CITYTV BRANDING (SEPTEMBER, 1997) 💥💥💥

A look at Citytv's look in September of 1997. Lots of internet talk!
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Please add to this evolving history, if you know more information pertaining to the clips, fondly remember them or have a modern thought all comments are welcome! I still remember touring the Citytv building with my friends from college several years back when our school made the trek to Toronto to attend a college music festival. Was very cool to check out the inner workings of the station in its heyday. To this day, I still have some of the buttons, stickers and a T-shirt from the tour. It's cool seeing the old promos and videos from City on here. Keep up the good work!

You know, I pass by Queen & John every now and then when I’m visiting TO. On one hand, it bums me out to think how much life was in that building when Citytv was in her prime. On the other, it’s with vids like this that bring me back to being a kid and watching too much TV without a care in the world, and I get to see them over and over for the memories thanks to you. 🙂 👍 I just wish I was old enough to go on Electric Circus and Speaker’s Corner but c’est la vie. 😄 Thanks again!

No kidding. Gord Martineau was one of best local television news anchors in North America by tenure along with Chuck Scarborough, Dave Ward, Jean Emerson, Dennis Richmond, Irv Weinstein and many others. Those days are long gone but local television stations have increased the hours of local news coverage over the years to increase viewership.

@@terrenceblackwell4467 Yeah, Gord was great alongside Anne. I won’t lie, the one I really miss is Mark Dailey. His sly comments were so witty and fun. It’s good to see that local news coverage has increased. Local news is critical for a democratic society. How can you be well informed on your community if you don’t know what’s going on in your community? I’d argue that anything regarding municipal matters means far more to Canadian citizens than provincial/territorial and federal. They’re also important, don’t get me wrong! But municipal calls a few more personal shots to citizens than those, at least in my opinion. 🙂

299 Queen Street West is being described as the little combined television station and radio station that could since May 1987. And it’s currently a home base for CP24 which currently owned by Bell Media; poster boy media company which owns CTV. As for CityTV which currently owned by Rogers have went east to Yonge-Dundas Square which is their home base since September 2009. Got to love these memories so it doesn’t fade away.
