --goal is in the next two weeks getting back to it. I found when you are pull away for a while it take's time to get back in the zone or mind -set at nibbling away at it.

Dan Love sometimes it's good to step away though, especially when it ain't going as well as you hoped. I think making the videos for my channel has helped to be honest. I can review what I have done, and see where I'm at during the editing process. I may do some on the bug soon though, as I've been pretty constant on the bus. Need to change things up for myself a bit... Hope to see some more vids from you soon.

Rusty glove box Gave you a shout out so I clicked his link to your channel. I just subbed and watched 12 videos and can't wait for more. I love your metal fab. that door corner came out beautiful. A grinding wheel will get the welds knocked down faster. Enjoyed the car show.

Yeah all the best with it mate. I found there weren't a great deal of reference online with regards to door repairs. Sort of went in blind. Maybe that's why it took so long...😂

There's a brief mention of it in Fletch's book, and some others have done it on the late bay, but it seems most just replace the doors. Bit of a shame.

never heard of fletch? Yeah most do seem to replace the doors. They are proper pricey those new items. And most 2nd hand items still require repair i found...

Vw Rosstorations The T4 is my old work van, but what I'm hoping to do is sell my transit camper van (I built a few years back) to fund the T4 as I want to have a pop top fitted and they don't come cheap. Also I plan a Golf tdi conversion on it as it's very underpowered as it is, but that a big project in its self.

wear eye protection mate .my mate almost lost his eye when a shared of steel stuck in hindsight eye and he had his specs on to. prevention is better than cure

Yeah learnt the hard way, three times to a&e so far on this build for metal in the eye..😏
