Thanks for sharing! I'm 81 and was with my parents when they bought our new 1946 CJ-2A and I'm still driving it in the summer and it is absolutely stock. We baby it and just drive it around Town. Best of luck to you!

I suppose so, but all the stuff you learn, trials and tribulations, late nights tired days busted knuckles teaches you alot of skills very much applicable to everyday problems. I can't decide if I'd love you to be my heart surgeon or dread it. Binging, benging? Watching a lot of your videos. also sharing sharing them. Waiting to see when you get to a tire thats messed up. I assume you'll retread it with a bunch of old bicycle tires.

I changed the bent today on my clutch for better adjustability and longevity. I welded a nut onto the hole that wore through on yours. The rod was replaced with a turnbuckle. I welded a bolt into the eye loop on the turnbuckle now the threads are the pivot. Nice and simple and the parts are readily available. When my clutch linkage first broke, I was two hours from home. I had to drive back with no clutch. Just kept starting it in gear and RPM shifting.

there are a few types of aftermarket locking hubs for the Dana 25 - 12 spline axle. Warn, Selectro Dulamatic, and similar. I believe the nut is part of one of those kits.

The nut is for a Warn Loc-O-Matic automatic hub. It has plastic clutch pads that ran against the OD of the nut.

Nice video. I've owned 7 flat fender Jeeps but only one 2A, an early '45 model with a column shift. Most, but not all, front axle hub conversions for Jeeps required the axle threads to be cut off. I've taken axles apart both ways and later on Jeep discontinued threaded axles so they were full floating. I've never taken a front axle apart with good king pin bearings, they either failed from water intrusion or the preload way to tight like your 2A. I wonder why the spare tire carrier is on the wrong side? Jeeps are a blast have fun!

Love your Garage and your Delivery. Easy to understand and we don't all have Mega-Bucks. I'm working on a 48 CJ2A right now so your little Red Jeep project is Perfect for me. All I did from stock is put Larger Brakes all Around because I towed a Boat 2miles Down Hill. Stock Brakes weren't enough. Keep it up. Do you have Hints for Bending Brake Lines?

Thanks! Yeah, the stock brakes are pretty marginal even without a trailer. The one trick to brake lines that I found to make things easier is to use the nickel-copper alloy line. Its hard for me to pay the premium for the more expensive material, but it bends and works way easier.

I have seen that nut before. my Cj2a had it on its front axle along with an international scout locking hub. the whole thing was pretty goofy when I ordered brake parts and the brakes were completely different. The best conclusion I came to was that they swapped though whole axle with a scouts front dana 25. They also swapped my rear axle with a dana 60 (I am not complaining about that). That's what conclusion I came to but idk haha.

I wasn't aware of a choice in material. Someone suggested packing the line with real fine Sand to prevent Kinking. I like the idea but worried about getting "all" the sand back out. Thanks for the show.

I've heard of that sand trick with roll cage size tubing, but I wouldn't try it with fluid lines. Hand held tubing benders are pretty cheap, they hold the walls of the tube in place so it can't flatten out and kink.

If you can, spend more on good tubing like E-Z Bend. That stuff is magical. Smaller diameter tubing is easier to work without collapsing even if it is steel. I tried bending a 3/8" steel tube for my friend's clutch and it collapsed immediately even with decent bending tools.

Most Dana 25 axils use shims only under the top cap only. Some older ones, below a certain serial number, you divide them evenly (as close as possible) top and bottom. I start with about .050" shims on top and none on the bottom. Tighten at least two bolts on each cap to 32 ft/lbs and test rotational drag. Then if too loose REMOVE 005" of shim, retighten and retest. If too tight add .005" shim and test. If you remove all of the shims and it is still loose (trail repair) you can add a "thin" washer (.025")between the bearing and the shoulder of the dowel pin on the cap and start over with the shimming. I would use another knuckle if possible if it were me.

Me and an old buddy of mine bought a 48 jeep willys that had highway tires on it. Wich was curious since its top speed was like 38mph wound completely out but anyway it was all original. The engine had never even been gone through or even the carburetor. We used to take it up on mt. Hood and purposely try to get it stuck or find somewhere it couldn't go but never were successful. Good times

If you are going to do jumps ,where the front wheels come the ground it is good to make frame fillers between the round cross frame peace to the place where the frame is boxed by the front bumper. This will prevent the frame from buckling. Card board cut out then plasma cut metal to fit simple weld and you have it. Old kickstart.

Thanks, I'm glad the videos helped! The tires are Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, 265/70R16. The only reason I picked them was that they were the cheapest tire I could find almost 10 years ago for my Suburban. When that got new tires, these old ones were passed down. That's a pretty common size, there's a lot of options out there.

I had one of those

So if you notice there's a noise like a fan blade lightly contacting or a bolt rubbing on a bell housing slightly. Best description I can offer? Oh I heard a distributor making that noise one time but it went away with new points or something like that..

I don't have brass hammer. I have new and a strong urethane hammer with its steel pipe and can still bash down hard to place the outer race to the wheel attach to the axle and CVJ housing. I don't have brass chisel. I use wood jaws to press fit the outer race Vise or Gantry portable small size press or C-clamp the outer race into the seated. A banging with brass hammer is like weak mind because press with screw thread of my MAC ball joint set C-Clamp with the handle is super stronger pressing than hammer hit.

I needed a break from my broken stuff. Is five lawn tractors enough? Of course not.

Its a generic aftermarket one, and some previous owner had welded it on. I don't recommend it, the smaller diameter makes the steering effort noticeably harder.

Watched a couple videos from a KZread channel called Red Eye Cafe Garage. The young man on that channel made his own canvas top and doors for his flat fender jeep and also installed a stand alone heater from a company called a Inferno Cab Heater. When you have a chance check out those videos I'm pretty sure that you will appreciate them.

Those axles ends had big balls in them they were loose.

I'm not sure who really makes them, there's a bunch of different sellers on ebay. Just search for "CJ-2A aluminum radiator" and a bunch will pop up at pretty much the same price. Probably the same manufacturer for all of them. I just checked, there's three different sellers listing them at $145. I've had good luck with the radiators, sometimes the caps have too high of a pressure.

The bar grip from Kubota tires service that way the bar grip is angled as it's able to dig the dirt away from both sides of tractor rear tire. Tractor tire will be 295mm width and R16 inch army Farm Bureau custom order for the sand dune buggy Jeep -2A and good traction type tire to keep it from hopping use air pressure down to 18 - 20 PSI requirement from Mickey Thompson expert tire specialist ASE of many different type of tire treads is the choice that you shall select the set of rubber 4 ply. Your tire is not a professional correct type for uphill all- terrain. My kind of mechanic, lol. I am a little fussier on brakes than you, cause if your brakes go you could kill someone else, not just myself, hah. If you are out in ranching country, look for leftover partial rolls of that high tensile fence wire at yard sales, it's stupid strong, compared to baleing wire, and who knows, you might need to hold an axle on with wire instead of just a muffler some day, hah.

You bought a new muffler from the wrong dealer. Your muffler for Quad CJ-2A have to be low profile for taller ground clearance prefer. The low profile muffler is not round circle on the end. It is elliptic so the wider muffler is along the horizontal line. The shorter height of the muffler is along the sample line vertical. You get almost 2 inch shorter from Midas. The elliptic muffler is shorter height than the round muffler so that is why old style Jeep muffler is obsolete and no longer popular.

Is there anything you can't fix ? Airplanes ?
