Good luck with your speaking! When I moved to the USA, I joined Toastmasters to get better at public speaking. It has helped so much. In fact... Having that courage to speak publicly about difficult topics helped me prepare for coming out at work.. Going to my first trans support group.. Talking to HR.. Communication is important. Who'd've thought? :)

I love hearing from you about topics like this. I'm more likely to listen to you honestly suggesting not preaching, and instead speaking with people and listening and talking. Because my brain goes "ah well CJ gets it, they're not bull shitting you, you should listen to them"

I only ever spoke publicly at my friends wedding in front of a congregation of my friends family and the mormons that inhabited the church..I was terrified I hadnt done it since at school and then I was always scared. I do however enjoy youtube I can speak my mind without interruption and offer advice to others

For some people public speaking is not an option, period. Whether we want to or not, it's not going to happen. Being nervous doesn't quite cover the amount of anxiety just thinking about how my mind will go completely blank and I'll feel like I'm about to pass out or a predator is going to attack me right about now. Don't know how much of this is just because of voice dysphoria but I'll have to wait to find out... Writing is a far better form of communication for now.

CJ & Miles Yeah, it already has eased a lot so far, to a point where I can speak my mind at a small team meeting at work without staring down at the table with my heart pounding. There are even times I'm not nervous. That's the extent of progress made in the 10 or so years of actually trying to get better and exposing myself to situations like that. Pretty damn proud of that :) Playing an instrument was never as bad but speaking is, so maybe testosterone will help, who knows. Not holding my breath for ever talking at any length to a crowd about important topics though. That may take more than a lifetime. But if I were to, I'd sure speak on trans issues, that's for sure :) You're so right, only we can speak for ourselves.

I'd love to do some public speaking on trans topics. How does one start exactly?

Hi CJ, I don't follow twitter, but can you keep us posted about when and where the wow fest is. I am in Leeds, currently in St James' hospital for the last 8 and a half months, but I would really want to come out to support you and listen to what Yorkshire people and voices are saying re trans things,
