    @ImpalamansGarage I have a 1998 Discovery Fleetwood 37ft diesel (same engine and transmission). I have no power (12v signal) to the dash at all, however I have power to the lights in the RV. I'm not seeing a fuse buss block like what you found with all the corrosion. Any idea where else I can look as my under carriage is rusty so I feel it's corrosion related.

    Thank you for your post. I have a 1990 Safari Serengeti and I knew that the battery was no good. Once I replaced my battery got a no go on starting the engine. You post was the first one I watched and it gave me the courage to try and diagnose my problem. I was fortunate that it was a 12v 30 amp fuse to the battery isolator. Replaced and started the engine woohoo!!!

    Thank you so much for the help, advice, etc. I'm working my way through a similar issue you were pointing out. I can recall if, at the beginning of your video, if you had no reading at the shifter control panel. Mine has been an intermittent problem , and now no crank is normal. I've done many of the basic tests. Freightliner is leaning to what they call TCM. I call it the control module. My display showed no neutral light when the key is turned on. Then, a moment later goes to O this then a Starburst in the center. I'll keep at it. Thanks again, Jim

    My shift control pad was never lighting. Initially, I did not notice that when I first started the troubleshooting process. It should light up with no error codes. If yours does have error codes, I would check the TCM for sure. In my case, the control pad was simply dead, a sign that the TCM was not getting power.

    The first thing I would check is the chassis power switch to make sure it is in fact working and that the relay it activates is working. I've no idea where it is on you RV. Mine is in the rear left to the rear of the battery compartment. I would start from there and begin tracing wires.

    Great video ,when you turn key ignition were u getting error code on allison pad or wasn't lighting up or was it normal ? Like to know what led you to believe it was the transmission module ? Thanks for the help

  • @ImpalamansGarage

    @ImpalamansGarage

    The shift control pad was simply not illuminating. The control pad is supposed to light up when you turn on the ignition. If it does not, the transmission control module is not activating or the shifter control pad is bad. This was a very tough problem to track down, mostly due to my lack of experience. To be honest, I did not realize that the control pad was not lighting up until after several days of troubleshooting. After doing a lot of research and reading I checked, and sure enough, it was not coming on.

    Ok understood, thats what I thought would happn with these allison pad if it doesn't light up or show error code most likely it would be transmission module or electrical within that system . I was asking because I had similar issue with my diesel pusher I just purchased turn on ran fine drove it home.now won't start won't crank nothing ? Allison pad does lights up so its normal so that rules that out im thinking ethier start solonoid or starter is bad has 8.3 cummmins mechanical

    I had similar issue but my pad was lit and code read low tcm voltage, turns out my chassis batteries were discharged due to faulty combiner relay. I start my engine and run everything from from the house batteries ( or so I thought until I found out the transmission is powered from the chassis’s batteries

    If you are thinking that possibly this issue on my RV was in fact due to a faulty battery connection or battery, that was the first thing I checked. All battery connections were cleaned with anti-oxidant applied. Plus the batteries are new anyway.

    I have a 96 Gulfstream Voyager 5.9 Cummins. I have a panel as you enter the Motorhome which has 4 switches. They all essentially send power to either the chassis or to the coach. The first switch is on and off. The 2nd is a 3 way switch ? and the last 2 are coach and chassis. Could the starter relay, having corroded connections, cause these switches to have no power to them?

  • @ImpalamansGarage

  • @elevenbravoP

    Yes. The panel is not functioning. I ordered a 12v probe tester to start checking. A few months ago when I replaced the batteries, everything worked fine. After setting unused for a few months, it no longer works. I will check the battery solenoids first.

    What would cause an rv to have auxiliary power, but when trying to start, it instantly kills all power, doesn’t crank, and auxiliary stops working. Auxiliary will start working if I disconnect the battery terminals and reconnect them?

  • @ImpalamansGarage

    @ImpalamansGarage

    Жыл бұрын

    When you say "auxilary power" precisely what are you referring to? Are you attempting to crank your coach engine using emergency power obtained from the house batteries? Not sure what your scenario is. One thing is for certain, loose connections will drive you nuts, especially grounds. If you've not done so I would check all your ground connections in the power system. If you read anything other than 0 ohms of resistance in the ground circuit that is a problem. Also if you read anything other than the precise battery voltage at an point along the power distribution circuit that is a problem. That means there is a poor connection with high resistance along the way.

    It may be as simple as power to the dash. Assuming you're on a Freightliner chassis, I'd recommend contacting your closest Freightliner service center. They can tell you which branch services motorhomes in your area. Had my dash AC repaired at one of their facilities recently. I know it's expensive but it will get fixed and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

    @@anthonyborilll3369 Very few things on any sort of road going vehicle run on something other than 12 volts. (an ignition coil uses 9v and I think some temp gauges need a resistor to drop down the voltage) However it sounds to me like you have a broken power wire somewhere. Take that power lead to the dash gauges that reads 6 volts and see it it will light a test light. I've guessing it won't. Your voltage meter can tell you what voltage is on that wire but you have no way of knowing how much current that connection is capable of delivering. Hook up a test light and see what happens. I suspect nothing. At that point you will need to trace that power wire down through the RV and find out where the break is. I used an audible tone tracer for my issue.

    I don't know what that was all about but I agree with you wholeheartedly. Electricals = ZZZZZ. Lol When are you actually going to show us your RV? Is that an inline 6? Is it 2 or 4 stroke? I guess you have airbrakes. Is it airride also? I watch bus grease monkey so I'm interested in RVs and bus conversions. Of course he deals with Detroit diesels so if you showed up at his place in Tennessee he'd probably chase you away with a shotgun. Lol. Just kidding. Glad you found the problem and it really didn't cost you anything except the ignition switch which you didn't even need.
