City serves notice to woman for living "off the grid"

It was just a matter of time before the City of Cape Coral caught up with her. We first told you about Robin Speronis last month... and her alternative lifestyle, called Living Off the Grid. She lives without running water or electricity -- by choice.
But her off-the-grid home is now on the radar of Cape Coral code enforcement.

She had no right to flush her toilet without paying her water bill ... which the majority cost is for sewerage. Especially in Florida where water is plentiful , but hills for sewerage to run down are not. Now if she would have been keeping here waste in little jars in the basement . That's a different story of course ... LOL

I would think it is on the city to prove she is not abiding by the code and would need to prove that to a court before slapping up any kind of legal notice. I wonder what court authorized the City of Cape Coral to take this action?

While the city may force you to connect to utilities, they can't force you to use them.

oh I don't know , maybe also the fact that the guy that "supposedly" sold her the house also filed a police report for fraud saying he never sold it to her that they were forged documents.

Ewhelden The local paper in Lee county is the Newspress. on Jan 14th 2014 they published an article. The original owner (last name Mayo) was interviewed. www.news-press.com/story/news/2014/01/18/power-struggle-woman-city-at-odds-for-living-off-the-grid/4809231/ look about 1/2 way down in the article for Mayo's comments. If you google this woman's name you'll also find that she was a convicted felon for stealing tens of thousands of down payments on houses from people on multiple occasions. So again , is this the person that everyone should be rushing to defend? If she's a friend of yours or a relative then I apologize for the stress the situation is causing you. The original owner is also saying she trashed the place, sold his A/C units and she recently had a dog removed from the house for neglect. But before you tell me I'm full of S@#$ you probably should have researched it first.

people should be allowed to live how they choose, and if someone desires to live off grid that is up to them.... but If a developer buys a parcel of land , subdivides it, and then puts conditions on the property people that purchase these properties must accept these conditions. their rights are "subject to" whatever covenants and restrictions run with the land. For example. If there was a restriction against horses that ran with the deed. if someone really wanted horses they should not buy one of the properties and expect to be able to have one. there are some people that will specifically buy in places that have restrictions so the city enforcing restrictions is protecting other owners rights. the rules were made in 1970 that the city would have all lots hook up to city utilities when available. If someone wanted to live off grid this is not the place for it. any property owner is subject to this ordinance. they are 1/4 acre city lots with a current population of 160k+ it is expected to have a population of 400k. someone can hook up to utilities and not use them, so rain barrels or solar, or batteries etc are all acceptable. The reason why she is not hooked up is for unpaid bills.

because the court gave her time to comply , once that time has expired then it goes back to court.

LOL ya ... she was stealing sewerage service. Maybe the city should have estimated her waste water expulsion. Then delivered a big tank of shitty water on her front lawn.
