    Clarence is one of the very few shows that realistically and perfectly captured the chaotic and creative nature of a child's mind (its opening song is so perfect). I'm so sad that people didn't see Clarence for the greatness that it is and was only focused on how unappealing its character designs or art was.

    The part where Clarence gives away all his toys and stuff until his room becomes totally empty reminds me so much of how I dealt with my sadness in early elementary school. The totally irrational feeling that you don't deserve objects that make you happy is so freakishly familiar.

  • @HoDoBoDo
    @HoDoBoDo2 жыл бұрын

    During Primary School (Middle School), I was basically like this because all the teachers were assholes, and never tried to see why I was like this sometimes...only a few teacher's made me happy, but most of them didn't know I was autistic and treated me horribly, for the way I acted. I love this episode, because Clarence in the end of the day finally gets a teacher to understand him (Ms Baker), and she finds his lil buddy for him again. I know autism is pretty normal thing, but for some reason growing up I didn't find other people who were autistic like me till Secondary School (High School), so it was really hard essentially being the only odd one out. I like how "Clarence" shows the struggles of kids who are different like Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo growing, because they all clearly have some type of autism too, and aren't really understood as well. I could see a bit of myself in all 3 of them.

    This song is completely giving me Toy Story vibes. The song that is being played(wierd stuff is going on) is obviously highly influenced and inspired from the song "strange things" which is played in Toy Story when Andy starts favoring Buzz over Woody. Even the names of the songs are very similar. Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate that. Two songs full of confusion and the relationship with a kid and his toy.

    To those who don't know the context: In the playground, Clarence was mostly in trouble for freaking out a child with his doll, Clarence had 5 minutes of time out but was sacred that if he gets up he'll receive 5 more minutes, Time was already passed and got back up, However playtime was up already and time to go back into the school building, At home, Clarence for some reason was mad at his own doll and broke it by accident, Then went into some kind of forest near by and buried it, And so this is where this now happened. Also don't worry, There's still a good ending to this.

    Unrelated to the Lil Buddy episode specifically, BUT I tried watching Clarence again as an adult, and it is an absolutely fantastic watch. Even though my younger-self was a very different kid from Clarence, there are so many aspects about him that just remind me SO much about my childhood! He feels like such an accurate depiction of an oblivious, big-hearted child, I think most people can relate to him in some capacity. I wholeheartedly believe this show was a bit ahead of its time, and that if it aired today, perhaps it would see more appreciation. I know the show gets criticized a lot for its gross-out moments, but I honestly don’t think they take away from the show that much. I also think a lot of the time, the gross-out moments serve somewhat of a purpose, usually to help us get in the mind frame of Jeff, understand why some people are more particular and uptight, to hopefully become more sympathetic to those types of people… Exaggerating the grossness of things to show that while some things are not a big deal to most people, they can be incredibly stressful and nauseating for others. Although the creator of Clarence turned out to be a bad man, I think this show still deserves appreciation. After all, it’s thanks to the hardwork and dedication that the hundreds of staff members working on Clarence put into the show that it has so much personality. :)

    i swear jeff was so relatable to me as a kid, i wasnt as clean as him and my head also didnt look like it was shaped by those japanese watermelon boxes, but he had some OCD-like tendencies. it was also cool seeing all the representation for different households! i used to love the show too and maybe i should give it a re-watch. i even remember clarence being kind to the people who collected the neighborhood's garbage and it was acknowledged they didn't get the respect they deserved usually and despite clarence bothering them on the surface they found him endearing. little moments like that were so cute.

    I fucking identify to this. From one day to another things suddenly change and start going worse and worse. You start feeling bad af and the people around don't understand you and don't want to understand you, which is worse. So you get to a point where you're fed up of shit and you start doing drastic changes. You don't give a fuck about what people will think, you just change cause you wanna get out of that fucking cave where there ain't light and faith. This state of mind is one of the few that correlates the mental and the physical individual. When you meet somebody going deep down through this shit you can see that his body is just a reflection of what's going on inside his head.

    I feel like the teachers and other students care in this episode, they just have no idea what the heck is making Clarence act this way. It shows when they help fix what happened with his little buddy by the end of the episode. You're right though, public school systems aren't built to handle depressed kids. As a teacher, I have over 125 students that I need to meet their specific individual needs every day, and I just can't. I do my best, but there's only so much one person can do for a kid in a 40-minute class period, especially for the ones I don't know how to help. For some, it seems impossible because there's no one else to give them that support for the 95% of the rest of the day I don't see them, including when they're at home. I guess, like, I'm saying that I'm sure not all public schools aren't tossing them on purpose. I know I try my best to give the kids whatever positive attention I can while they're in my room, and I know several of my co-workers who do the same (not all, there are definitely ones who are selfish). There's so many people who care about kids that go into this line of work, the system in of itself is just so broken and dysfunctional.

My dad realized I wasn’t joyful anymore but didn’t help me out much. It really sucks to think about how there was a time when I was stress free and happy and it all got taken from me when I was 12 and I never returned to being care free and happy. Now I’m probably going to live my life stressed out and maybe I’ll rest when I die.

Something would happen where I’d get the blame but the teachers were at fault and they never fixed what was wrong. I’ve had times where I’d act like this. I’m pretty sure I had depression when I was a kid and it was kind of like this. (Not a great home life, bullying, jerk teachers, etc) So yeah.. pretty accurate I’d say.

    After reading Ansel's comment in the comment section, I can't believe this is a Toy Story reference to Randy Newman's songs! 😰 I grew up with Clarence before I was in my early 20s right when Steven Universe first aired when I was 19 and seeing Clarence depressed for the first time is 101% relatable! For anyone that doesn't know how clinical depression is like, it's EXACTLY how Clarence acts! You would... 1.) Feel exhausted all the time. 2.) Feel a little irritated yet drowsy. 3.) Feel dull and numb to do anything. Those are 3 things you should know what depression is like as it's way more than being sad as it's also an emotion that I can't believe is relatable to Steven from Steven Universe before he turned into that GIANT Pink Monster! No wonder the older Cartoon Network Era of the mid-2010s were so much better as they expressed so much about mental illnesses which is creepy for me to know how much I miss both of these shows let alone Adventure Time. 😁
