CLACK WS1 DUAL Tank WATER SOFTENER PROGRAMMING
Do you want to learn how to program the Best settings for your DUAL Tank Water Softener utilizing the Clack WS1 Valve? A Twin Tank water softener has many advantages to a single tank but how does the programming differ? Maybe you’ve recently invested in one of our HUM Twin Tank water softeners and want to confirm the settings? If you want to learn how to setup your Clack WS1 Dual tank water softener, I’m going to show you how starting right now!
Just so you know, there are lots of water filtration companies that use Clack WS1 valves in various versions but brand them as something else, like we do with our HUM water tannin filters. These valves are used by Water Depot, Nelsen, Viqua and lots more. How can you tell if yours is a Clack valve? Don’t look at the front, check the valve body and bypass behind the faceplate to see if yours has the round injector port on the top, as well as the “E” clips for the brine and drain line connections to help identify if yours is a Clack WS1 Also, the bypass has very distinctive red, arrow shaped handles. If yours looks like this, you have a Clack WS1 valve and what we are talking about here today applies.
By the way, the valves have a QR code inside the faceplate which you can scan with your smart phone to take you to the basic manuals. I have links in the description below to the more in-depth manuals.

Why a twin tank? They give you soft water 24/7 because when one side is regenerating the other side is still softening your water. This can be beneficial for 24 hour restaurants but also if you have a whole house or commercial reverse osmosis system you can be sure you are getting soft water to the system all the time. Before proceeding you need to know:
1) How many cubic feet of media you have in each tank? Grains/30,000. For example if you have Twin 60,000 grain you have 60,000/30,000 = 2 cubic feet
2) Calculated gallons by knowing the following, how many cubic feet of media, compensated hardness.
The number of cubic feet of media = the size of each tank in grains/30,000
Example: Twin 60K - 27 gpg compensated hardness
2 cubic feet times 24,000 = 48,000
Divide 48,000 by the hardness or 27 = 1,777
Multiply 1,777 by .9 = 1,600 Calculated Gallons

Hi Gary, Thank you for making this video I couldn't find anything near to this detail. I have a dual tank system that has two Clack WS1 valves with different interfaces. Should I set both valves with the same settings or will they be different?

I am not familiar with the two vwlve setup but yes, I think you are correct.
Thank you very much for your knowledge. If the softener is dual and but has has induvidual programming valves. One is with MAV cable but the other without. How will you set it?

Similar to the video, you would need to calculate the capacity and set it accordingly.

Good evening Gary, I have a clack ws1 with a 1 cube tank. Could I use my same valve on a 2 cube tank? I'm currently having an issue with iron bleeding into the water. Was tested at 9ppm at well only 1 ppm at tap. Was thinking of either adding a breaker or upgrading softener. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Yes, you can use the same valve on the larger tank but 9 ppm of iron is beyond what a water softener can handle. You need an iron filter like this waterestore.com/products/hum-chemical-free-iron-sulphur-manganese-fok-filter-1-5-cube
I have a dual water softener tanks 460tc filter and 460tc, I just cleaned the brine tank and I added new salt…. Was wondering if I need to push manual regeneration on both tanks?

Yes, after one finishes then do the second one.
What is the reason for the second backwash aftervthe brine draw? I have a twin system with a switching valve plumbed in. My installer set 4 regen cycles. 1) Backwash. 2) Brine draw. 3) Rinse. 4) Fill.

To make sure you get rid of ll of the brine. More important if you have well water with iron in it.
Hi , I have clack water softener with 2 resin tanks and salt tank. As you mention if it’s a twin clack , I’ll have 2nd wire plugged into the connector on board. I have only 1 wire, does it mean that I don’t have twin clack water softener but only have 2 tank connector together Thanks

Great question! Clack is a far superior product becasue they started with a clean sheet approach 20 years ago and since it is non proprietary you can actually get manuals, parts and advice just about anywhere. A typical Clack water softener like this waterestore.com/products/hum-deluxe-water-softener-30-000-grain is far less costly, will last longer and is much less costly to maintain.
I have a fuel tank system but it doesn’t have this wire. The program isn’t set up this way. Is this possible?

Sorry, don't understand the question.
brands new house with new system , i have two tanks. on big and one smaller. however , there’s nothing connected to the second tank spot, and I get an error 106 when i change the setting to the 1.0 T. so what is the second tank for ?

I don't know, maybe somebody cobbled something together that is now incompatible. I'd try to find out from the previous owner.
