Civ 5 AI Only Timelapse: Islands of Fortune

Ойындар

39 civilizations, 13 islands, One winner. Conquer your island, expand your empire to others, become the strongest civ, yet you lost. Too many factors on this map can ruin any plans, but they also can give hope even when everything seems to fall apart. Indeed, Fortune is not always favorable, everyone who is spawned with Zulu on one island can confirm it, but when she turns to you, hit her right between the eyes and don't let go away, because every missed opportunity may be the last.

    I knew that Greece had a really good chance of winning this when they started their island hop. They even managed to survive losing Athens. Rome's game was essentially done when they fought the Greeks. It destroyed their entire military capacity. All Greece had to do after that was mop everybody up before they got into conflict with Korea, and they pulled it off perfectly.

    Wait a second, Greece was doing great but lose his capital. Then conquer a lot of city but got stopped by Rome, that did a nice job. Then all the world attack Rome and Alexander betrayed them all. Nice job Alexander, you are truly a nice guy. P.s: you should make a video in the earth map with all the civs and see what happens (don't know if others did this, but it should be really amazing)

    In 1965, the Romans were a proud civilization, having just crushed the mighty Greek Empire and boasting the largest and most powerful army in the world. An empire across 5 islands, controlling 3 whole islands, they were the foremost power in the world. 1976, Rome the capital city is conquered. 1980, the Roman Empire has been crushed into what is now mockingly called the Roman Corridor. They are a minor civilization, exiled from their homeland and forced to pay homage to their former slaves. (Kudos for the Greeks, they were down many times, but they were never out!)

    Wow. By turn 300, I was entirely prepared to congratulate Rome, showing that the first civ to unite their home island would win the game, using Greece as an example of what happened to those civs who were unable to unite theirs. I wasn't expecting this comeback, and it can only be attributed to Alexander's sheer tenacity. Nike!

    I noticed something as that war happened: it appeared to me as if Rome's military was completely decimated by the conflict with Greece, while the Greek army was still formidable. I knew then that it was Alexander's game to lose, and he crushed all of his opponents when he got the chance.

    Although Greece won, let's not forget some highlights of other civs. Rome was once the largest empire, but then buckled under a Korean, Carthaginian, Indian and Arab coalition. The Zulus have conquered a respectable empire, but eventually lost to the Greeks. Korea was just great, being arguably Greece's main rival in this entire game. India and Arabia build considerable, albeit short-lived, late-game empires. Carthage, although small for the entire game, fought valiantly against all opponents, though it inevitably fell in the end. Mongolia and America just continued fighting on their island for a long time. Austria, Russia and Venice were pretty powerful in the early game, but, eventually, Ausria lost a city to Greece, eventually being gobbled up by it, Venice was partitioned between Indonesia and Russia, while Russia was partitioned between Arabia and the Zulus. And Indonesia? Indonesia had its best Civ AI Domination Match ever, taking a city from Venice and two from Arabia before being betrayed by the ever-expanding Greeks.

    This is an excellent Civ 5 AI experiment, but you’d produce very valuable results if you ran this Ai vs Ai game at least 10 times with same start locations and same map each time. Then write down final scores for each victory and who were the victors. You could get actually helpful stats a bit which civ is winning more often and with what score. Of course the more Civs in the simulation the more simulations you’d have to run to get statistically significant average results.

  • @AeonQuasar

    @AeonQuasar

    I think this was more a luck result for Greece. There are many factors that would change the outcome. I don't think you see a true outcome with only 10 matches. You need to touch the 100 at least for that to have any significantly meaning. 10 games would have resulted in 9-10 different winners.

    I feel like you're missing the point of these videos. This isn't about finding out which Civs are statistically superior. This is entertainment. I have no doubt that AiBattle runs every map several times. Else there would be no chance that the battles were always so equal (Civ 5 has a bad habit of producing one Ai that slowly trumps the rest with little difficulty) Watching the same battle 10 times, however, is the opposite of fun. No one would be watching this channel, perhaps with the exception of you, if it were only rehashes of the same map and civilizations.
