...where is the music when you dump the pieces on the floor?
I was surprised that this wasn't a revival of the old City of Thieves "Fighting Fantasy" gamebook by Ian Livingstone/Steve Jackson. Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Deathtrap Dungon each had a boardgames, so imagine my surprise that a different game had one of FF's signature titles.
I think the stats are there because in expansions there will be guys with different stats, as seen in the mercenaries in the King of Ashes expansion. Actually the news about that expansion was what got me interested in this game again, because it looks like it will add a lot more depth!
wish it was availiable in the UK.
1:28 You wish that they were painet? What the hell does "painet" mean?
the deadliest catch has an awesome theme song
I'm 31 and I love this game. Its fun, I love the theme, Its a great game to start a night of gaming.
The first time I saw this game and when I watched the official Fantasy Flight video about it, I thought this looked like an awesome game and I was ready to buy it... but after reading a couple reviews and watching this, this game looks like it's a whole lot of icing and not a lot of cake... in other words, a very basic and simplistic game wrapped in a LOT of eye candy and nice components...
I am assuming that all the characters have the same stats because they already have expansions in mind.
Perhaps why the stats are all the same is due to the potential of an Expansion Pack to add more specialised thieves.
Since Tom says the game seems more geared towards a younger audience, I was wondering if anyone had a good experience playing this game with adults who are newer to board games. Thoughts?
@theoracle42 I played Tannhauser and I totally agree with you.... at the same time, Tom always have the right to his own opinions.
Bought this game and I am not a teenager lol. This is a lot of fun. Me and the wifey play it a lot!
truly the best flavour and artwork a board game has ever had.
@Azden392 That's what I thought too.
If it was i would have got and got a copy, city of thieves is so cool, 64
Wow! Good to see that people aren't taking Tom's assessment of the target group of this game to heart. Those words were viscous"the lack of game-play left me feeling flat but I think that it will appeal to teenagers", is a little below the belt isn't it. So you like it and you're not a teen. Good for you. Have your fun but don't expect too many of your peers to be riveted by this game.
looks good!
@Kjokia If you arnt into the Dust Theme....Tannhauser is better
Love this game
@someknave I found it hilarious.
As a person with mild OCD when it comes to organising things, the scene at the beginning where you just throw the pieces onto the table causes me considerable distress.
I think Tom is absolutely right. A bit of an airhead game. Looks fantastic, had GREAT potential, but the mechanics and lack of diversity really make it kinda lame. Good review, Tom!
It's a fun simple game. It's not deep. If you want deep, you'll want to play warrior knights or twilight imperium.
This game rules.
Everyone having the same stats probably leaves another expansion route.
Thumbs up If you think Tom needs to IRON OUT his green screen next time!
panet
Still not convinced this game is worth it.
I hated this game. The play is too simplistic & the strategy weak. The game feels unfinished. The art is excellent, but the mechanics leave much to be desired.
This game is nowhere near the "level" of Tannhauser. I have both and Tannhauser requires much more thought and offers MUCH more strategically.... than CoT. sorry Tom but you're way off the mark here. Tann's characters are all different and have different abilities not to mention different weapon loadouts, whereas CoT combat is basically roll 2 dice and the higher one wins. Both games are good but both are very different and appeal to different moods.
Remake of "Dungeon." Possibly done better, "Dungeon" was close to unplayable, it was so arbitrary.
