    I failed this practical and have to retake it next week, I am so scared :( this video has been helping so much. I rewatch and drill along and it is helping so much. I have ordered the 245 bur to work on making the box the proper height and convergence. What do you recommend for getting rid of lips on the very edge of the walls and the edge of gingival floor, just the hatchet? Even when I excessively sharpen mine it chips off too much and the wall breaks off or I get sharp irregularities. I've tried everything.

  • @StevensonDentalSolutions

    @StevensonDentalSolutions

    2 жыл бұрын

    Make the lip very thin. Make sure your sharpened edge is at 45 degrees and not more acute.

    I read that the width of the occlusal cavity should accommodate the smallest condenser. Can you please explain if it means that the smallest condenser should sit on the floor of the cavity or should just the tip pass freely? Thanks

  • @StevensonDentalSolutions

    @StevensonDentalSolutions

    2 жыл бұрын

    Just the tip pass through the opening of the convergent occlusal. However, this statement is a rather vague and inaccurate guide, not an absolute requirement. To wit, the Oregon #1 condenser is 0.6 mm...would this now become the proper width if you have an Oregon #1? Best recommendation is to establish a 1.0 mm wide isthmus. This will meet the standards of all schools and exam boards in the US.

    Hi! Instead of using an enamel hatchet to remove the enamel shell, can a explorer be used? We’re doing 2nd class cavities right now and they don’t provide hatchets for us, only a mirror and a explorer... :( Is it still possible? I don’t know how else to do it, the undermined areas are killing me

  • @StevensonDentalSolutions

    @StevensonDentalSolutions

    2 жыл бұрын

    Nearly impossible to do without a chisel of some kind. You may be able to use a narrow bur at and angle to remove the undermined area, but be mindful of hitting the adjacent tooth, and even when you don't hit the adjacent tooth the extension (clearance) will be over-extended. Really a shame that your school fails to understand the importance of hand instruments.

    Hello Dr.Stevenson, For composites do we make the same prep? If so, then does the axio-pulpal line angle need to be bevelled?

  • @StevensonDentalSolutions

    Smaller prep - rounded line angles, flares okay, depth about 1.25-1.5 mm, and yes an AP bevel as well. Thank you for the question.

    hi, can i ask how to get your lingual and buccal walls convergent? Is it all from a convergent bur or do you need to tilt the bur too. If so, which bur is best to create convergence, thanks a lot

  • @StevensonDentalSolutions

    @StevensonDentalSolutions

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi I’d recommend a 245 for the box and 330 for the occlusal. When refining, use an 330RGS, and never a straight fissure bur. This approach will keep the walls convergent
