Civil War Soldier Laid to Rest Over 110 Years After Death

Major Isaac C. Hart enlisted in the Union Army on April 16th, 1861. During the last year and a half of the war, Hart volunteered to serve with the U.S. Colored Troops 2nd Cavalry Regiment, an all-Black unit. A cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio, found an urn containing Hart’s cremated remains. The urn had been unclaimed since his death in 1913. In front of about 17 people, Major Hart was laid to rest among his fellow service members.

My cousin, a veteran himself, took over as the care taker of cemetery, found an entire shed full of veteran makers that where never placed. He also found remains in urns that hadn’t been claimed in 80 years. He got the remains buried and the markers on the veterans graves.

Right?! I was thinking that too. So his family abandoned his remains back then. But now the family is collecting the remains. Unless his family at the time didn't know he was left there. But sounds kinda odd. And if his family did know back then & just abandoned him. Because of the controversy around his service. And then now that it's acceptable... his family NOW has honored him & collected his remains. Almost like they just go with what's popular opinions at the times... in some ways.
