    I love the look and feel of this knife. I have really big hands so the size is perfect. The one inconsistent thing I have found with Civivi is the pocket clip. On my Tan Praxis, it has button screws, on my Damascus Praxis, it has flush screws, the same with the Damascus Incite. But I got the Damascus Asticus and it has button screws. BTW I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has done this, but I took the CF scales of the Damascus Asticus and switched it with the natural G-10 ones...and gifted the CF one... Looks a whole lot better. Would have loved a Titanium pocket clip on any of the Damascus version released. That would make them just a bit more special.

    To me, the slightly proud liners on the elementum make it look kind of classy. But the liners on the asticus are so proud that to me it makes it look like they put the wrong scales on the knife, and that ruins the aesthetics for me. Thanks for your thoughts on this one. Cheers.

    Hey David, thanks so much for watching! Yeah I agree, it’s definitely an aesthetic design choice, no practical or functional reason to do it. But as you said, on the Elementum it’s done minimally and tastefully to give it a nice look while remaining comfortable. I guess you can’t win them all, lol. Cheers! 🍻

    I like the blade shape and general profile but totally agree. I just don't get why they wouldn't cut the g-10 flush with the liners. Seems a no brainer. Personally would love to see the liners recessed but at the price point perhaps that's too much to ask.

    I’m with you 1000%! Nested liners would be great. Or at the very least have them stick out just a HAIR past the scales like on the Elementum.

    Nested! that's what I meant :) I'll keep waiting for the Odium. That's the one I really want. I spoke with Civivi and it looks like it's going to be a while til they're available.

    You are the only one so far that I have heard say the knife had a deal breaker. The name is pretty bad. I really like big knives and thus have no issue with under 4 ozs. That would be light for some of my regular carry knives. I like it every now and then when a reviewer actually does a reviewthat isn't all sunshine and rainbows. I would love to see a once a month review that was not hey this is the greatest thing I have had in my hand. So thank you on that.

    This looks like a pretty simple knife, I’m a fan. I like 3-4in blades so it’s right up my alley. I’m not super enthusiastic about flippers after an experience I mentioned a ways back. But this seems like it’ll have good retention. So not a deal breaker by any means. The action seems pretty clean but I don’t know if it qualifies for “buttery” haha. But still a nice opening, even when you slowed it down. I do wish there was more checkering or texturing in general on the grips. Again, a good simple blade. Thanks for the video, Sean!

    Great review sir! Appreciate it wasn't just a gushing review as tends to be the case of any new WE/Civivi that hits the market these days. I agree completely that Civivi is executing its knives extremely well from a function standpoint, design success varies however. Wish they'd push the prices more to the $45 end but maybe I'm just a cheapskate.

    Thanks man! Yeah they’re doing a good job in execution, I just wish they’d slow it down a hair with the new releases and maybe work with some known designers. It can start to feel like groundhogs day a bit, lol. I appreciate the comment, I try to keep it authentic.

    Hmmm. I just ordered the knife to go in the center console of my brand new 2020 4 runner. I ordered the exact coloration you review in this video. You have the 1st negative review which centers on lack of fit and feel to your hand/preferences. I wonder how I will feel about when I get it. It for sure appears to be very high quality for the price and I think it looks great. We will see how it feels when I actually receive it. I am excited to get it in and feel it for myself. Awesome review/video.

    Even if the liner was flush with the scales there would still be a gap that your “meat” would be squeezed into... so that point doesn’t make sense. Should there be some gimping? Sure but it’s a classy knife with smooth lines for a reason. You could tell the liners protruded past the scales from the pictures, why would you then buy the knife to bash it for that? I. Think the jade G-10 version is a perfect knife, the contours are beautiful and the action is phenomenal.

  • @GearedTowardGear1

    @GearedTowardGear1

    4 жыл бұрын

    Lol, yes I was aware that the liners protruded, and I bought the knife anyway because I wanted to try it out and see if I’d like it. That’s my prerogative. Had they protruded just slightly like on the Elementum I doubt I would have had an issue with it. The thickness of the liner and scales combined (when flush with one another) is much thicker than just the steel liners alone when they protrude like on this knife, so the point does make perfect sense. It’s called geometry - less surface area to support the thumb. If you consider my comments “bashing”, you’re either a bit too sensitive or you need to rewatch the video. I’m glad you like it, lots of people do - but I think it is far from a perfect knife and would personally choose dozens of others before I would choose to carry this.

    This doesn’t seem different or upgraded enough from their other offerings to move the needle for me and it has steep competition within its own brand for how it’s positioned price-wise.

  • @GearedTowardGear1

    @GearedTowardGear1

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I’d say that’s fair. I think most of what they put out doesn’t move the needle. The Rustic Gent did, bit only because it was a new style for them. A Damascus version of every model doesn’t excite me, lol. I think they need to force the needle to move and work with some known designers, maybe some new blade steel options, something. They do what they do very well, but what they do is starting to feel like groundhogs day.

  • @TripleEEDC

    @TripleEEDC

    Geared Toward Gear I completely agree. I never understood the fascination with Damascus budget models (whether from Civivi, Kershaw, or anywhere else). If I’m going budget, I want something comfortable and dependable. After that, anything else is gravy unless it skyrockets the price. Once the price skyrockets, I’m no longer interested in something budget since it’s no longer budget territory.
