I love this story because she didnt just go directly from the womb to skating or biking she started later and it really gives me the confidence that its not too late to start.
"This beautiful thing called trying" 😍
It made me tear up (in a positive way), that even though she has won multiple olympic medals, for her, her most important accomplishment isn't that, but being an advocate for mental health.
One of our greatest athletes! She makes Canada proud with all she's accomplished!
can you imagine getting to the national team and your team mates being like 'how long have you been skating?' 'only seven weeks' they would be so mad

"Don't hate the player, hate the game." All sports require varying degrees of skill and fitness. Something like Golf depends almost entirely on skill (hence why old, fat guys can win the masters) while sports like running, rowing and cross-country skiing lean heavily on fitness. While fitness is achieved through training, every individual has a "maximum fitness potential" limited by genetics, and some people just hit the genetic lottery. I always think of the story my Dad told me about his college friend Eric. During orientation, the Crew (i.e. "rowing team") coach told Eric he should try out for the team for the simple fact that he was an athletic 6'5". So Eric, despite having never rowed once in his life, ended up making the team, was rowing 1st boat by spring of freshman year (for a top-10 D-1 team), and in just four years went on to win a silver medal at the Olympics.
I don't know if Clara will ever read my comment. If you do, Clara, I just want to thank you, truly, for having made yourself into who you are. You are a beautiful and powerful person; you are very inspirational because you wanted to do something with yourself although you did not have much, and did so. Thank you, Clara.
Life is not about being perfect, it is about trying, she is right. There is something beautiful about a struggling human being which is better than his her problems.

WOW! I knew she was an Olympic athlete, but,I didn't know that story about being depressed! And her giving back like she is. Beautiful woman with a heart of gold.
My favorite speedskater from another country. What a joy to watch her win gold the way she cheered made me cry. That someone could be so filled with joy gave me hope. And now that i see she is doing so many good things for mental health awareness and that she struggeled with it herself makes me understand my connection with her. What an amazing women!!!
first time to hear anybody could win medals in both summer and winter Olympics

Christa Luding-Rothenburger took several medals in winter olympics in speed skating and one in track cycling aswell during 80's.
Her personality exudes such positivity and hope! Clara you're an inspiration to me. I hope to meet you someday and thank you for the difference that you made in my life. God bless you.

Such an inspirational example of winning in sports and in life. Honesty is always a victory: "It's not about medals, it's about excellence!" Absolute awesomeness!!!!
This is my favourite athlete. A true role model and great story. Legend.
Thank you Clara ... for helping me get up and face another day today. I've struggled all my life with this. Thank you.

THANK. I CRY AND FEEL BETTER PERSON TO KNOW HER HISTORY. WOW.
Where do these people find the motivation and energy to achieve this level of transformation? Almost unbelievable!
The bit at 8:13 where she rides her bike on the snow is my birth place and home town called 'Nain'. A group of us painted and constructed the " Flat Bed " for her so she can still complete her AMAZING journey. Inspiration to all
I didn't know about this lady before, but am so glad I came across this video. Clara Hughes is truly an inspiration. I thank her for what she has done in sports and off the field. Keep going strong!
All I want is to get to the Olympics, somehow, someway, someday. I started my sport impossibly late, but I want to do it. I'll prove it isn't about starting when you're four, it's about determination and passion

What a legend! Impressive to go compete at that level in multiple disciplines
Wow ... I’ve seen so many amazing and inspiring Olympic stories but this has got to be the most cathartic and inspiring one of them all.
Excellent. One of the most inspirational things I've seen. She's learned such wise attitudes. That quote at 4min 18 to 4min 24- "excellence and a beautiful thing called trying."
Beautiful story. I'm so touched and inspired by her. What a life story.
these Olympic videos are so inspiring, can use their stories to help you in any aspect of your life. thanks!
The best video of "Legends live on", the first athlete who says "It's not about medals" and really means it. Clara is my great inspiration, thank you very much!
