    Hi, what kind of strokes/technique/pressure are you using when removing flashes and overhang using #12 blade? Would a chunk of restoration fall off by any chance?

  • @mentaldental

    @mentaldental

    3 жыл бұрын

    We use firm, controlled pressure with the scalpel blade. The most important part, though, is the angle of the blade. If you direct the blade too far outward you won't contour anything, and if you direct the blade too far inward you can scratch and gouge the composite. Finding the ideal angle is key.

  • @mentaldental

    I believe this was A2. Selecting the correct shade is an art that should be done with a shade guide in natural light. You can even dry cure a dot of composite on the tooth to confirm your selection before using it.

    We recommend using water throughout the preparation and restoration process to reduce risk of thermal injury to the pulp. The reason we don’t use it in any of these videos is to allow for better visualization of the procedure.

    Rubber dam is the standard of care for root canal treatments, which requires isolating the accessed tooth from the rest of the mouth, but they can also be used here! Most dentists don’t use rubber dams for fillings anymore because they are a bit more time consuming. Even so, some sort of isolation (rubber dam, isodry, cotton rolls) is necessary to provide access, control any contaminating fluids, and protect the soft tissue from injury.
