Claire's COVID-19 Recovery Story

In this short video, Claire Fazio shares her story of recovery from COVID-19. Both Claire and her husband contracted the coronavirus in March and received care at Penn Medicine Princeton Health. Claire reflects on her experiences and members of her care team offer their thoughts on caring for patients during the pandemic and the feelings of hope that the clinical team experiences when a COVID-19 patient is able to be discharged to home.

I was up all night crying with shortness of breath, cough and my esophagus and chest burning and painful . Today I was recouping from the long night of not much sleep, so a bit tired. I have had zero smell and taste since yesterday. Today it’s mostly chest problems with the headache slightly coming back. Hoping I don’t get any other symptoms!

What none of these videos tells you is the lingering effects after you get out of the hospital. I was in ICU for 5 days after I got pneumonia. After I got home, I had bouts of nausea, dizziness, and am so weak I get out of breath walking to the bathroom and back. The biggest thing nobody mentions is how COVID can mess with your head. I've had to go on anxiety medication because of night terrors and panic attacks. This virus attacks everything, even your freaking brain.

@@Trulocsystem i feel like somethi g is lodged like in my chest when i first had complications with my breathing i felt it. It feels like to me like a piece of something but i dont always feel it. I didnt have the corona virus that bad in the beginning i had the fevers, all bad bowels movements and a dry cough and no taste or smell for about 4 days and i got better but i was isolated couldnt leave the house my girlfriend drank and slept next to me every night and she didnt get sick. Its weird. But i cough through out the day and to be honest i wasnt coughing that much when i had it now its bad but then again i quit smoking right before i got it maybe by lungs are just healing but from what ive read it saying if u had it mild as far as breathing issues ur lungs are a little damaged and are now scarred which i believe mine are i get pains here and there but its bad.
