Civivi Little Fiend | New Knife Old Design

Big things come in small packages. Superb flipping action, tight lockup, fun to fidget with, and practical as a small EDC folder. The Civivi Little Friend is a solid offering from Civivi in the budget category, but it looks a lot like something we’ve seen before.

    It's the same knife. I feel like they caught some flack on the Shard's name (even Frankie and Bird said it sounded like shart) and people didn't like the handle colors and the bigger tab. Some people also said that the thumb ramp needed to be more usable. It looks like they essentially re-released it with improvements, including a new name since that was a complaint.

    Thanks for watching JP! Agreed, the Little Fiend is definitely an upgrade when comparing the handles and the blade grind. And you’re right, the RAT2 (or RAT1) still hold up. Even being older designs they’re still used as a standard. And I’ll be completely honest, I actually prefer AUS8 to D2.

    Every time I discover a new knife I like, White Mountain used to be the first place I checked. After doing this over the course of a couple of dozen knives, i have yet to find a single knife I was interested in, actually in stock. Got to the point that I just gave up the bother of checking WMK. Far more success with BladeHQ and Amazon.

    I recognized it immediately and made a comment to Civivi. They admitted the similarities. The difference in blades is that the Shard has a flat grind and Lil Fiend is hollow. 👍🏽🔪

    I really like the look of the blade but I’d like it if it were a little bigger. That thing just looks really cool. I’d hope that little hole doesn’t compromise the blade strength. I see that they’re really similar but I think the newer blade profile’s cut looks a lot cooler. It’s a small change but it’d make my decision easy if it were between the two. Thanks for the video, Sean! Catch you next time

    Are the scales killed out for the pocket clip to be on either side?

  • @WilliamMancel
    @WilliamMancel4 жыл бұрын

    Until I saw them side by side, I thought the scales were the only thing changed. The Civivi Shard was my first Civivi purchase. When they came out with the Little Fiend, I thought it was almost identical to the Shard. They should have just named it Shard 2. I have the same issue with new Civivi knives. They come out with a new model & are sold out quickly & take months for restocking. Meanwhile they release several more high demand models with the same running out of stock issue. I just last week got an Elementum in blue G10 like yours, and I've been wanting one since the initial release. It's great that they keep coming out with hits, but they really need to make up enough initial production stock to cover the demand. Civivi is my favorite budget brand, but my finances can't keep up with their constant new releases.

    The Little Fiend was my first Civivi knife purchased....Ive had it about 2 weeks also...I wasnt impressed with the action out of the box, although it has loosened up a bit....but my Ganzos, especially the FH41 is way smoother in action...I was wanting the Elementum, but they were sold out at the time so I settled for The Little Fiend...I doubt I will purchase another Civivi after experiencing this knife, especially when you can get Ganzos for one fourth the price with better quality and action out of the box...good review!

    Most likely to address issues with the flipper tab being rough and impeding on finger during grip. The new version flipper tab fades away from finger and smooth A larger eye as well … most likely a complaint they received.

  • @GearedTowardGear1

    @GearedTowardGear1

    That could very well be true, and would make sense. I just thought it was odd that they branded it as a new design. But I guess the definition of a “new” design can be subjective from person to person based on the significance of the changes made. When I took them both down and interchanged all the parts I was sort of shocked.

    Civivi knives are all starting to look the same. They need to bring in some designers like what Kershaw, CRKT, and Kizer Vanguard does. I know, they brought in Isham but meh. Also, I strongly agree with their stocking issues. I strongly feel it's intentional. I just find it silly that I'm having to race people to get to a budget knife. Also, you never seem to know when the second run of a model will be or even if there will be one. I wonder how large their production runs are. Wonder if they're maybe using relatively smaller runs that WE might use for their very expensive ~$250+ knives.

    I have the shard and love it. I understand the logic from a mass production standpoint to utilize existing parameters, but if you're going to introduce a "new' knife in that format at least use a different blade steel. Maybe VG-10 or even AUS 8 at that price point. Civivi has very good quality for the price point, but it seems a lazy offering with the fiend, not very attractive.

    Wow! I’m also a little surprised that it’s basically the same knife as the Shard! Seems a little lazy. I agree, just call it the Shard 2.0. Don’t act like it’s a new knife. 🙄 I do like the looks of this one better than the Shard though. I like the shape of the blade hole better, I’d prefer the new hollow grind, and I feel like the handle presents as a nicer knife than the cf inlay combined with the bright color on the Shard.

  • @GearedTowardGear1

    @GearedTowardGear1

  • @rickkerans8485
    @rickkerans84854 жыл бұрын

    It is a Shard with the hole in blade of the Shredder so it can be flicked opened. That was the biggest problem I heard with the Shard was the finger whole was not big enough to get your finger into in order to flick it. So they took the knife which did finger flick hole the best aka Shredder and put it on the little fiend. I don't see myself getting the knife. If I did I would probably see if the scales from the Shard would swap out. I think this is a perfect example of a company putting out products too quick. I hope that is the case otherwise they did a minor redesign of another knife that didn't sell as well as expected and reteleased it with a better flicking hole.

  • @GearedTowardGear1
